Good to see you back for the speed run challenge! My kit should be here at the end of the week so I can get to building. It is one I don't yet! Looking forward to seeing what you end up doing with it!
Thanks Addam! I hope you like the chassis. I have only spent a week with it but it's growing on me. The modularity of the chassis lets you run a pretty large variety of bodies and I think it gives the TT-02 a run for its money. What body do you think you will run?
Thanks, They do have limits on what you can stuff into them. Though there is a speed gear set and you should be able to squeeze a 28t pinion in there with the help of a Dremel. I am considering a custom gearbox (in open class) to help alleviate the issue. Someone has already done a mid-motor rear end which is interesting, but I might have a different take on it.
Ive not even got the chassis yet, and your pulling runs 😮 i’ll be getting on board once ive got these vintage races out the way this month, and still not decided if i go brushed or brushless 🤔
The nice thing about this year is you have a month to work with the car before you have to decide. I'm looking forward to binging on all the MF-01X videos from everyone. Good luck with the challenge this year!
Hi Brice and cool to see you in the SRC this year. I enjoyed the shakedown runs and hearing your thoughts about this chassis and what needs to be done to get this thing going faster! I really hope you can get your MF01X running straight and true, and of course at maximum velocity! Good luck pal! 😎💪👍
Thanks Mark! The SRC has been the highlight of my year for the past couple of years. I wouldn't miss it. Stay tuned for my next video highlighting my first week with this platform. I hope the information provided is useful to getting contestants going faster. I think I have worked out the straight and true upto 80 kph, after that, it's anybody's guess. Good luck to you and Rob as well. Cheers!
Just going back to see where you started with this. Yeah it's not a chassis that wants to go fast as it is. That body shell is far too nice to get beaten up in high speed crashes. Should be another fun contest 😁👍
Yeah, it'll be fun! I also just ordered a kit a couple hours ago, I'll be doing brushed, not too fast... Yeah, about the wheelbase, there should be an additional bit in the kit that is something like 20mm, so you should be able to achieve right wheelbase... Unless you threw it away, ha ha! And the propshaft should be easy to make a longer version, too... I'm looking forward to see some more of you stuff, buddy!
Thanks! given it's been four years, and I have a different mindset about hoarding parts now, I don't have it. But the parts tree is less than $10, so no biggie. Given the last couple of days of tinkering, I'll be going open class. I have some crazy ideas for converting to a mid-motor but it might be too much....I'm looking forward to seeing your build. The car is quit fun once you fix the steering and suspension (that's probably true for all cars...).
@@jack-o-trades I went with the Golf II GTI Rally with long wheelbase and high clearance. I might change the body but likely to stay in brushed group. The Contact wheel/tires arrived today.
Indeed! it'a pretty easy when the car is just sitting on the shelf collecting dust. It's been nice putting it to use. Though, I think I might be in the market for a new body.
Thanks! that mean a lot. It's been kind of a slow first half of the year on my end but I do look forward to the PBRC SRC each year! Getting to see all the new people and the great camaraderie!
Go for it! Plenty of time for the contest, and it’s not too hard to get the chassis dialed in. I’ve been making good progress with small changes. Some oil shock, glue up the servo saver and that’s a huge stability improvement.
Good luck to you as well! Given the somewhat standard platform, It would be interesting to see how some bodies perform over others. I believe the chassis kit can also be configured for 239mm so you can run TT-02 bodies.
We are starting with the beetle as well. I am undecided on brushless or open as well. I am leaning towards the brushless to keep myself on a leash. I will try to go fast with the beetle body and if that fails I have the Tamiya Senna body I used last year. Good luck! I know you will make that car scream!
Thanks! Given your background, you should definitely go open. It will be interesting to see who joins the party. Last year with the TT-02's it was crazy! Hopefully this year is a little more tame.
Thanks! I'm sorry to hear you won't be joining in this year, you'll be missed, but it's cool. Thanks for tuning in, hopefully we can pull some cool designs out of our hat for this chassis.
Looks like with those tires it should grip better and put power down easier and a suspension will help. I got the same one as yours but I’ll be in brush class. I’m Excited for my first year. Good luck to you. ✌️
Hey Luke! Awesome to have you as part of the challenge. Tires, shocks, and servo arm made a huge improvement. With that, you should be able to focus on speed unto probably 50 mph. Given the right brushed motor, I think that's attainable. Do you have any thoughts as to what brushed motor you're thinking about. I think there are tons of vintage brushed motors that are way hotter than anything in current production. I could be wrong...
Thanks for the tip. I ended up putting on an aftermarket servo horn and made a dual ball stud adapter. a little convoluted but it looks trick and does the part.
Right on.... I agree with preserving that body!
Thanks, I think I might be eating my words shortly. The body is growing on me and getting a bug to go fast would be awesome.
Racing time ❤
Soon, gotta wait a couple more weeks before we can start throwing down some real numbers.
Can’t wait to start my build! Good luck to all that join us this year! Gonna be lots of fun! Go Brice!!🤜🤛
Good luck to you too. Nice to see you too at the challenge 👍
Thanks! Agreed; good luck to all the contestants! Which build are your doing? It will be cool to see what people come up with!
Great to see that you join in too . Let’s have a lot of fun and good results. Good luck for the challenge 🤩👋
Thank You. Same to you!
Welcome to the fun. Good luck for the challenge Brice. 🤜🤛
Thank You! Will you be joining us this year?
@@jack-o-trades For sure. I had to order everything and now I'm waiting for the parts. So my videos'll be released in the middle of August.
Brice is back!!! Look out, speed-runners, this guy is a missle!!!
LOL Thanks! it is nice to get over some of those early hurdles faster. Gives more time to think about the big hurdles coming up.

@@jack-o-trades I am sure I will lengthen it out and run a touring car body on it, probably whatever I can find cheap!
Nice first run. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
Hey Joe! Good to hear from you! You going to run this year?
@@rcprescription I think I will. I just got some stuff worked out.
@@JoevsRcawesome brother! Been missing your runs! Hope all is ok with you brother and look forward to seeing you back out there!🤜🤛
@@rcprescription Thanks! I got a lot of catching up to watch with your videos!
@@JoevsRc lol…hope you don’t get to bored!😂
Looks like we have our work cut out for us making it go straight!
With a couple of changes (servo horn, shocks, and wheel) you can quickly get a stable platform that is just begging to go faster!
Nice beetle for the run, Tamiya are limited on gearing.

Mine should be delivered in a few days. Super excited this will be my second tamiya kit
Awesome! Let us know if you have any questions. Lots of capable friendly people in this bunch, more than willing to help.

Nice Beetle 😊 With all what you can build, this is going to be epic if you go Open Class 😮 🚀🤝
Thanks for the vote of confidence. I hope I can deliver. I'm off to a good start but there is still much to learn with this platform.

Glue the servo saver parts, it removes the slop.
Once I did that and added oil shocks the chassis was great to drive.

Try the TL01 high speed gear
Noted. Thanks!
The car is geared sooo low. Need that 20t pinion to do something. A few of us are building the same platform for this internet showdown!
Agreed on all accounts. I'm looking forward to seeing what others come up with.
