This was a very sad day. This event was memorialized by Crosby, Still, and Nash in "Ohio". Life Magazine published a photo of a coed putting a flower in a rifle. Later, she was one of the 4 dead
I remember this day so well. My Senior year in High School. My School canceled classes and held a Memorial Service for them. This was the day I decided I would NEVER, EVER give my life or a second of MY time to a Country that would do this. Started saving to go to Canada...still in the States. Wish I had gone to Canada...now that I see it is going on again, here, in America. I am totally against giving any money or arms to Israel and may the Palestinians finally get their own Country!!
I’m right there with you! My parents didn’t believe in war. My mom taught us well. We do not kill, we do not go to war. I remember my mom being so worried that 2 of my brothers would be drafted. It was then she decided if we needed to, we would move to Canada. To this day I’m sorry we didn’t. I have children and grandchildren of my own now. I could never leave them but I hate watching them grow up in this country. ☮️
My grandfather was a guardsmen during the protest. He ended up taking a rock to the head, rendering him unconscious, and was never the same after that. He fell into a alcoholic slump that he's never recovered from. Its just crazy to think that if he hadn't been knocked out, he could've been one of the guardsmen to fire at the protestors. Don't get me wrong, the shootings were not remotely justified, though I find it strange that this was never mentioned when considering if the guardsmen were in any danger.
This video does subtly mention the rock throwers, right before the guards opened fire. But getting hit by a rock is a lot different than being 18 years old and being forved to go to war and die a horrible death in a jungle in an unwinnable war, for no good reason, and knowing mass civilian casualties were inevitable. The guards were violating their right to assemble and they were on the wrong side. I'm sure they felt they had no choice and were following orders. That's why it's so ironic that they were carrying out orders to kill these civilians who were simply refusing to go overseas and carry out orders to kill civilians. Still it sucks that people threw rocks. Even though the guards were armed and well-armored, that should not have happened and did not help matters.
@@Somegirl811 the crazy part is no order was ever given to fire on the protested the soldiers did it themselves out of fear/panic with one soldier problem panicking and shooting which caused the rest to panic believing that an order was given or they were under grevious attack. It sad how one man’s horrible mistake can get 4 people killed
The shooting lasted 13 seconds. The Students took 3 seconds to turn and run. That means that the “guard” fired into their backs for 10 seconds. That my friend is MURDER.
students have always been like sitting ducks for soldiers
I am a college graduate, and a veteran. Don’t assume the worst about us. We are human beings like you. ☮️

This country must have a revolution.

Thank ken state 🙏🏼 ❤❤❤ for you humanity
Calling it a massacre is kinda exaggerated especially when they provoked the action they received then act shocked and like a victim when it happened
2 of the students who were killed were not even involved with the protests
Accountability is hard for Stidents to understand

No, it's self defense
