      Hermit crabs are very good climbers, in nature they climb trees and often spend the night perched on some small branch, if they do not find a crack in the rocks, You can see one of my videos about hermit crabs in Costa Rica. Regards.

    Do those suction cups hold up the vines ever fail? Excellent work, people may criticize and say it’s too much, but sometimes people need to remember that it’s for the frogs, not the people. Thick plants are excellent for the frogs.

    Once it's set up how much mainetance do you have to do and what could you doo to make it even more maintenance free, I can afford to automate lights, heaters, humidifiers... I want it for a venomous snake that doesn't like to be disturbed so I can't just stick my hand in there all the time unless I take it out and that could be hard depending on where it's hiding. Also, what lights do you use?

    • @LaNaturalezaEscondida
      @LaNaturalezaEscondida  7 років тому +1

      Everything is automatic except the feeding of the frogs that live in the interior. For lights look at specifications in the explanations of the video.

      @@LaNaturalezaEscondida Sorry to hear that. I can imagine how difficult it is to maintain such a complex biotope over time.
      Maybe give another try and add some plants little by little. You will find yourself to have to replace them on a regular basis anyways (apart from maintaining the existing ones of course). Don't forget the fauna (worms, small insects, etc... it helps A LOT with the soil ! ). I tried that on a smaller scale (landscaping an aquarium tank). I had big hopes but soon realized that those beautiful shots we see on the net are mostly photo's taken when everything has meticulously been made ready, at the very moment of the photo session just for the sake of it and shortly after, those landscapers disassemble their creations and start everything over from the start for a next session... cold shower moment for me. You know what they say about the journey and the destination ;-) I think it's true, especially when it's about creating something living and beautiful, just like you did. It made me smile again. Don't give up.

    • @LaNaturalezaEscondida
      @LaNaturalezaEscondida  5 років тому

      @@RenoLaringo Thanks for your comments and your advice. My problem was not being able to devote the time and care that such a biotope needs, besides having overloaded a lot of plants in the terrarium, but it served at least so that a large number of small frogs could breed. Greetings.

    What kind of maintenance would a vivarium like this require? Its gorgeous!! Well done! Is its relatively self sustaining?

    • @LaNaturalezaEscondida
      @LaNaturalezaEscondida  8 років тому

      To be honest, the only maintenance is to keep the rain system active and turning on and off lights, everything is automatic, moreover, is the habitat of a group of frogs dendrobates, they get dirty everything. The activity and feeding of these small animals, are slowly causing deterioration.

    Nice set up, dude. I'm planning something similar in an Exo Terra X-Large/Tall tank too, with a slightly bigger water feature.
    What's your long term experience with that kind of background in a moist enviroment? Doesn't the cork and wood integrated into the background absorb moisture and expand or rod over time, which would damage the background?!

      The light I used here was not enough, it takes more light, but the dendrobates frogs that inhabit it, do not need so much light.

      A paludarium or naturalistic terrarium of this size, must be built on the site, it is virtually impossible send and in both cases the cost will be high.

    Can you do an update?

    • @LaNaturalezaEscondida
      @LaNaturalezaEscondida  7 років тому

      Yes, why not? But this can be a little disappointing, since I have dedicated the paludarium from the first moment to keep and breed poison dart frogs and stain and destroy a lot. Maintaining a large number of small frogs inside is incompatible with a well maintained vivarium.

      Yea, some of your plants looked very delicate. Btw, amazing job.

      Francisco José Tébar Salas beautiful viv!
      Curious as to why your plants died off?.
      Also wondering if you could have saved your background from peeling off the glass if you would have siliconed egg crate first, then foamed everything to that?
      How did you plants die?
