    What a handsome knife you created. Even though it takes cues from a modern minamilist design aesthetic, it would not have looked out of place on the frontier many years ago. I just discovered your channel and am excited to explore your videos and learn more about you and your work. Three hundred years from now people will still cherish and appreciate your blade, a timeless piece. Great work, you nailed it, congratulations!

      Thanks! You would probably like it. Do it sometime when you can schedule a shop visit with some of the central AR makers and you would be bound to have a good time.

    Very cool and congrats, your knife is definitely in great company between Jim Crowell and Kevin Cashen! I really wish you showed some more of the blades there. I'd simply go myself, but I'm up in the Puget Sound 👎 lol. I'm gonna have to go look up that tanto under your blade that Kevin made, looks like there's a lot of neat things going on there. Great vid!

      yeah understandable, by the way, I'm just getting started in knife making, and I hope to some day make master smith in the ABS, do you have any pointers for me while I'm starting now? I want to try to find an ABS school back in the Philadelphia area if possible.

    • @AllenNewberry
      @AllenNewberry 5 років тому

      There are a couple of ABS schools in the eastern US. Take a look at www.americanbladesmith.com/ and click on the schools link at the top of the page for a list of schools.

    Does the clip point on the end of a Bowie serve any purpose or is it merely cosmetic

    • @AllenNewberry
      @AllenNewberry 5 років тому

      It can lighten the knife as well as make it stabbier and slicier. It can also allow the back side to cut and looks good as well.

    Congratulations on getting one of your knifes in there and imo on Bowie no.1 I don't think it matters much if it was actually the Bowie that Jim Bowie used what matters is the symbolism behind the knife and what it stands for

    those larger longer thicker heavier bowies, i wouldn't want to have to defend myself with one of those i would rather have something 8-9 inches maybe an inch and a half wide a small in front tapering up handle plain wood nothing spectacular. i mean if you're gonna use it for making someone or something bleed why would you buy a 600. dollar knife with sterling and ivory inlays just to permanently stain the materials? i have a world war 2 parang from luzon island in the philipenes that is 9 inches long has that exact tapering handle made of horn and brass and it might barely weigh a pound and a half. also whoever used to own it scratched the name jim bowie into the handle. i have had it bought from a pawn shop here in new england since february of this year and don't plan on getting rid of it unless what the guy at filipino weapons and martial arts.com told me was correct and might be a lot older than world war 2. i told him about the name scratched into it he said i should have the name checked

    Its pronounced Booey not Bowey! You included a picture of the great Jim Bowie, a Texas hero and one of the greatest founding fathers of Texas. I dont understand how lnife people from other states can mispronunce a huge historical figures name so often. Its disrespectful and I guarantee it doesnt happen in Texas. We learn that name early in school. Anyways, great video and content otherwise. I just wish people could get that right because its really annoying that people assume its named after a musician.
