I adore how these episodes are just, like, they decided what they were going to do a week ago and then they turned up and then they decide, off each other, how things are going to go and they bounce of each others experience. They were obviously such good friends. There's such a feeling of love and compassion between them. When things seem dark in the world - just come and watch a couple of these shows and it will re-establish your views on humanity. She is also, always the one who will turn to camera and explain to US what is going on. Jacques is usually just off doing what the cooking requires. At this point Julia was the better educator.
In a more recent interview with Jacques Pépin, he said that this series wasn’t too far from your description. Very little preparation. He knew generally what they were going to make, but no idea who was doing what or how. Fly by the seat of your pants.
I’ve watched quite a bit of Jacques on his own videos. He’s intensely practical. Here, he’s following her lead. You can see how he grins sometimes because he disagrees with what Julia has said-but he goes with it! Great tv right there.
@@AngelusBrady I mean pepin is the better chef here Julia was always very stubborn and a little close minded. Love how their personalities play off each other here though a fun watch
@@cyberspacearchives7402 Him being better doesn't make her bad. Her being stubborn and closed minded from time to time also doesn't make her bad. She's far better than non trained cooks like Rachel Ray and Nigella Lawson and I like Nigella Lawson. Also stndrds79 is an incredibly disrespectful and arrogant poster who constantly makes rude comments about Jacques, Julia, and Lidia Bastianich.
@@AngelusBrady Exactly. I never attached a judgement to it like "bad". I am probably more stubborn than she is just based on my reaction to her saying no anchioves in a ceasar salad (an insane opinion to me lol). She isn't a terrible chef especially for the time she grew up in and learned from. Using a barely cooked egg white for her caesar salad was definitely very weird to me, but was the original way it was done. Pepin was a little more open minded learning towards the newer way of doing caesar with the anchioves and extra garlic. Just a fun observation. And I love her personality its fun and very relaxing I find. It is very interesting looking at the recipes they share due to them being fairly dated in respect to todays standards. I love history though. Again there are no judgements to it! The past was a very different time that you can't really judge in comparison to now. I mean just look at Julia's colorful remark at 3:13 which even Pepin made a O.O face about XD
Many years ago, GQ magazine had an article about allegedly authentic Caesar Salad. It stated that the leaves of Romaine lettuce were left whole, and each were loaded with an anchovy, a piece of raw garlic, and a crouton and folded, like a taco. Apparently that's not authentic, but if you love garlic and anchovy as much as I do it transformative. One night my wife and I ate it that way and we both got high from all the garlic. (We were not drinking alcohol or smoking weed.) LOL
So find Jacques very pleasant, polite, and accommodating - I find her annoyingly standoffish - and can I honestly and frankly say - I was never impressed with her cooking. 😬
Yikes.. so. I kinda agree. I'm sure she was a good chef, and certainly a pioneer in the industry. No question. But... he's jacques pepin. I always kind of thought he was just being nice to her when he complimented her cooking but imagined in private..,in his mind he was like (in his French accent) "ouff.... "
The way you spell Tijuana is funny but it's actually phonetically correct - good job! I grew up in SoCal and we'd call it "T.J." We'd go there for firecrackers and other contraband.

Julia Child breathing heavily and Jacques Pépin wearing a toga. It doesn't get better than this.
