Happy to see Blue Reflection 2 on the list! Definitely one of my favorite games that Gust has made!
I went into Blue Reflection series expecting to just have a decent fan service JRPG experience.
But it ended up blowing my expectations away, love the combat, and Second Light's creepy/mysterious atmosphere is just amazing.
I enjoyed the series so much, i ended up caving in and bought the physical copy of the first game... all i'm gonna say is, it was overpriced cause of scalpers lol, but i had no other way of getting it.
@@domfabio8850 yeah it's torture trying to get a physical copy of the first Blue Reflection.
Bluereflection 2 is very first Gust game i played, i was freaking in love with the theme and color, I mean it's so bright, shinny and what is it, idk the right word to describe how it feels playing it, it's just so relaxing to play. The map that filled with water one feels so great to run around really like its atmosphere. The combat is so satisfying, will definitely go back to play it again after i clear BR1 and Sophie 1
I can't get enough of the Blue Reflection 2 atmosphere too.
Especially during the first parts of the game, where everything feels so mysterious and unsettling.
The music is such a nice vibe in both games too. but Second Light i felt was especially beautiful and a huge improvement in every way.
Your timing of this is so perfect Erik, was just thinking of picking up the Atelier games. I also funnily just learned of Mana Khemia recently, and love the sprite work of the game, considering playing the PSP game.
I'd definitely recommend the Ryza games! Im playing the second one right now and the third one comes out in a few months and it looks even better
@@mcm426 Ooo Nice, yeah I was thinking of grabbing Ryza. What platform you playing on? Was thinking about getting the switch version if the performance is good.
@@ianp5367 For the first one it basically runs the same on switch and ps5 but the second one has a ps5 version so it has a stable 60fps framerate and higher resolution
I enjoyed the Mana Khemia games on the PS2 more then the mainline Atelier games on the PS3.
Also Blue Reflection Second Light is also a great game and is in my opinion very much improved from the first.
The ar tonelico games are great I've not played the first it's just too expensive really hope one day we get a remastered collection 🤞
Also if i remember correctly the PAL version of the first game was quite buggy so it was definitely not worth it other than for collection purposes.
Just sell it with the OST collection for easy money. Might as well making it a glorified album with how amazing the music it has trapped in obscurity
Amo tus videos, apenas voy empezando a jugar Atelier Iris 2 y está genial, cuanto tiempo perdido de mi vida jeje!
Mana Khemia is actually a timeless masterpiece. In contrary to what you said, i LOVED the concept of the grow tree and how it makes me excited every chapter on which equipment/items i could make and the new skills i can obtain. Started playing it 13 years ago and i still play it from time to time til now. I hope they’ll make a ps5 remake or a sequel for the first to games rather than the atelier games 🥹🥹
Love the videos Erick, appreciate it!
Thank god some of these games are included in the Playstation Plus upper tiers. I happen to love the Atelier games and 4 of those titles are in the subscription service along with Knights of Azure 1 and 2...great games and awesome time sinkers!
I was hoping you would mention Blue Reflection! I played the first one a few years ago randomly because the cover art sucked me in. And the moment the title screen came up... beautiful. The music, the visuals, the absolute chill yet melancholic vibe. I was blown away.
It only cost £20 when I bought it and it kinda saddens me to hear what it costs now, stopping people from enjoying it😔. Honestly, pick it up on a sale if you can cuz it's well worth it
Is it a yuri(lesbian) game just like Nights of Azure? No offense to those who likes it but that genre just not my cup of tea… but I kinda liked the artstyle
@@ikoukuhn its not a yuri game. It doesn't even have any vague yuri themes. Basically imagine your basic slice of life anime girls but dealing with things like passions, life, bullying, teenager stuff + the magical girl twist. There isn't even any fanservice either. Just chill vibes tbh
Nights of Azure 2 Is such a hidden gem imo 👌🏼
It's a good game I did enjoy it my only annoyance with the game is the exploration time (which I found very annoying).
Erick doesn't like lewdness !!!
Yuki likes lewwwdnes.
I don't play too many GUST games but I am familiar with the Atelier series since I started with Ryza, Blue Reflection series (my first GUST game), and Night of Azure series.
I watch every video you put out good work ma
Thank you Eric , you da man ! ❤️
I like a lot of their recent games like Atelier Mysterious series, Ryza and Blue Reflection. Have to go back and check out some of their older titles.
The iris trilogy sell for ~40-50 each on Amazon right now. I don’t know how accurate that is but that’s about what I’m finding them for when I can find them in stores.
Haven’t tried any of the Atelier series, let alone Ryza ones, but will be preordering Ryza 3 when able to do so.
Tried the original Night of Azure (though it was in Japanese) on the Vita, then Night of Azure 2 on the Switch. Traded the second one for credits at GameStop.
Haven’t tried either Blue Reflection games, the couldn’t try the first one since didn’t right system to play it on. Might try the second one on the Switch.
With Ryza you actually rewarded for taking the time to craft and learn all the mixes. You can get op after the first 30 minutes if you put in the effort. The other games you usually got to wait until later because strict roadblocks and nothing really shows up. Ryza makes me want to craft while they others I just want to craft to progress the story and that’s it.
The item rebuild mode brakes the game 😂 it’s a really helpful mode
The soundtrack for this game is godly!
Me gusta mucho Ryza 1, su combate y su sistema de crear cosas, me está gustando mucho ya casi lo termino
Oh, I titally agree with your number 1 pick - an oldie, but such a goodie.
Loved this RPGS, Just hope i have more time to play
Question if you get alot of gust games in one place do you get a hurricane?
So atelier iris 2 and ar tonelico melody of elemia were your first gust rpgs. Did you dual fist them?
I only played atelier Ryza. I liked the game in general but the crafting focus of atelier games was too much for me and I couldn’t even finish it after 30 hours of gameplay. That’s a shame I can’t get into this rpg series as it focuses too much on crafting that I don’t enjoy. However it is still objectively a really good game 👍🏻
yeah, i can understand this. Hence why Atelier is unique but also unaccessible somewhat.
Cool Waldo tee!
Surprised no to see Escha & Logy on that list! So Shallie would be better huh? Interesting. Thank you as usual :)
yeah Escha & Logy was friggin' awesome xD
hope we get ar tonelico trulogy for switch remastered :3 have such great ost
Yes! And mana khemia!
GUST: everyone's third or fourth favorite.
Last more like it haha
My ranking looks like this
1. Nihon Falcom
2. Squaresoft
3. Atlus
(2 and 3 can just interchange)
Everything else
The only game I'd be able to try is the Mana Khamea game for PSP, because it's the only one I can emulate with my emulator on my Android phone. 😊
''I never played the Ar Teneliko series because my understanding is there is very little English Voice acting, but the music in Ar Teneliko 2 was absolutely amazing. I still think about it sometimes. Might not be A Neir quality OST, but it's really great in its own way.
Is your patron thing only a subscription? Does it have a one time donation feature. I really like the content, and would like to help out from time to time.
One day will be have the remaster of Ar Tolenico? The 1 was the best in mho, haven't got the chance to play the ones on vita
Agreed with number 1, kinda surprised with some picks though.
I never realized Ar Tonelico were Gust games. I have Knell of Ar Ciel but I was so young when I got it, I didn't speak English that well yet and couldn't understand what I had to do. Maybe I'll hook up my Ps3 again. 🧐
Funny enough, Atelier Iris 2 was also the first Gust game I played and it’s what got me hooked on JRPGs.
I haven't played the 2nd Blue Reflection game. I want to though, but I use to own the 1st one and the best way I could describe it is Persona mixed with Atelier...kinda.
PS plus has some of these including knights of azure for free on the library
I have ar nosurge but I couldn’t figure out the battle system so I dropped it. Still have it tho. Maybe I’ll try it again.
Blue Reflection 1 is on Steam if you didn't find it elsewhere
I hope that all ar tonelico and mana khemia games would be playable on ps4/ps5
Very nice 👍
I feel so lucky to have the Ar No surge Limited edition on ps3. Best part is I got it for free in near mint condition
I actually just played Ulrika through Mana Khemia 2. I had a hard time caring about the story. But as you said, the music is great, synthesis is great, and the skill tree is less annoying to navigate. I couldn't bring myself to play the other paths.
Are the Atelier-games for the PS3 just not good? I was considering at least buying Rorona plus.
Glad I picked up the Nights of Azure games when they were 20-30 bucks.
i have most of these games i think there is one or 2 i dont have but i am an older game player so i played these when came out lol and loved them so much and my youngest child she loves the the atelier series hence all the new ones are ares but we sghre them lol even though i bought them all the atelier ones i share them with my youngest daughter i have the ps1 and 2 and 3 and 4 ones never bothered with ps5 as dont have it lol and the mana kemia 1 and 2 loved them i loved that one i so wanted that air tonoko but just couldnt get it i have knites of azure 1 and 2 blue reflection 1 and getting 2 soon
All the games look awesome I in joy it
Gust and Atlus are the goats for me man. Especially PS2 era
One of PS4s most underrated gems is Gusts Fairy Tail jrpg, I loved it! Its a masterclass in quality of life mechanics. I actually played it before watching any of the anime.
I agree! 🤣😅
Played that on my Switch....loved it.
Gust? Should do the 10 best kemco RPGs...
buddy blue reflection 1 is out on ps 4 not so expensive digitally ^^
Im waiting for star ocean but right now im playing Tales of Arise 😁
the sexual innuendos in Ar Tonelico are both hilarious and embarrassing. Loved the first game but didnt finish the second one.
Erick continues to be cultured.
That hat is hard!
Thicc thighs save the world. Ryza rules.
Yes same like me, Atelier Iris 2 is probably the best Gust games out there
I played Ryza with Mana Khemia and Iris music.
I would like a GOOD official English voice acting to "Blue reflectors" games.
Iris 2 is pretty much the perfect "B" game.
I'd play it through pretty much every year back when my PS2 worked better.
It's just pleasant.
Sure it could be improved in lots of areas, but it's a rare game that has nothing that really bothers me.
I played Atelier Iris in sequential order and I also find Iris2 to be the best one. Iris1 is your bread and butter jrpg game with hint of Atelier and synthesis, while I feel like Iris2 strike the best balance between typical jrpg element and the Atelier feel split between 2 protagonists. Iris3 is the most Atelier game out of the 3 and the combat actually feels nice and streamlined, but the story didn't feel as fun as Iris2.
But best Gust game imo is Ar tonelico 2, hands down.
I haven't actually played a gust game before. They honestly didn't look that appealing especially Atelier. Blue Reflection 2 looks really fun and relaxing so I might play that when it is on sale again. Ars Nosurge looks cool, but I don't have a ps3 or a powerful enough pc to emulate it :(
My favorite gust games are Atelier Totori and Atelier Escha and Logy. I might end up liking Blue reflection 2 more but until my eyesight gets fixed it'll have to wait. The menus are too glaring for my eyes making them hard to read. The battle system in Escha and Logy is my favorite.
Yea, I keep trying these Atelier games, but none of them seem to be as good as Escha and Logy.
Ruenheid (Nights of Azure 2) = Eula (Genshin Impact)
first time I saw Rue i thought it was Eula. she's also a greatsword user.
I agree that gust made some really good games and yet they're hard but I still enjoyed them
i loved the fairy tail rpg.
Tbh...I'm not a fan of the Atelier games. I love collecting stuff for the alchemy cauldron, but tbh and no hate, but the time limit pissed me off in the one game of the series I played at least. But great list nonetheless, good sir
Gust is life.
Mana Khemia 2 is way better to me than the 1st one and one of the funniest games I've ever played! 🤣🤣 It's actually my 2nd favorite PS2 game! It's that good!
Still waiting for mana khemia 3
Someday bro...someday 😞
Been a long time. Lol
No Salburg in the list?!
I know i'm probably the only one who wil say this, but I still prefer the original Blue Reflection to this day.
I know, there's no proper levelling but I just liked it more: the story is more entertaining, revolving a bunch of girls that you kinda grow to know them, and the music is FANTASTIC and one of my favorite to this day (OVERDOSE is one of my favorite battle themes ever). The sequel was kind of disappointing to me, cause most of the characters felt very bland and I didn't like the combat system.
And the ending is very bittersweet and I love it so much.
I miss Ar Tonelico. I wish at least Ar Nosurge DX got localized... I used to just think of Atelier games as filler until the next Ar Tonelico, lol.
One thing that Erick forgot to emphasize is how almost all Gust games have incredible soundtracks. Gust Sound Team are really on a level of their own. Ken Nakagawa especially is incredible and easily one of the most talented and at the same time most underrated Japanese composers.
OOOOOOHHHHHHH
gust is my favorite dev (i just hate KT for shitting on exa_pico), a top 10 would be also hard to decide, finished nearly every english game (and ciel nosurge, tho no rpg).
1. Ar Tonelico 2
2. Ar nosurge
3. Ar Tonelico
4. Ar Tonelico 3
5. Atelier Iris 1/2 (cant decide)
6. Atelier Ayesha
7. Atelier Shallie
8. Mana Khemia
9. Nights of Azure 2
10. Blue Reflection 2
boring ranking, but love exa_pico too much, and a few games have similarities so i put them together. must admit Nights of Azure 1 is probably my least liked gust game (still liked it, but not as much as the other games)
Finally, someone else who sees how amazing the Ar Tonelico series is! I also believe that Ar Tonelico 2 is the best game they ever made
@@shadowlink180 yea sadly way too underrated imo, the lore and worldbuilding is well-crafted and unique, its so interessting to read into it.. from the con-langs, the settings (towers / huge fn spaceship), even the science behind it. wish gust/kt would make a new game with more budget like ryza for example, it has so much potential :/
Hey
Watched the video and was saying that I got that game for each game.
However I stopped playing their games since the PS2 Era IE Mana Khemia 2 was the last game I played.
I've never played ANY of the Atelier games before I don't dislike the game I just never tried it (don't hate me for it). Atelier Ryza 1&2 (and various editions) is currently on the switch at 50% off. My question is: is it worth the £25?
Yes
If you like endless crafting to move along in the games then you will love them if you don't enjoy that kind of thing don't bother you will be bored in 10 minutes
@@stuartpace6111 when you say "endless crafting" how would the crafting compare to dragon quest builders franchise? I understand it's NOT the same game or type of game.
I don't really mind crafting been doing that in Ff8 (collecting material for weapons upgrades), TOCS (collecting seph) and DQB (collecting random sh*t( 🤣
@@hongluong3427 well for starters, crafting in Atelier is very different with crafting in other works (this is especially true with later works in Atelier series). while in most games, crafting is just a side feature to convert materials into items with very little to no variation, in Atelier series, not only it is the main feature, it also allows player to add variations of traits even within the same item.
just as I said above, Atelier allows player to make same items with a lot of variations (example in case of medicine: better recovery rate, heal status ailments, etc.). what allows this to happen is: same materials can have different qualities, transferable traits, etc. also player can use the alchemist's skill to alter the end result to their liking.
just additional point. unlike other RPG where your best items/equipment are/is rare drop(s) from monster NPC, in Atelier series your best items/equipment are/is almost always the one(s) you create yourself
Thank you both Christian & Stuart for your insight on this game. tbh I've been looking to check the game out for quite some time (a very long time), I'll check out atelier Ryza 1 👍
Gust has been a studio that has consistently gotten better with their games. Every game feels a bit different from each other and brings something to the table that tastes just as good as the catalog before or after it offered. They are just a writing team away from making perfect games imo. The storytelling has always been a weak point, but despite that, they produce great games, which shows the level of quality they put in.
Ah yes, back then when gust and nis still made actual good games
Nights of Azure is also in Vita, but you know....ONLY IN JAPAN!
The best is Ar Nosurge
I'm suprised of seeing Blue reflection Second Light so high. It's a good dating sim/moe game with cute girls and fanservice(and a great ost), but everything else is kinda bland. The game has a huge problem of lacking in variety, after the fifth dungeon you'll only find "recolored" enemies and every normal encounter feel too samey, also the dungeons are just going from point A to point B while grabbing material orbs.It feel like the devs only had budget for half game.
Gust games look amazing. How they are not more popular in the West is beyond me. They look a cut above the rest.
Not gonna lie I think gust is one of my least favorite jrpg developers
You didn’t like fairytale?
@@KramerJones nope. You did?
Non of any gust game is consider “good” lmao
did not regret buying atelier ryza and the reason i got into atelier games, finished 7 atelier games so far inlcuding ryza 2,can't wait for ryza 3 :)
Great set off rpgs here, I have to say Gust have done alot of terrible rpgs aswell.
They did Neptunia???
@@soratheorangejuicemascot5809 crap my mistake compule heart and IF, I seriously thought they did due similar animation. Lol
There is a character called gust in that series.
@@riyuphoenix4533 Gust character is representative of this company. I also don't like IF/compile hearts for having Sting and Cave in their game.
@@soratheorangejuicemascot5809 Yeah I'm very surprised they have had no backlash for any kind of copyright infringement. They literally has a character called tekken that's a genderswap Jin Kazama. Its a shame because its a game a wish was done so much better, sure there is probably worse out there, but there is also hundreds that are better.
First
Do you complain in all of your videos or do you act like this to try to connect with the Wokies?
Woke? No way Eric is woke when he refused collab with a gay man that also does RPG videos. That's just his way of speaking and usually with lots of profanity.
@@damasake I just hear him complain a lot. Though with the way everything is nowadays, I guess the people that complain about everything will rub off on some people.
Is it just me, or this guy talks about the same games, even when he tries to "switch it up"???
No mention of Atelier Elie, Lilie, Judie, Viorate, Hresvelgr, Ciel no Surge
Mentions of Shitza, Shitllie.
Top invalid. Go redo.
Just one thing I don't agree with. You absolutely CANNOT start with Ar Nosurge. It is a DIRECT sequel to Ciel Nosurge. Unfortunately, like he said Ciel Nosurge never got an English release and the fan translation never finished so there is VERY few ways to actually experience the story. There would be no issues playing the prequels before Ar Tonelico imo but without Ciel Nosurge you can't really play Ar Nosurge. Every single character in Ar Nosurge (and there are about 10 important recurring characters) are from Ciel Nosurge and..... they go through some shit. The creators themselves even said that they made Ar Nosurge with the intention of making it available to play on its own but like 90% of the problems in it and the character interactions are continuations of things that were happening in Ciel Nosurge. You can follow Erick's advice if you want but I personally don't recommend it.
If it interests you enough, play the Ar Tonelico series in release order, then try and find some comprehensive synopsis of Ciel Nosurge (which will be a bit easier to understand with the knowledge of the rules and language of this world from Ar Tonelico even though there is no inherent connection between the two series they are just in the same universe), then play Ar Nosurge last.
Also, there most likely won't be anything in this series in the future so it kinda might have a feeling of it being unfinished if you actually get to the end. Just a word of warning that some people might not get the payoff they are expecting from a 5 game series depending on their experience. However, I say that but Gust just released DX versions of the Nosurge games like a year ago (Only in Japan ofc) so they haven't forgotten about the series at the very least. There is still hope there but not much as they are very focused on Atelier right now with Ryza 3 coming out basically right after Sophie 2.
