    I know, I know, some grand seiko enthusiasts may be a bit disappointed in my feedback on the watch. BUT we all have different backgrounds that give us different perceptions on what we think is quality, or value. To me, being a blue collar worker, literally money is more than time at work, when I get home from work and I’m physically sore and filthy and I put my best effort forward to do quality workmanship I expect to trade my money from quality workmanship to buy things of high quality workmanship. I simply didn’t feel I got that with this watch. You don’t have to agree, you can trade your time at work for money and spend it on whatever you like, I’m doing the same and unfortunately a Grand Seiko didn’t meet my expectations.

      It cannot be isolated issue because there too many issues. He listed bracelet we all know as substandard for this price range and basically on the level of a 300$ watch. So all that lose bracelet stuff I believe to be true and I do owe a few grand Seiko so I can confirm that. Bad bad bad cheap bracelets and not elegant at all. The off center thing could be and same with lose pushers. That's what happens when all is hand made and slips quality control. The machine made Rolex or cheap mass produced watches will not have this "human errors" caused when all is hand made.

    Thank you for this video. May I know how did GS respond to your disappointment? Any update?

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  9 місяців тому

      So, someday I’m going to post an update video but for now I’ll try to put it here in the comments. I returned the watch to the dealer to send it in for “service” the understanding was at minimum to replace the bracelet and inspect the loose pushers. The watch departed to go back to Grand Seiko and was in their hands for a bit and came back. The existing bracelet was “repaired” and the whole watch was sent back. So I inspected the returned watch and there was what appeared to be clamp marks on the bracelet. Yes I received paperwork documenting the repair too. So I expressed my displeasure with this being the level of standard for this watch with my dealer and asked for a refund. They said they would need to look into that. So I left that day with the watch quite unhappy. I contacted grand Seiko via the BBB. Grand Seiko/Seiko responded saying that they didn’t really understand the issues I had with the watch and confirmed they repaired the bracelet. However before Seiko replied to my issues my dealer called me and told me to bring it back for a refund. So, essentially it ruined the relationship with my Rolex AD, but I’m happy I’m out from this watch. What a pile. I ended up getting an omega from an omega boutique and everything from the bracelet to the general quality of the rest of the components has been over the top! Very close to the quality of my submariner. Some people have commented if I didn’t notice the clunky bracelet, yes I noticed that when I picked it up, but you expect that, that’s notable in forums and stuff, but I didn’t expect a messed up clasp out of the box, and most people don’t wiggle the crown and pushers in the store, I never thought a loose crown and pushers was a thing. So there it is, the update in a nut shell. For as expensive as it was there are design things you can overlook like the pinned bracelet, but things that just aren’t precise, or made poorly is not cool. I hope you get the watch of your dreams! Thanks for watching.

    I've purchased 5 Grand Seikos and had nothing but great experiences with them. That a GS could be *this* poorly constructed is baffling to me. If I were in your shoes, this would be an instant return.

  • @SubQuark
    @SubQuark 7 місяців тому +2

    I certainly understand why you don't like the watch. The uneven gap near the clasp is clearly a defect, and not something that should have been there. But it should be possible to fix. The wiggly pushers don't look good at all. This is a deal breaker that made me lose interest in this particular watch. Thanks for pointing this out. Otherwise I could have bought this and been very disappointed.
    I don't mind the wiggly crown, since it does not wiggle when screwed in. As for the bracelet and clasp overall, it is certainly not as impressive looking as for example a Rolex of Omega bracelet. But while my Planet Ocean bracelet is not very comfortable, my Grand Seiko bracelets are supremely comfortable on the wrist. What they lack in heft, they make up for in finishing. The polishing and brushing on the links is way beyond what Omega does. And the edges are very smooth, hence to comfort in wearing the GS bracelets.
    A tip: If you want to see a Grand Seiko bracelet than is more impressive looking, check out one of the Evolution 9 models without the diving style clasp, for example White Birch (SLGA001 or SLGH005). The non-diving clasps feel more solid on all GS models that have them, and the Evolution 9 models have a much thicker bracelet.

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  7 місяців тому

      Thank you for your comment. Is the non diving style clasp adjustable on the fly? That’s the reason for my like of that clasp, I was spoiled by my on the fly adjustable bracelet on the submariner. I work as a maintenance technician and daily wear my watch so in summer on hot days my wrist tends to grow a bit, so I need to expand the bracelet just a little bit for comfort.

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  6 місяців тому

      Honestly, I thought about the zenith chronomaster but I repair equipment for a living and so I was worried about the unprotected ceramic bezel, I’ve already broken the pip off my submariner by smacking it on unforgiving surfaces but I think I haven’t chipped the ceramic because on the sub it has that small trim of steel around the bezel, those ceramic bezels are crippling expensive, fortunately the pip was under $200 to be installed by Rolex. I also considered the chromomaster but the bracelet didn’t have the on the fly adjustability. In a lot of environments it’s quite hot and my wrists swell a little bit and if the watch gets too tight I like that I can just make my sub a little bigger and put it back on, I’d be worried with a chronomaster that it would get tight and I’d take it off, set it somewhere and lose it, or worse drop it from a scaffold or something. They are beautiful watches, but I love my submariner. The AD took the Seiko back and when I was in there I held a chronomaster and checked it out but I decided to just hang on to my money before buy another watch.

    I have owned several rolexes, a Breitling, a Hublot and a few others over the years. I currently have my collection pruned down to one Rolex gold/steel sub with blue dial I have had for about 10 years. I also have 3 pateks, a ulysses nardin white gold diver and a stainless audemar royal oak offshore. I thought I was done with new watches but recently purchased a grand seiko chronograph 253. I had been intrigued by the spring drive since I first learned about it. Obviously, I own some very nice watches. Overall, the Pateks are probably the nicest watches I have ever owned. However, this New Grand Seiko has surprised me with what a cool watch it is. As far as time keeping, after wearing it for close to a month, it was off by just a few seconds. I am used to wearing a larger watch since I have owned a number of sports watches, divers and chronographs so I found the watch very comfortable-the titanium is so light, I forget I have it on. It also is a very nice looking watch. The watch isn’t cheap but is definitely cheaper than my other watches and I find I am wearing it more than the others by far. I have to say that I zero regrets buying the GS-it has been a welcome addition to my collection

      Thank you, yes I’m sure it was a genuine GS, I’ll make an update to this video at a later date in time BUT the AD had sent it in for repairs and GS “repaired” the bracelet, meaning the clamped it in something and bent it until the weird gap was visually gone and sent the watch back. They didn’t replace anything 😄 I even wrote GS thru the BBB and GS admitted they only repaired the bracelet. I can’t recommend GS to anyone as for returning the watch the dealer did take it back after I was dissatisfied with the repairs. I would have been happy if grand seiko send my AD a replacement bracelet and they just replaced it on the fly at the AD.

    Great review! Yes, I love my Grand Seikos and other Seikos. However, I've never really seen them as competitors to Rolex. Both brands make fantastic watches, but there's a reason why Rolex is often considered the King. It's absurd that so many people have missed what you showed. The bracelet has been criticized by others as well but your attention to detail shows where the problem is in the alignment of the holes. But no one has noticed the crowns? Can other grand seiko owners check for this movement and tell us if it's in all of them because right now I believe that's the crappy way they're made unless someone can show me differently. What a shame that the spring drive is cased in a flawed housing. This really changes my mind about real quality and attention to detail.

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  Рік тому +1

      I agree, they really have an innovative movement, the visual aesthetic is great, the lightweight of the titanium was nice but the actual details and tolerances and stuff of the watch was really disappointing especially for the price. The watch wasn’t made of any precious metals like gold or platinum or anything like that. Titanium is unique BUT it’s not terribly expensive. So the bulk of the price of the watch should be in the overall build quality. It just wasn’t there. They need to fix the clasp and make it a quality substantial clasp, make a screw together bracelet, and tighten up their tolerancing on the crown and pushers and the watch would be 100%. I recently got an omega seamaster and the sliding clasp on the bracelet is amazing. I don’t understand why grand seiko put that crappy stamped thin metal clasp on this expensive of a watch. Why can’t they do a machined clasp like omega? Even the crown on my omega is super nice and tight when unscrewed with no movement to it and my omega was less than half the price of this. Even my omega has a nice screw together bracelet, it doesn’t pinch between the links either. I really REALLY wanted to love grand seiko, I wanted a grand seiko before I got my rolex. I saved hardcore to buy this watch, I met my hero 😅 I was let down.
