LOVE this episode! Great timing with a fun mystery / monster of the week. And The Doctor and Rogue.... you could feel the chemistry from space. I am so looking forward to the Doctor finding Rogue again! Honestly (agreeing with the majority here) these two are the best romance followed closely by River and the Doctor. The trap explanation seems simple enough. It could hold 5, he became the 6th so was able to push Ruby out. Also, they did not invent 'cushy', that's a common UK word.
Oh dear word, the anti-woke people are going to LOSE THEIR MINDS over this episode. As soon as I saw the kiss, forget it. I bet some story will come out tomorrow or Sunday that the BBC got "tons" (like, 12 right?) complaints of that kiss scene specifically. Oh, and the Doctor crying again, so woke am I right guys? I mean come on already. Sorry, just venting, I guess. I get frustrated knowing it's obviously coming and hey, RTD did tell everyone to get used to it LOL :) And oh boy that teaser for next week, here it comes.
To be fair, the doctor shouldnt have any type of romantic interest. The worst thing new who did was increasingly bring that to his character. Rose and Eccleston werent too bad until the end, tennant was a bit insufferable in that aspect. Matt smith and capaldis at least threw an alien/timelord spin on it. With this though he just comes across as a human character and its a tad bland. Never a fan of what RTD portrayed the doctor as. He has the companions for that aspect, i rather see the doctor whos been ther, done all that and is now thousands of years old and has other things to do.
@@charg1nmalaz0r51 I understand that reasoning, but we are talking about a thousand of years old alien time traveler who's been married, has a kid...or two, and like hundreds of super close friends (that he never visits beyond anniversary specials lol) etc. etc. There's nothing to stop him from falling in love or having some sort of romantic thing with a guest character or companion. All that being said, Tennant's Doctor was a bit over the top with it at times. Rose, I can get and I rather enjoyed it especially considering Doomsday etc. Martha was fine, in so much that she loved the Doctor and it wasn't remotely reciprocated (or even acknowledged until Martha left as a regular companion) and after that, it's mostly ok as you said. Matt Smith and Capaldi were mostly just....the Doctor (other than the rando River Song stuff) and I barely watched Witaker's Doctor (not because it sucked but I just stopped watching lol)
It was poorly written nonsense. The aliens were awful and I found Groff’s performance kind of flat. To be honest, there is no such thing as anti-woke. Just people who view diversity as a way to cover up bad storytelling, a lack of originality and disliked being bossed around by a minority. RTD said Dr. Who is not for kids in November last year. It’s now a vehicle for all of his wet dreams. I can’t vibe with this Doctor. He is too camp, too human and not really believable for me as a Time Lord. We all have our own favorites and Ncuti Gatwa’s portrayal isn’t what I want in the character. It’s fine that others like it and enjoy it but it’s got nothing to do with his skin colour or sexuality.
Definitely felt like a New Jack Harkness, and I don't know how I feel about that. But overall, I liked this episode. I assume they just pissed off so many conservative viewers -- at least the ones who aren't too busy thinking that a Black Doctor means no white people can watch the show anymore -- but... nothing of value is lost in that 😂 Was this my favorite episode of the season? No. But I liked it. Maybe I'd like it more if I cared about Bridgerton or the Victorian era at all 😅One of these days, the Doctor is going to have to truly grieve over everyone he's lost. I don't think he ever *really* did. So many people have been complaining, this whole season, that "the Doctor is supposed to be asexual!" Like... I assume they started watching Nu Who when it hit Disney+, and before that stopped watching before 2005. Because the Doctor has had romantic feelings for multiple companions and secondary characters since 2005. It's not new; the only new part is that it's a male Doctor being attracted to men, and NOW these people complain. I wonder why NOW they do, when they haven't in the last 19 years? (He asked, fully knowing the answer...)
Madame de Pompadour, Astrid Peth, Rose Tyler, River Song, Joan Redfern. Hell, he even has a Granddaughter, so there was a partner of some kind before. Saying he is A-sexual is just their own security blanket to protect themselves from The Doctors' true sexuality. Which is more than likey Pansexual. Because The Doctor loves all.
Thank you for the reaction. Disney made a mess of season and episode numbers, though. First the soft reboot by calling it Season 1. Then listing the Christmas special as the 1st episode. Now we have people who call this episode S(eries)14E06, S(eries)14E07, S(eason)01E06 or S(eason)1E07. What a mess.
Among all the Doctor's heads was Richard E Grant, who appeared as the embodiment of The Great Intelligence in two Matt Smith episodes. But why? Does this make Scream of the Shalka canon?
So I didn’t think he was going to be a Captain Jack recast however watching this episode, He could be a younger Jack, before he had his memories stolen by the time agency. So a prequel to meeting 9th Doctor is my guess!
Omg you should have seen my face when i saw jonathan groff. I've never sat up so fast, haha. Also ive never watched bridgerton i am planning on watching it but for some reason some shows that are that popular (and i used to get made fun of for liking period dramas aka jane austen) i'm never really keen on watching but also when i see stuff like this episode or bridgerton i always think oooh like jane austens novels lol
I've seen people complaining the kiss is "unnecessary" when it has actual plot function and pay off for the episode meanwhile this show has been full of unnecessary kisses since the revival so I'm sure you'll get over it... Unless of course there's something else about this one that bothers you 🤔
This was the first really proper episode of the era that I liked. Come S2, RTD should not write 99% of the season. At least when Chibnall did it in S13, all the episodes were really good, I don’t care what anyone else says. Congrats! Great episode and great reaction
THANKS for this!!!! "The Phantom Zone!" Yes, Vanessa! Why didn't *I* think of that??? "I will keep her safe." As River (and speaking of her, damn, Fifteen, aren't you *married?* ) said, "Rule One...." :) Again, RTD does not care about what anyone says anymore. An important position for a free artist to take! So I guess we now know what Ncuti will do before he regenerates...

Am I the only one that got 1985 Prince or Morris Day vibes from The Doctor's look and vibe in this episode? The Chemistry was off.the.chain. I'm not in the LGBTQ community, but I absolutely Loved this episode. Very "classic" Doctor Who type episode but with modern adjustments. For all those who might complain about him enamored with a guy, did you have an issue with Rose? With the Woman in the Fireplace? The woman when the Doctor's psyche was kept in the pocket watch when he battled with The Family? How about that he has a Granddaughter dating all the way back to the First Doctor? If you didn't have issues with them, then your issue is that it's a guy, and as we've seen The Doctor is non-binary and can regenerate into male, female, or something undefined. Rogue is like the Jack Harkness for this Doctor, at least in terms of "vibes," and I hope that he returns. Wouldn't mind seeing him as a Companion or perhaps The Companion for Ncuti's final season for example. Very interesting character. The "bad guys" are ok, but beyond this one episode I'm not sure if we need to see them again. But yeah, this episode is a 10/10 from me.
Generally I prefer the doctor not being interested in romance (especially with their companion like rose) but this was a really good episode and it’s fun to watch so I don’t mind it
I hope that he isn’t dead they will find him, but it will be either a new doctor or a new episode, but I hope they just don’t forget him and leave him as dead in this episode. I hope he does return and he and the other one go on adventures together. Like ruby
Never a fan of the Doctor having a love life -- not Rose; not River -- but this was still a great episode. Rogue was a fun character. I'd even enjoy a Rogue spinoff. Chuldur were cool.
Picture the same episode but with Rogue as female. What would the Doctor's actions look like? Wrong, right? This is just NOT Doctor behavior. Since when does the Doctor get all flirty with ANYONE, especially once a danger has been identified? And then, when you consider that Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor does NOT kiss Yaz after so much time spent with her, yet Ncuti’s Doctor kisses Rogue after knowing him for about 20 minutes, there’s a shift in the Doctor’s mindset that is not likeable. Not that it's gay -- but that it's selfish and out of character. He cares more about his own fun than saving others -- and that is NOT a trait any Doctor ought to be having.
@@river8659 ooh that's an interesting concept/idea. My mind kinda went to someone who Jack lost/who lost Jack (cause we know from Ianto that Jack might be a flirt but he can love deeply too). Either way, I hope he gets revisited.
@@writeonshell My brain immediately went to yes, he lost his brother and his family (Torchwood I think the episode was "Adam"). It feels like a very RTD thing to do after all this time to finally tell us about Jack's missing years and a way to bring him back without messing up the past. I'm sure I'm wrong but I love the idea.
I'm so over the shock that 2 men are kissing on tv. who cares? why does it even matter anymore? 2 people whose characters were obviously very attracted to each other kissed. why all the backlash that it's woke? I'm just over it & anyone upset by it. Also did they never see Jack Harkness in this show before? did they not see Glee? Jonathan Groff was on that show more than a decade ago. geez ppl really need to just get over it already. Great catch Vanessa, with the Billie Eilish song. I don't watch Bridgerton and thought I was losing my mind when I heard it. Then when I heard Lady Gaga song later in episode, I was like oh now I'm sure that was Bad Guy. Is it bad I wanted Rogue to push the button and send Ruby away so they could go on adventures together and find her? Not sure why Doctor was like I don't even know Rogue's name. He should be snooping thru everything on his ship! has to be all kinds of info about him on it, instead of hiding it behind the moon. I'm sure we'll see Rogue again, hopefully not a few doctors from now either, cause the chemistry was amazing. I think some of the attraction was between Jonathan & Ncuti could be real, they apparently went to see Beyonce concert together with a couple of friends.
I can’t do it anymore. They have destroyed The Doctor. This season has been an absolute disaster. Just finished “Rogue”. Spoiler alert! The Doctor has gone from charming, brilliant, resourceful and compassionate to randy, selfish and hypersexual. I don’t care if The Doctor is male or female, it doesn’t matter what color The Doctor is, and The Doctor’s complex and ambiguous sexual orientation has been danced around before but with much more grace and subtlety. What we have now is nothing but a flamboyant, horny space traveler who’s just trolling to hook up. Never before have I seen The Doctor so desperately pursue an individual trying to entice them to become his companion simply because “they’re hot.” The Doctor has become far too shallow and far too focused on his own sexual desires. There’s been so much emphasis on how they’ve changed the nature of The Doctor that they’ve lost touch with everything that WAS The Doctor. I’m saddened, even disgusted, that the overemphasis on DEI has led to grossly stereotypical portrayals of gay men as greedy, oversexed fops who will flaunt their sexuality just to make a scene and I can’t escape the feeling that the writers and show runners and just rubbing our noses in the fact that “The Doctor is now a horny, black, gay man!” without just letting him be. I cannot overstate my disappointment.
Dialogue was putting me off like crazy and the chulders themselves are pretty forgettable. Plus rogue’s character is very whatever… I don’t like when the doctor gets into relationships (really don’t like 10 and rose imo so overrated) and so I do not buy for one moment that this dude he’s just met has suddenly “changed his life forever” which is what Russel had been saying about the character. Didn’t feel anything bout his sacrifice like “oh no this is so sad” or “thank god he’s gone” I was just like “okay…” this season for me just has a problem of having characters I’m meant to care about, like Mundy in boom, Lindy in D&B (before the ending reveal), and now Rogue. Also I can tolerate some silliness and camp, like the goblins from the Christmas special, but this episode felt like they were being too serious with the whole cosplaying alien bird stuff. Chulders are gonna be very forgettable for me. There were some cool moments, but I was getting pretty bored halfway through then only really started paying attention again when ruby was “killed”. 5/10 for me, very mid.

It's hilarious to me that literally every girl I've seen react to this episode started dancing to Can't Get You Out of My Head..hahaha, such a bop
Huge easter egg when we're seeing his former faces in that the Richard E Grant Scream of the Shalka alt 9th face is shown, so effectively now made canon. Madness (in a good way)
I suspect many tubers will do videos hating on this episode but I thought it was done really well (my only complaint was the trap scenario) but yes another great episode.
And Vanessa's hair is gorgeous! ❤
These episodes have been more intriguing and exciting than fans realize. It's been a fantastic season.
no they havent. so far, this season has 1 good episode. The rest too much agenda, not enough actual doctor.

Felt a bit like the Clockwork people in the Madame Du Pampadore episode with David Tennant.
Groff sending out some serious Capt Jack vibe really made this episode great.
Did everyone miss that there was an extra Doctor in the holograms?
it's the shalka doctor, which means he's canon now and I am so happy
@@wesper-stan I had to actually rewind when the Shalka Doctor came up because for a moment I thought I must have misidentified someone. I wonder if this is supposed to retcon the Shalka Doctor into a future incarnation of the Doctor or supposed to suggest the timelines somehow crossed over?

SHALKA DOCTOR CANON???
Yea I don’t think it is the Shalka doctor others are saying i think it the great intelligence as that’s who I think Susan twist actress is playing scattered across doctors timeline. I think this was dr Simeon who was entwined in doctors time line
It makes no sense I think RTD is just getting lazy and adding in fluff.
I think for me because they are the only romances that didn't feel like there was a power imbalance.
Loved this very entertaining episode. Fun bits and scary bits. Be great to see Rogue again.
The trap explanation seems simple enough. It could hold 5, he became the 6th so was able to push Ruby out. Also, they did not invent 'cushy', that's a common UK word.
By giving her the word "cushy" they just invented it earlier than history intended.
@@LatetotheParty Oh I see! Well, she didn't survive the episode, so I think history's safe!
Indira Varma from GOT has already appeared in the DW universe as Suzi from Torchwood.
You shoukd give that a go if you havent.
I get frustrated knowing it's obviously coming and hey, RTD did tell everyone to get used to it LOL :)
And oh boy that teaser for next week, here it comes.
@@LordLOCur forgetting the French lady and the blonde from titanic there probably is more
Best bit was Richard E Grant's face in the scanning of the Dr
She must have heard this a million times, make it a million and one. I love her hair. She is so beautiful
Definitely felt like a New Jack Harkness, and I don't know how I feel about that. But overall, I liked this episode. I assume they just pissed off so many conservative viewers -- at least the ones who aren't too busy thinking that a Black Doctor means no white people can watch the show anymore -- but... nothing of value is lost in that 😂
Was this my favorite episode of the season?
@@LatetotheParty True! Somehow it never occurred to me that "explain Susan, then" is the ultimate mic drop against these scared children 😂
Yes, it is THE Kate Herron of Loki guys.
I think this is family of blood meets the Agatha Christie episode
It’s been a slow burn but Ncuti has officially taken the throne of my favorite Doctor. This episode was just too good.
Yeah, the number system is totally a mess now. We just go by Wikipedia. They have their shit in the proper order.
He's literally not. Firstly, they have a completely different personality. Secondly, why wouldn't Jack recognize the 9th Doctor?
I think the rogue will come back in a season or two

I wonder if Rogue knows Captain Jack?

"I will keep her safe." As River (and speaking of her, damn, Fifteen, aren't you *married?* ) said, "Rule One...." :)

I travelled for a while with someone. They left. Hmmm….A nod to Cptn Jack?
The Doctor has Ruby back... and has Ruby's back...
was that Richard grant as a doctor face? 4th face i think in the ship?

I LOVE THE GAYNESS IT WARMS MY HEART
Generally I prefer the doctor not being interested in romance (especially with their companion like rose) but this was a really good episode and it’s fun to watch so I don’t mind it
This episode simply was a Doctor who episode.
Every other episode of the season has been black mirror for some reason.
I like the episode it's GOOD
The way it was played...Either Captain Jack...Or River playing Captain Jack
Or... crazy theory. A new character. Rogue is literally like neither River or Jack.

I hope that he isn’t dead they will find him, but it will be either a new doctor or a new episode, but I hope they just don’t forget him and leave him as dead in this episode. I hope he does return and he and the other one go on adventures together. Like ruby
So surprise, surprise its gone Gay, we didnt see that coming lol😅😅😅😅
Never a fan of the Doctor having a love life -- not Rose; not River -- but this was still a great episode. Rogue was a fun character. I'd even enjoy a Rogue spinoff. Chuldur were cool.
And if you were scandalised by the gay element, 1813 phoned - they want their attitude back.
They keep kiling suzie... again
Is rogue river?
Honestly, we think the River story is over. Stratch that, we think the River story SHOULD be over.
No, River used up all her remaining regenerations to save the Doctor
Agreed, River's story is complete nothing to add there. I want to believe that Rogue is a much younger Jack pre-memory wipe.
@@river8659 ooh that's an interesting concept/idea. My mind kinda went to someone who Jack lost/who lost Jack (cause we know from Ianto that Jack might be a flirt but he can love deeply too). Either way, I hope he gets revisited.
@@writeonshell
My brain immediately went to yes, he lost his brother and his family (Torchwood I think the episode was "Adam"). It feels like a very RTD thing to do after all this time to finally tell us about Jack's missing years and a way to bring him back without messing up the past. I'm sure I'm wrong but I love the idea.
Susie!
Captain Jack needs to return.
Time lord diamond?
Lets goooo
Don't worry your not alone in that. This is not "Dr. Who".
Skipped all the gay part (sorry) Another FANTASTIC Episode🔥9/10
So you're homophobic? Got it.
