- In a THRILLING second episode, Deku discovers Allmight's secret, and in the process is told he can't be a hero. At the same time, Bakugo gets attacked by everyone's favorite goo-man, and without thinking DEKU RUNS IN TO HELP! This then leads to a moment with an onlooking Allmight that changes Deku’s life forever, and with the way this story is going, we can't WAIT to see what happens next!

All Might is such an inspiring Character not just because he's a badass superhero but mainly because he is even weaker than Deku without his quirk which is exactly the inspiration Deku needs to move forward

@@annaavertho4944 his body is naturally strong. he was just injured to the point that he was emaciated. he is still strong though. we see scenes of him lifting massive amount of weight in his skin and bones form
Seeing All Might's true form convinced me to give this show a chance. The pilot episode was fine, but it felt a little by the numbers seeing the idol appear to inspire the protagonist to become a hero. But after it's revealed that the perfect superhero look is just a facade and that the real All Might almost looks like a crackhead IRL, really peaked my interest, because that gave a whole new spin to the ideal hero image.
This show really likes to take tropes and turn them on their head, Allmight being a GREAT example of that, glad you're excited for this show!!
youre going like the show, to say the least, but this is a show where cant really base it on the first episode, its not great on its own, because, yes, it is really safe, you kind of need to watch the first 3 contiguously, like if episode 1 ended on that scene in the beginning of episode 2, which i cant remember if theres a preview after the credits, but i think it wouldve been a bigger hook for audiences who didnt read the manga had they ended the first episode on a cliffhanger, its cheaper but effective at generating interest
@@LettsReact What a bad dubbing 😐 seriously, there are still people who watch anime with dubbing??? I say this because there are an excessive number of examples of very bad adaptations in the dubbing and that happens even today, not to mention that in the English dubbing in many anime many dialogues were censored and changed for being "not morally acceptable" not to mention that in almost all dubbings in English there are many bad translations 😒 if they start watching they would be scared to see the large number of animes that are like this, it's not for nothing that people all over the world prefer to watch animes with their original audios
What I think helps is that despite this huge secret All Might is still genuinely as great a hero as Midoriya always imagined he was. Heck, probably even more so given he was continuing to be a hero in spite of his horrible injury. This series doesn't go the route of trying to claim that "Nobody could actually be that good of a person." or "No one man should have all that power because power corrupts". All Might's not perfect but him being a genuinely good and heroic person who sincerely wants to help others is never in question. This series about superheroes does not punish its audience for liking superheroes.
@user-kz1oh8tk3x and there are people out there who even care that others watch them dubbed?! It's not the end of the world if people prefer to watch dubbed anime so I don't understand why you saw the need to judge them watching it dubbed instead of the original audio.
I always liked how they managed to keep All Might interesting without going the whole “he’s secretly a bad person” route

Plus ultraaaaaaaa! I might just join patreon for MHA. I’ve been watching Anime since the 90’s but MHA really has surprised me in so many ways. Not only does it twist a lot of Shonen stereotypes, but it is a surprisingly deep coming of age story about extremism and the fact, that families really are the smallest cell of society. If you can’t protect the children and see beyond the scope of your personal reality, society is bound to struggle.
See the human behind the label again and try to reach out a hand regardless of opinions, political views or relationship.
Meddling where you don’t need to is the essence of being a hero after all.

Gosh the moment Deku gets validated by All Might and starts crying, the way it's animated of him clutching his shirt and open-eyed sobbing at the ground, and of course the amazing performance of the VA, its makes me teary every single time. Just perfectly captured raw emotions of recognition and joy so pure you can't help but cry because you never really thought you'd get it. It's amazing
I think what resonates so much for me is Deku and being told so much in your youth that you can’t achieve anything. My bio dad torn down my confidence. So I know what it feels like to have no one believe in you. So it was incredibly emotional to see Deku cry because he found someone who saw his value. Love MHA and what it stands for.
There is a reason why most of the fanbase sees All Might as basically Midoriya's dad.
Considering how interesting it was to watch your ATLA and Attack on Titan reactions when Kenny watched the majority or all of it and Montana knew nothing, watching another show with that type of format is going to be so fun.

You know my hero wasn't my favorite of the shows, but I'm really glad it won just because of how excited Kenny is to show Montana it. The real joy of these reactions is seeing them enjoy the shows so I think MHA was the right choice

There's just something about that specific line that hits so differently from the other dub version where he says "can u be a hero? Not without a quirk". It's like, more stern with this version like he's not even trying to spare his feelings, he's just giving it to him raw and uncensored, but with the other version it's like he's still trying to be niceabout it, which makes the end ofthe episode so much satisfying
I agree, I also like how he says ‘honestly’ too. It makes the line circle back into the conversation where he says he just puts on a brave face but feels fear inside. He clearly doesn’t like the reality of the situation, but if someone as powerful has him can get his internal organs completely rocked then a quirkless hero wouldn’t stand a chance.
Not to get into spoilers too much, but what Eraserhead goes through towards the end of the season proves that just going into underground heroics wouldn’t be a perfect solution for a quirkless hero.
Seeing Kenny internal struggles and excitement has a good nostalgic feel, remembering my Attack on Titan binge

I always hear people blaming All Might for saying Deku can't be a hero without a quirk..and crushing his dreams..
But honestly..All Might was looking out for Midoriya, Right?? I mean Imagine if he said he can do anything and he rushes in trying to go against a super powerful villian without powers..that's just su*cide.(Then again Deku did that to save Bakugo even after he said no..but atleast it was to save Bakugo and not from false hope)
So yeah..while it was brutal..he was being reasonable.
It's always weird when I see some people imagine a villain version of Midoriya being along similar lines as Syndrome from The Incredibles, with him resenting All Might for what he said, but that really doesn't fit him or how All Might was acting.
All Might's tone seemed pretty clearly apologetic, like he knew this wasn't what the kid wanted to hear and he didn't like being the one to crush his dreams. He was being forward with Midoriya but not dismissive of him. He was giving his honest thoughts.

The weirdest thing to me is that technically All Might didn’t have a quirk either before one for all, so him saying he couldn’t be a hero is kinda crazy. I get that he got a quirk so he might still think it’s impossible without a quirk, but still to totally reject him like that surprises me.

I do enjoy the Villain Deku aus..But only the ones that take everything everyone said not just All Might as the reason for his villany..Plus an additional reason(like in one of the villan deku aus I really like..they made Deku's mom get into an accident and a coma and no hero came until Deku because it was an alleyway)

While All Might was quirkless..the reason he could be a hero is because he got a quirk..
He wasn't planning on giving Deku OFA instead one of the UA students...so Technically Deku could not have had a quirk..So..It is pointless to give him false hope. I am sure it hurt All Might to say that..but like..it's better than havung Deku do stupid suc*dal stuff without a quirk

As a person with an autoimmune disease that has put my love of teaching on an indefinite hiatus, I appreciate All Might and his honesty with deku so so so much, and his support and willingness to give aide (super important for us disabled folk)

Chris Sabat: the voice of All Might, Vegeta, Zoro, Yami and he voices someone from Full Metal among other voices. He is one of the best VAs in the industry.

Ok so just wanted to give you guys a heads up there are after credits scenes in some episodes. The only ones I remember are Episode 8 and 13 of Season 1 and Episode 20 of Season 2. There's more so be on the look out or ask the patreons.

The fuckin music gets me every time. And the call-back to this moment last season. Incredible show.
Lot's of different graphic novelists and authors have tried to make a deconstructed superhero story of how it would be to exist in such a world
what sets MHA apart from something like the boys and other similar stories is that when those authors tried to deconstruct the superhero genre they turned most of the Superheroes into sociopaths and turned the entire genre way too grimdark. They were all made by people that seemed to hate superhero stories, wereas Horikshi seems to genuinely adore them
Mha approaches it with slightly more nuance. Some heroes get into the job for the fame, some for the money, some of the heroes are legitimate assholes and some people do it out of a genuine desire to help people
it's also worth noting that most of the characters in this show has their personality embodied in their power, not all of them, but many, could be something to look out for
That's my issue with a lot of those superhero deconstructions. The whole thing of "if this were real, Superman would be a fascist douchebag" feels very... middle school edgelord. Cynical for the sake of cynical. As you said, made by people that seem to hate superheroes.

Even the ones who are only Pro Heroes for fame and money are shown to not even be bad people, just at worst not taking the job as seriously as they should. Most heroes in MHA are at the very least decent, which helps those that aren't like Endeavor and Bakugo stand out and gives their character arcs more uniqueness in the setting.

I really love All Might’s English voice. It sounds so iconic and fits so well, when I read All Might dialogue now, this is the one I hear in my head.
I'll be completely honest, I always tear up a bit when All Might tells Deku that he can be a hero, too.

Deku : Bravery isnt doing something and not being scared. Bravery is being scared, and doing it anyway.
It makes sense All Might's DETROIT SMAAAASH would cause it to rain. If his punches are truly causing a massive updraft of air into the atmosphere above, then the temperature change would lead to precipitation in the area.
I always thought that Midorya's quirk was just being very analytical/strategic and it just didn't present itself as a quirk.
*slight spoilers for the episode*
It’s really interesting to see how the society became dependent on Quirks. Heroes thought they had “unsuitable Quirks” for the job and would rather wait for someone with “a suitable Quirk” than help a suffocating victim. Human brain can last 4 minutes without oxygen, before permanent brain damage appears. Heroes would’ve been responsible for permanent health damage and yet they still had the audacity to scold Midoriya and act as if they’ve done nothing wrong.
And that’s why Shiggy and stain have a point.
However we all definitely have encountered countless situations where we thought “that person is probably fine no need to offer help”, or “the police/ hospitals/shelter will be there” or “if I interact now, that might be awkward” or “I’m not made out to help here”.
Non of this makes you a bad person, but as a society we have forgotten how to a) offer help and b) ask for help and MHA kinda shows this as well.
“The first step towards a stranger is the hardest”
Sorry for the long rant ahead. I have a very different take on that scene.
While that is true to a certain extent, the Heroes also had some sound reasoning. Quirk Match-ups are a very real thing. Death Arms couldn't do anything to the sludge villain. He is strong, but not strong enough to create pressure waves. He could not get a grip on the villain, he could not do any damage to the villain, so he focused on keeping the damage from spreading, and keeping other potential victims away. Kamui Woods might have been able to squeeze his vines around Bakugo, but the villain seemed to be able to fit through any oppening that was not water tight, and Bakugo's explosions made it tough to get close. He couldn't get him out, since the villain was wrapped around him. Backdraft MIGHT have been able to wash the villain away, but we don't know how much power his water control has, so maybe he tried that before we saw, and determined that it wouldn't work.
Midoriya running in not only put himself at risk, since he was a civilian with no legal right to use his powers (the heroes had no way to know if he had them or not at that point) but also was a further complication that split the attention of the heroes who were there. This very easily could have led to more victims, and a worse disaster. Yes, Midoriya did cause the villain to flinch, and give Bakugo a breath, but Death Arms and the other two with him were still fighting the villain as best they could. They were trying, but Bakugo's explosions and the Sludge villains attacks were keeping them from getting close. Midoriya got REALLY lucky he wasn't just knocked to the side as he tried to get close, which very likely could have killed him. (it knocked death arms back and staggered him, and he is a pro hero who was braced to take the hit. If All Might hadn't stepped in, Midoriya would have died to the blow that All Might blocked.
More spoilers for later in the series ahead!
That villain had a very tough quirk to deal with in general, and it was made even worse by the fact that he took a hostage. Very few heroes we have seen, even through the whole rest of the series could reliably deal with that villain's quirk. (I would say maybe Iida later on; Endeavor maybe, but it depends on how the sludge responds to heat, and the hostage makes it a lot tougher; Bakugo once he gets a LITTLE better, Midoriya of course, potentially Ojiro based on how he fought Mudman might do it, Gran Torino could do it fairly well, and Momo depending on what she made, but about half of those are big Maybes, and half of them are some of the strongest heroes.) The heroes there were in a very tough spot, where they had very few options, as they were nullified by the quirk of the villain. It would be like someone taking a hostage, then having machine guns laying down suppressive fire on the police who show up. The police don't have the tools to counteract that, they need to call in the SWAT team. These heroes are all good in their own ways, but the exact situation was outside their capabilities.
I always took that scene to show how the world looks really bright and flashy, but it is just a performance the pros are putting on. They are doing their best, but sometimes you just don't have the tools to save someone. You can't blame yourself if you there is an earthquake that collapses a building, and you didn't save someone because a two ton slab of concrete was in the way. You didn't have the tools to get them out. These heroes have to be everything all the time. They are celebrities, and first responders. Sometimes you just don't have the tools, and this was one of those cases.
not really, because what if your quirk is fire(no relation to anything in the story), and your opponent is water, what are going to do, make steam, thats not really helping. some quirks will negate other quirks and thats the equivalent of being quirkless, which isnt helping the situation, because acting recklessly isnt helpful and can be very detrimental, especially since quirks can be very, very dangerous.
midoriya should be scolded for that, because he was going to die there had all might not stepped in, this is addressed later in later seasons starting in 2, "just because it all worked out, that makes it okay to break the rules". its not okay for civilians to interfere with hero work because that can and will increase causalities, even in real life, police dont want civilians help them in their police work, because of protocols and laws, like imagine a police chase and you have a car thats faster and stronger than theirs and the suspects, you could block, t-bone, or whatever to stop the suspect, which could help, but more than likely youre going to mess it up, causing a much bigger problem
I love that quirk is the term for superpower as if what makes you unique makes you strong.

Deku coulda been the worlds greatest sidekick. Surround himself with, and befriend a bunch of powerful but less motivated heroes. Then when he runs in and gets in danger they will have to stop villains to save him 😂
MHA IS BACK AT LAST! I have myself a show to analyze! I can analyze this show significantly better than I can FMA, so I have been WAITING for this one. Complex fiction needs a TON of attention to work to its best and I need to look at it from every angle since there’s just so many facets to it. MHA sits pretty as my 2nd favorite show of all time just beaten out by Avatar the Last Airbender. And that is basically just nostalgia keeping it up top. This seems like your ordinary superhero show but to immediately throw political, medical, AND psychological nuance at you RIGHT OFF THE BAT, it truly is the tip of the iceberg.
I mean look at the start of Deku NEVER EVER getting any kind of respect to his name. His bully is practically getting suffocated and heroes just keep their distance and let it happen. He does EVERYTHING he can to help. And he gets screamed at. His #1 idol had JUST deflated what little hope remained and he STILL couldn’t help himself. That is SHEER willpower. And for it to turn into the same inspiration ALL-MIGHT gave to the people when he sees the powerless resist against all odds, he knew he found an amazing pure hearted person. And that is no accident. Deku is an empath after all. (Which ironically is a real-life quirk. Go figure.)
Bakugo of course gives his best thanks in the only way he knows how. SCREW YOU DEKU! I WAS FINE SUFFOCATING! (There is a manga translation version where Bakugo swears exactly as much as a middle school teenager like him would. And it works WAY too well.) Bakugo needless to say has an inferiority complex. And a BAD one. His emotions only come out one way and runs COMPLETELY counter to Deku’s wide variety and connection to every emotion. Bakugo may be the rival of the story, but rivals can’t be that unless there’s mutual respect. And since there’s NONE from Bakugo, what you have is a bully and a victim. Don’t ever forget that.
And the RELIEF this kid gets hearing the 1st PERSONAL hope given to him. And in the form of becoming close with who he admired beyond all else. He wants to GIVE his power. Which is…not how quirks work. So that’s weird.
And we do get a glimpse of the variety of heroes. There are 4 types of heroes. Combat, Rescue, Containment, and Detective. You can most of every type on full display during this fight. And the more advanced the hero, the more they can spread their specialties. And as I am sure it doesn’t need to be explained, All-Might is all 4 rolled up in 1. Kinda hard to say anything other than combat when 1 move brings clouds from MILES AWAY to turn a clear day into an eye of the storm rainy day. (And…I don’t think I can properly sell just how crazy that is. The guy clearly lost ORGANS and can STILL do that.) But he did EVERYTHING on full display. Tracking through sewers, stuffing the guy into 2 soda bottles when it takes the cops 12 full garbage bags, and getting Bakugo AND Deku out no injuries even when they were at point blank range.
I am SO excited for this show to be reacted to.

Hey guys, the show is NOT called "My Hero" it's "My Hero Academia" - I know it's a minor distinction but there actually is a show called "My Hero". It's a british sitcom about a superhuman alien with no understanding of humans trying to blend in as a human while moonlighting as a superhero and I used to LOVE it as a child

Each arc Deku encounters someone who has a huge issue with hero society, heros or quirks in general…I thought in each arc except the first one, but now i just realised, that the person having an issue with hero society in the intro arc is in fact Allmight himself 😮
I also kinda forgot, that Allmight was feeling down and was cynical about his image (and we later learn, that *spoiler* it was due to him getting weaker and the fight he had with nighteye).
It was purely Dekus idealism that motivated him. So this makes the recent stuff even more logical and makes it even sadder.

They never say what UA stands for (other than justice), but I like to think it means Ultra Academy.
Your comparison to marvel is actually more spot on than you think. Horikoshi(the Manga's author) he stated multiple times he LOVES Marvel and that not only is marvel a big inspiration for My Hero. But Spider-Man is actually the blueprint for Deku's character. If you keep an eye out they actually have alot of Marvel and Other anime series characters in backgrounds and mixed into crowds and stuff it's really cool. 👌
Pornograffiti was the name of an album by a band called Extreme back in the late 80’s/early 90’s. These guys loved the name and used it for their band

As a foreigner, I sometimes feel like the English translation take some liberties that take away from a scene.
For example, when Deku says "I couldn't just watch you die" in Japanese he's saying something like "your eyes looked like you were asking to be saved ", and this is what pisses Bakugou the most, I think.

It’s weird to think about what would happen if Deku didn’t step in on the sludge incident (with Bakugou). Would All Might just watch a middle schooler get killed by the sludge villain? Would he just let him die?
Not only did he motivate All Might to act beyond his limits. Deku's bag throw did distract the villian enough to make the villian free the bully kid's mouth allowing him to breath again.
Kenny's Deku-like enthusiasm for this series is hard to not love, even if I wanna shush him for being so quick to infodump. Lmao This is probably my favorite anime series as well and I hope that they're able to really enjoy how emotionally riveting this series can be.

Guys. I saw a theory! Deku was near death plenty of times but he didn’t die. You know how some quirks aren’t obvious? Well, the person said maybe Deku did have a quirk but it wasn’t obvious. What if Deku’s quirk was immortality? That would explain why he hasn’t died when he should have and why no one knew if he did have a quirk. You can’t test it without trying to kill someone so how would they know if Deku was actually immortal. They wouldn’t. That’s why I believe that Deku’s quirk was originally immortality!
