It is absolutely incredible that Pochetinо saw Maatsen and thought "Nah, this guy is not a left back". Ian is very neat and solid, defends well , is tenacious, but also most importantly has technical ability on the ball and is proficient in attacking sense. Cucurella is solid defensively, but he is over aggressive and exposes himself really badly in some moments, while Chilly has no technical ability on the ball and rarely crosses. His attacking contribution is great when he is playing as a wing back, because he can strike the ball cleanly if the ball reaches him in the final third, but he himself is not at all good at making sure the ball reaches those advanced areas. It would be a calamity if the ownership sells Maatsen, because he is currently the best left back that we have at the club and certainly one that can reach world class level, unlike Chilly and Cucu, who are both in their prime and both have glaring issues in their game. As for Musiala, I watched him against Arsenal and he is probably one of the top 10 dribblers in the world right now. The way he nimbles out of challenges and leaves people in his wake is truly exceptional and one of the best attributes a winger can have for navigating in tight spaces. I would gladly sell Mudryk and Sterling to have Musiala in the team, he is a gem and if Bayern are open to selling him, which they might be if he is not resigning, we better try and sign him.
Risky to play offensive outside backs in a back 4. Would love to see it though.
1. Maatsen is basically a LB version Gusto so these owners should forget about their pride and keep him.
2. Just sell Sterling and buy Musiala, keep Mudryk and allow him to grow because he's developing and improving in form recently.
3. Get a CB like De Ligt or even Militao or Marquinhos to replace Thiago Silva at the end of the season.
4. If PSG do get Osimhen, then let Jackson develop and don't waste money on a new, inexperienced striker like Sesko or Gyokeres.

I really liked Maatsen from what I saw from him live in the US summer tour. I will be sad to see him leave, particularly for so small a fee.
Na it’s not the ownerships fault that maatson wants to leave, it’s potch. We didn’t have a fit LB for like 6 months and he played colwill out of position instead of a young promising maatson

As much as I want Musiala , we do not need him m he is an attacking midfielder / winger / creativebplayer ,palmer and nkunku are the exact same position and style of play . + that means we compromise on the money of osimhen and a CB which are much more needed

Cucurella or chilwell needs to go and we need to do our best to keep maatsen. I'd prefer to keep chilwell, he's class, but he's always hurt. Also saying we need musiala is literally part of the problem... we bought way too many attacking players, and so they struggled for playing time and none of them did well... look at pulisic, werner, ziyech, havertz, Hudson-odoi...
Jackson is great, and future King 👑, that Goal against Everton was a sign of wat is to come, because Jackson before can never score such goal, and if you watch this last match he was trying outside 18yrd strike.

Maatsen struggled with the physicality of the PL and his lack of height made him a weak link in the Defense. As good as he is on the ball, he wouldn’t have been good enough defensively to play at LB and that’s why Poch pushed him up because he’s so good on the ball. It’s good business

Madueke is a consistant performer, our best dribbler and most aggressive forward and he has not missed a penalty either,
I don’t see any reason why we should buy a new left back even if we sell maatsen . We have chilwell, cucurella and even gusto can play there. We even have colwill who can put in a shift there if required . We attack predominantly from the right anyway .
What would be the setup with Musiala? Agree, Chelsea look dangerous AF on the counter. Musiala would fit right in. But do we go after a proper striker, or play a striker less system with a combination of 2 of Musiala, Nkunku, and Jackson. Palmer would have to stay out left in this system. How does Bernardo fit into this team. He's a poor man's Palmer.
Couldn't agree with you more on the striker situation. Yes, Jackson wasn't scoring at the start of the season, but firstly he is scoring now, and secondly, the whole season he has just shown what an all-around fantastic player he is. The way he tracks back, the way he holds up play and the way he connects with the wingers I think is amazing. He seems like such a headache for defenders and can receive the ball and turn on defenders better than most strikers in the league. We forget too that we haven't had Nkunku the whole season. Just imagine a consistent attacking core of Nkunku, Palmer, and Jackson. That spells goals right there so I really don't see a need for striker to replace Jackson. Maybe one at his same price that can compete with him and provide him some good competition.
Also. Plug for Carney Chukwuemeka who I feel deserves consistent playing time and could be amazing in the 10 position for the club. So again, I really don't know how much of a need I see for more attacking options unless it is just a surefire Wonderkid like a Musiala. Otherwise, I want to continue to see the guys we have grow and flourish and build on this season
Maatsen probably has a problem with poch . However if the new manager wants to keep him ( saying we do get a new manager) I don't think he will deny , because it was chelsea where he played, it is obviously bigger than dortmund ,and an upward trajectory of chelsea can be seen , from 12th we will already finish between 6th to 8th . It will only get better next ssn .
I kidna agree on the Nate Jackson take but his attitude now is becoming a problem.

I would take the money for maatsen and put it towards going for a Grimaldo or an Alphonso Davies. Would love to see Musiala but can’t see it happening without selling a few players like Gallagher, Chalobah etc as he will be 80+mil. Jackson is frustrating me to watch week in week out as a Chelsea fan you never know what you’re getting and I can’t see him being a 20+ goal a season striker for us.
Don't mind us selling Maatsen, it didn't work out for us. I believe we have what we need in the left back position even if Chilwell might be injury prone. I really don't think we'll suffer another injury stricken season like this one or the one before. As far as Musiala, I don't like the idea of resigning players that we let go especially if he's gonna cost 100 mil.
Maatsen is a left sided Gusto - utterly massive. Sympathise with Maatsen, we have to show him that we want him. On the other hand, if he wins the Champions League, he's not coming back here, no way. Chilly may even be past it. Cucurella will die for this club, and we need more like that.
Musiala is actually quite lightweight compared to Nicholas Jackson. Continue building around him, you CAN rely on him as you say. Musiala is and opportunist and feeds off scraps, great. Better that he sits on Man City bench.

He’s a horrible keeper.. he might be okay for a mid table team in Germany or France/Italy. That’s about it. My only concern with some of these great players, just like top manager candidates if we sack Poch, is… why would any of them wanna come here seeing how much of a mess we are, and we likely won’t be getting Europa this season? (I don’t think Conference League would move the needle much)
I think the past few months Jackson has shown us there is a player in him, but I don’t think think that player is a striker. It’s more when he plays off the wing or further back through the middle, but he doesn’t score those traditional striker goals- yes he got one last game against Everton, but like you said about the Bernardo Silva penalty let’s not let recency bias affect the narrative. I do think we need a proven out-at-out number 9, so I don’t think Sesko is the answer because he’s young and raw like Jackson and not even lighting it up in Bundesliga, so that doesn’t make me confident he will in the Premier League which is definitely a step up. I keep saying it, but I think Vlahovic should be our top target if Osimhen is a no-go and I don’t understand why we don’t seem to be even considering him
35 for maatsen and 25 for Hall is 60m profit straight on the books. If Gallagher goes it will be because he has refused his offer and we should cash in now than lose him for nothing, he's choice.
I’ll stick with Petrovich. Don’t wanna see Gallagher gone too but if we don’t make Europe, it’s gonna be difficult to not sell him. I am willing to give Jackson one more season to develop and be comfortable in the league. I would definitely sign some experience players the beef up the squad. Maybe one defender and one midfielder or one defender and a left winger (depending on if we sell Gallagher). If I could, I’d send Badiashile and Disasi out on loan.
We don’t need a striker! We don’t know yet how good Nkunku can be got us and I can only see him playing in the striker position. We need a World class CB that is it and maybe Florian Wirtz.
Due to the non idiotic splash of over a billion in transfers with such a great results our home grown tallents are for sale by default so to meet the FFP rules otherwise...fines are bad but reduction of points is worse.
Forget about the merit and technical abilities if this or that player, we are beyond that for the time being.

However, Gusto has also proven he is too talented to leave on the bench. I believe they have to find a way to play both, and they will start working early in the summer to get Gusto used to playing on the left.

Maatsen is better than Cucurella because Maatsen is very good on the attacking phase although I'm not sure about the defensive one but Cucurella is mediocre defensively and very poor or almost nonexistent offensively.

It's a double edged sword. £35 mill for an academy product is brilliant. Yet knowing we signed cucu for £60 mill and he's worse than maatsan is something we'll have to accept. If we find another gusto type defender for a low price it with great potential, this would be worth it

I think we need an experienced CB, not as old as Silva, but as experienced. The rest of the team will pick itself when fully fit.
What we need is a good striker and a good GK. And a good manager.

Why would Musiala join Chelsea, if there is an option to join Man City, who are playing for titles and who can pay same if not higher salary?
Maatsen leaving is terrible news, but let me please challenge one of the real reasons why Chelsea hasn’t performed consistently this season and his name is Enzo Fernandez. His absence in last game against Everton evidenced this for many of us. First of all, this allowed Gallagher to move close to Caicedo as DM where he shines. The relentless energy and intensity Connor brings is second to none but he is wasted in the #10 position. Enzo is slow w/o the ball and with it is OK but not magical (e.g. Cesc or Hazard). In conclusion, having Enzo stepping aside can open many posibilities with a Caicedo-Gallagher DM and either Palmer or Nkunku in a central position with lots of flexibility. Also this would allow for Madueke and Mudryk wing partnership as well. A better striker is still wanted. Would you agree?
