My family and I watched this a couple years ago and I came back to find this video. I did not get to meet Jamie before her deep sleep, but I saw this and thought she was a sweetie back then. Thanks for your family's dedication and hard work. This is our first year truely attempting a garden and I appreciate the advice. Shalom to your family and I hope you all are continuing to be encouraged. May Abba Yah bless your family. ~ Rachel Durning
GREAT video! I like you all but Jaimie's mother is my favorite. She has such a sweet smile and she reminds me of one of my favorite aunts, a kind soul. :-)
GARLIC!!! YUMMMMMMM!!!!!!! SO GOOD and SO GOOD FOR YOU!!! This is my first visit to your channel. I have subscribed, *liked* and shared on my FB page. Thank you for sharing, and please keep the videos on ALL subjects coming! You and your family are absolutely AWESOME! God bless you all
This is Sharon and I loved this video. We would like to try this this winter for sure and will let you know how it turned out. Cant wait to see you finished outside kitchen. Thank you for the explanation on how to braid as well as cook the garlic. Be Blessed.
Thanks for mentioning the value of good mulching, A long dry spell can turn garden soil hard as concrete with a good mulch. And, continuously adding more as it decomposes adds more organic matter to you soil.
Perhaps it's a crocodile, or gator egg... or even a Dino egg? :D You guys are so awesome, very inspiring, and genuine. I love everything you do :) God bless!
Thank you so much for showing how to braid the rows, my precious aunt taught me so many moons ago, but I was young, and just doing it with her, and only her, I have not kept that skill up. Thank you for my refresher course. I appreciate it so much more then you know, I lost my precious aunt four years ago.. I had no one to show me how to do it any longer..Thank you.
You can also evenly coat garlic with oil and roast in foil. I just wrap loosely. I learned this about 20 years ago at a fine dining restaurant I worked at in the Rocky Mountains. Excellent in mashed potatoes with fresh herbs from the garden.
oh man I am so happy for yall. I feel its a grand accomplishment to grow garlic! I have tried for years to no avail! I bought some heirloom garlic last year to plant..had really good looking plants through the winter and spring...I think all the heavy rains we have been having lately kept them from bulbing out. I pulled up some nasty smelling little bitty garlic.
Actually we use lots of hay and shredded leaves, and limbs, news papers any cardboard and junk mail minus the little plastic window on the envelop to mulch. as long as you keep mulching the grass doesn't grow. Out of a 60'x25' garden we have so much veggies to put up for winter and also to barter and give to others that aren't able to get out and grow veggies. We also live in the hills of the Ozarks.
Great video. My wife and I are crazy about Roasted Garlic as well. Try drizzling some Olive Oil after spreading on the bread and sprinkle with Parm Reggiano Cheese and some Red Pepper Flake , if you feel Spicy. It takes the Garlic to a higher level of tasty...JJ
I love roasted garlic. Something I like to do is add a splash of balsamic vinegar, with the oil, yummy. Add to mashed potatoes or really anything. Try it you’ll like it.
hello i love the eggs at the end of the video one of my chickens layed an egg like that and my boys found it and were so excited that Jasper our rooster layed an egg...... lol
I've had the same issue with my Stihl string trimmer, and it's most certainly related to the fuel. Low octane fuel with ethanol will ruin the primer bulbs as well. It was suggested to me from the Stihl dealer to run high octane fuel & drain all fuel that won't be used within a month.
seeing you use the chain saw with no chaps gave me an idea for a video topic for yall.. a walk through of yalls first aid/safety kits and their placement around the homestead
and at the risk of sounding crazy lol Jamie is like .... well she's who I wanna be when I grow up lol.... I aspire to someday be half as competent and lovely .... and I loveeeeeee her head wraps. Ty you guys for all the info you share ... you have no idea what an absolute educational pleasure you've been to watch :)
I grow our tomatoes on cattle panels too. Romas do really well, I tried some beefsteak type and they don't grow as long and so did not do quite as well. Mulch is the only reason I can garden at all. We live where the average annual rainfall is 7 inches. I had to smile when you said it hadn't rained in a week! That is the norm here in western CO! :) You should check out Back to Eden film. com
For root crops like potatoes and sweet potatoes, how are you able to "hill" them as they grow? Do you pull the mulch away and then throw dirt to the plants, or do you just put the dirt on top of the mulch?
Yeah annual maintenance is a must, even with Stihl chainsaws. Fortunately we have a nearby gas station that sells ethanol free gasoline. Have yet to replace fuel filter.
Straw on the garden is a GREAT idea! Do you water your garden at all and if so, how often? Here in Montana, we don't have the humidity, but we do have the heat.
Will you be planting several of those smaller garlics back into your garden, together with several onions, etc., to Permaculture (Companion Planting) protect several of your veggies against pest like tomatoe hornworm and cabbage worm etc.?
i found some stuff I add to my weed eater (stihl fs45) fuel that counters the effects of ethanol. the ethanol ate up my diaphragm in the carb so I had to replace it.
Try to get some ethanol-free fuel if you are able. We have only 1 place within like 30 miles of us that sells it, but that's where we go for fuel for our small engines.
Whereabouts in the Ozarks are you guys? I live in Springfield, MO and have set a goal of moving to the country to do some farming and homesteading by 2022 (when I'm 40). Been looking all around southwest Missouri for around 20 acres of land. It's have to find a plot that has a good mix of pasture and forest, and I would really like an all-weather stream on property, as well as a well.
Zack loved the video especially regarding the alcohol in the fuel. You have the right idea but the wrong reason. There is no problem with the filter, it is doing its job. The problem is the alcohol is attacking the rubber parts and some soft plastics. The filter then traps the mush and clogs up just like it is supposed to before the mush gets to the engine. The real solution is to buy fuel without alcohol. You will have to go to a bulk fuel dealer or refiner to get it and if the bulk dealer does not have it ask them to order it. You will probably be required to buy a drum of fuel at a time. Otherwise you will not only be changing filters every year or two but you will also be changing all the rubber parts that the alcohol is eating away. God Bless
Great video! I have always wondered how people braid garlic. I have a question: When you start using your braided garlic, do you start cutting the garlic bulbs from the top of the braid first?
just a little friendly tip: look up tree notching! You wouldnt of needed the truck or tow chain. The way you did it in a bad case the bottom of the tree could of kicked back and hit you in the face!
it's a 362. I have several. always try to run 89 or better. and change your spark plug at least every 6 months. I am a professional free lance tree climber.
I have a lawn mower that after 1 year refused to start, sooo, took it to a repair shop, and, after $80. It runs like a dream again. The repairman told me the trick is to always let the mower run itself out of gas. Tie a zip tie on it if needed but run it out. I have had no problems whatsoever. Oh, also he said not to use gas older than 1 month old. I guess ethanol is really hard on small engines. Hope it helps.
Talking about "Nails on a chalk board" when people call "Soil" dirt. Dirt has no life in it soil has millions of living organisms and minerals for helping plants grow and get nutrients. LOL
Garlic... so good for you... so good tasting... what a gift. Proof that there is a loving Father looking out for us!!
It was fun watching Jamie braid the garlic!
I Homeschool my 13 year old daughter. we enjoy watching your videos together.

Good to see yall are devotees of Ruth Stout, first lady of mulching!

I am loving the little clips at the end of the videos. :)
Definitely a big egg! Thanks for sharing about growing garlic.

That roasted garlic looks wonderful, I think I will have to give it a try.
The ending was so cute. I'll have to subscribe and share on Facebook now. God bless you.
Great chain saw tip. My husband just bought his first Stihl and LOVES it so far! Thanks for the heads up!

I usually use chaps for bigger trees and hardwoods. They can be tricky. But these small cedar softwoods come down so easy.
I LOVE BACKED GARIC WITH SUNDRED TOMATOES AND NOODLES WITH A WHITE SAUSE
ty so very much for the filter tip :) ours has been a bear this year, I'm gonna have hubs try changing it out.... ty

I think your show is better than bear grills in the wild. Great recipe thank you I'll try it myself.

Excellent video! Keep us the great content. Hope you all aren't cooking too bad down there.
It's not that bad today. but the heat gets back tomorrow. When its that hot, we head to the swimming hole at the end of the day. :)

Patiently waiting for Episode 4 :)
Be out in the morning.
+An American Homestead niiiiiice!!!

You can also use bark dust

Hi guys...do you sharpen your own chain saw chains..??...if so can you do quick video on it please...Thanks from Australia..:)

There is one place in town that sells real gas with no ethanol. That is where we will buy from now on for the smaller engines.
An American Homestead Yeah that's definitely the way to go. :)

I was just wondering, I know we use the greens of the onions, can you use the green tops of the garlic plants in the same way??
Just to be clear, 50 parts gas, 1 part oil.
guinya's r good critters... good deal!! good watch birds u need @ least 20 of em tho
it's a 362. I have several. always try to run 89 or better. and change your spark plug at least every 6 months. I am a professional free lance tree climber.
Awesome. I bet you have some good stories!
Ohhhhhh man I hope that filter tips works on our #$&%***** chainsaw!
It probably will. The main thing is to stop using ethanol for your chainsaws and weedeaters.
I have a lawn mower that after 1 year refused to start, sooo, took it to a repair shop, and, after $80. It runs like a dream again. Chop n drop method is cheap covering
and did the guineas stop going on their coop at night?
Yummy......
Just saying...
I don't put fuel with ethanol on any of my equipment.
Thats very similar to Back to Eden gardening method
When do you plant Garlic?? We are in the South
Late fall or early winter. I'm in the south as well.
Where did u get the wheat straw?
farmer in the county grows it for his cattle. Keep the wheat and sells the straw.
+An American Homestead how long will that garlic stay fresh for
wrap it in foil * bakes better ;)
