Thank you! Great video. Very easy task. I am NOT very mechanical and this was pretty simple for me. #1 disconnect battery. #2 remove heat shield and fan. #3 disconnect alternator plugins (2 of them). #4 remove S-belt. #5 remove top 2 bolts from alternator, wiggle it off the bottom bolt and remove. (there was no nut on the bottom bolt securing the alternator on my vehicle, i guess the person who replaced it last time found it unnecessary to put back on.) The "hardest" part for me was putting the S-belt back on. I found jacking up my car and using a 1/2 inch extended wrench on tension pulley from underneath was the best way for removal and putting it back on. I got to do this task twice, as the "new" alternator from Advance Auto Parts was bad, and needed replaced :) My first time through took about 2 hours.....Second time. Under 1 hour. DO NOT remove Power steering pump!!! There is plenty of room by removing fan and heat shield.
thanks to you i did change the alternator on my spi 2.0 focus man. Very good video and well explained. 1 thing i need to add is that the bottom bolt on the alternator need a 15mm deep socket not normal. THANK YOU VERY MUCH DUDE
Thanks for your help. First time try and it took 2 hours for me. I lowered the fan assembly (really easy) to make it much easier. I needed 2 socket wrenches because I left one in the belt tensioner.
dont take off the pump, just pop the 2 clips on the fan and slide it to through the bottom and pull the alternator up through the top will take less then an hour this way.
I just looked this video up for a just in case but when I looked in the engine i thought well if i just take the fan off it should work! Thanks for proving my thought process Sammantha ;D
Thanks for the video it was a big help. I wish I would have read Sammantha's comment first. I figured the fan assembly by myself but it would have saved some time.
It's a hell of a task. The serpentine belt removal is hard because of the belt tensionor is accessed from under the engine. I tied a 15 mm wrench off with a rope to hold it back to get the belt on and off. With the AC lines in the way I took out the three motor mount bolts, jacked the engine up a couple inches and shifted it forward away from the firewall. Also, removed electrical rely from firewall in addition to the PS and coolant reservoirs and small bracket. I had to pound a wedge between the bracket and the alternator to get it loose. I filed the steel back a bit on the new alternator so it would slip into place. Remember the alternator bolt closer to the firewall may not come out all the way, so it needs to be sticking out when putting it back. Good luck. It's almost a three hands 2 person job. It took me 4 hours, my first time for this make and model. I hated it.
I just did this replacement yesterday and there's a few things you will need to know: I did not have to remove or loosen any engine bolts, or remove any studs. Hints for successful removal and installation of the alternator on the 2000-04 2.0L SOHC: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Yes you do need to remove the power steering pump to make room to remove the alternator on the 2.0 SOHC model engine. 2. The bottom stud underneath the alternator does not need to be removed completely only the nut from it and then the alternator will come out with a twisting motion (after you've removed the top two bolts of course). 3) If you have trouble getting the serpentine belt back on try this: Getting the serpentine belt back over the alternator pulley can be challenging considering the limited amount of space there. I struggled with this seemingly easy task but considering the very limited amount of space and the fact that the tensioner has to be pulled into the alternator pulley therein lies the problem. I was finally able to put the serpentine belt back on by removing the pulley off the alternator and putting the belt on the pulley and then having a second person detention the belt while I forcefully pulled the pulley back onto the center alternator spline. -Good Luck
You also didn't take off or put on the third bolt underneath the alternator...PITA...replace the serpentine belt after putting that one in...or it won't line up...

You just saved me so much time I was scared but now I will prevail! 🙌

Yeah. An alternator change in this car is no small task. I'd rather do a timing belt than an alternator in this one.
Thank you! Very helpful. Also, Sammantha, thank you for your note about the fan. Worked great!
I'm going to give it a go. Thanks for the easy going video. Thanks to my great friend Shawn for the link. I'll channel Jesse's Garage as I go along.
very helpful, im replacing my alternator today on my 2003 ford focus se sohc. ill report back with an update. hopefully someone see :)
Very clear. Hi value knowing about tension release. Now off to buy some wrenches and a remanufactured alternator. (gulp)
Thanks. Respects.
Please stop calling it a timing belt. That is not the timing belt. You removed the serpentine belt.

Before you made the decision to change the battery; was it not charging at all or was it fluctuating?

Muy explicado, interesante
I replaced it just by removing the serpentine belt😑. No ramps. Pull it out between the fan n that hose 😏. Easy
Not a timing belt dude.
Take off the timing belt lol
Must talk louder
