Im thinking of using an Adafruit Neotrellis for a remote control. It has an 8 by 16 grid of buttons/colored leds. I'll add a simple bluetooth and IMU chip. Ill use it as a midi keyboard as well.
It’s not using rsync, it’s different in a few ways. Syncthing provides a web UI adding and removing devices and works on Windows as well as Linux and macOS. Syncthing is aimed at people who want to set up syncing without too much technical knowledge- if you know how to do sshfs then you probably don’t need Syncthing (imho)
I’ve no problem with using cloud (I use OneDrive, google drive and iCloud myself) - it’s more to do with the ongoing monthly cost, and the privacy concerns some people have around it.
One to watch again when I try sync for myself Cheers

Is that a frontend for rsync?
Wouldn't mounting a remote dir with SSHFS (SSH File System) at ~/live work for what you are doing?

rclone or cifs comes to mind, so what is your problem with accessing cloud or smb storage?
