A magnificent dreamscape…except it’s painfully real. I am a native Californian now living in Austria. I often packed my Tundra and headed out to the deserts for a drive. Highway 395, with no particular destination, for reasons I never really knew. This ambient music captures some of what I was feeling. Peace…I guess. The Austrians have mythologized California. I am starting to understand why.

@@AdventureEveryDay - I forgot to say THANK YOU. Your video was poetic in its simplicity. I was sitting here last night, watching your video, contemplating Austria’s freezing, grey winters, feeling terribly nostalgic about California, my home state.
It took coming here to fully understand that California isn’t just a place…but a way of thinking. I am exhausted, as we all are, with this virus, with this political situation…and now with Putin saber-rattling not far from Vienna.
Your beautiful, artful video was a brief respite from all this craziness. Thanks again! I SHALL RETURN!

Big upcheck. I grew up in the LA area and my parents took us kids up 395 to Bishop on the regular. We vacationed in a conversion van we bought used in 1972 and that was some of the best road trips I've ever had. Memories of the time we went fishing in the Owens River after an overnight snowfall....starved rainbow trout were hitting anything that moved. I think I caught one or two on an empty hook. That was ....checking the photos....48 years ago. No way.

Had a wonderful trip. It was so nice to see again scenery I hadn't seen since 1986. I did stay the extra night. Wanahaa is a great casino. My girlfriend liked the trip too. She moved to California 4 years ago and wants to see all of her new home state. On trips on highway 99 on the way to Fresno she has looked at the mountains to the east and wondered what is on the other side. Now she knows. The beautiful Owens Valley is on the other side. I have lived my entire life in the desert and I love the desert. It is quite interesting just how much variety there is among the different desert regions of America.
