    Hopelessly impractical but still a wonderful thing, and I think the only Stirling engine for domestic use ever bought to market! I would love one!

      Its not, if you have no water its good that you can generate power if you live in a small isolated place with only wood to burn.
      Of course if you have water, steam engines are superior.

    • @leeknivek
      @leeknivek 7 років тому +2

      superior, but significantly more complicated to operate and maintain. always a trade-off - this one is dead simple and pretty robust, if not perfectly efficient.

    What a privilege to own one of these. Does it include a governor to hold it at 50 or 60 Hz?

    Very interesting piece of history. How many watts output?

    • @erm668
      @erm668 5 років тому +3

      180 watts, but consumes 400 ml of kerosene in an hour, so efficiency is VERY low- 5-6%

    some late info. at 4:24, it appear that the pma is belt driven. it is not clear on which side engine output is located. if on the right, the prime mover has negative MA over the load. (Mechanical Advantage) googletranslate

    I can understand using external combustion if you only have low-grade fuel available, but surely vapourised paraffin would be better used in an internal combustion setup.
    So what was the manufacturer's original purpose?

    Hi, You forgot to mention having to change all your clothing due to the smell from the Paraffin vapour. :)

    • @caloric16
      @caloric16  8 років тому

      Thanks Cyril. It might smell less with lamp oil but paraffin is cheaper. I might try your LPG modification on another engine.

      For a few years I used a kerosene heater for my home (Providing a good deal of experience for the following). After using kerosene, lamp oil and liquid paraffin. The kerosene and various lamp oils I tried, simply put, stunk. The liquid paraffin on the other hand was more efficient, burned cleaner and had only a slight sent of a candle burning. Putting liquid paraffin in with the other fuels (50/50) greatly improved their drawbacks for indoor use. I would say stick with paraffin. Less cleanup as well. One question though; I may have missed it, but what is the air pump for?

    • @barumman
      @barumman 8 років тому +1

      AH Glasher ,Paraffin is OK as long as the flame stays alight but if it goes out for any reason the white smoke seems to stick to your clothing which makes the women folk complain .

    • @Glasher1
      @Glasher1 8 років тому +2

      Like I mentioned, I have years of experience with paraffin and I am at a loss at what your speaking of.My heater has gone out from it going empty and yes there was some residual odor, but that wick was MUCH larger that the one here which would seem to create a greater amount of fumes and odor. barumman, I used to purchase paraffin by the 55gal drum and used a small pump to get it out.. Please describe what you're referring to. I would be pleased to hear your experience with the situation you're speaking of..

    • @barumman
      @barumman 8 років тому

      AH Glasher,
      There is no wick, the fuel is sprayed into the vaporiser, if there is a flameout the fuel gives off a white smoke which stinks, you can see it in the video before the blow lamp is applied .

    are you pressurizing the system ? the burner fuel pressure tank

    • @TimeSurfer206

      Pretty sure he is. Seems to be about the same principle as a Camp Stove that uses White Gas or Petrol (Gas, for us Yanks).

    • @stephenwestlake7164
      @stephenwestlake7164 9 місяців тому

      The pressurizing foot-pump was for the working fluid (i.e. hot air). Higher pressures significantly increase power. It self-pumps but priming speeds up starting.

    It is an interesting machine. But stirling engine does not need to generate circular movements to produce electricity. Develope one model like one tube, with one side with heat, it heat can be generated with wood, solar energy etc. Must be interesting develope a modern version of it...

    • @marzsit9833

      the mp1002ca uses the external tubular frame as a compressed air tank, the problem is that it's a bit too small to get the engine started from cold. compressed air is used to atomize the fuel for combustion, but more importantly it is used to pressurize the crancase so the engine can produce usable power. it has a built-in air compressor so once it's running it pressurizes itself but the external pump is needed to get it going.

      Antonio Cardoso Esse é um grupo gerador Sturling que a Philips fabricou em mil novecentos e guaraná de rolha. É um motor de combustão externa, menos eficiente do que um motor de carro à gasolina, por exemplo, mas tem suas vantaens: Dá pra tocar com qualquer combustível ou fonte de calor e é super simples de montar, construir e manter. Espero ter ajudado!
