Personally, I can state that Lexus dealerships treat their customers intelligently and make their customer's purchasing experience amazing. ( Canadian experience) I was shopping around for a different brand after driving Lexus RX for more than 13 years but Lexus' level of service is what sold me again. I was treated in such a way that was above an beyond the other dealerships even in the same German vehicle category. I agree that Lexus design language is not the most modern and I admit that I was on the fence because of it but again the no non-sense approach and amazing customer service is what sold me again. That was more important to me than a nice, modern interior design and a better driving dynamics that plays little role in everyday driving and good ownership experience. Where I am only Porsche dealership had as good of a customer review as Lexus did.
Lexus may not stack up to germans on paper but trust me you need to live with a Lexus to appreciate how amazing they are. I sold my 2020 Merc GLE for a 2013 GS450h and don't miss the GLE a bit.
11:20 don't know why you're acting so surprised, Lexus clearly reports the RX's top speed as 200 km/h. My 2012 GS 450h was a bit faster, it was limited at 250 km/h due to heating of the electric motors but had enough power to go faster. But there's more to driving than just going fast which is why the RX is designed for relaxed driving, fuel efficiency and reliability - three categories where it pounds the German competition into the ground.
You never see a Lexus 3 inches from your rear bumper in the fast lane. Always, BMW AUDI MERCEDES... Jump in a Lexus, calm, relaxed and intelligent thinking... less stress, live longer!
I think in terms of reliability it's a good idea to look at markets outside of Europe like the USA and Australia. There people do big miles, and it's not uncommon to see Lexus's with 300k+ miles on them without a single breakdown. That's why the RX sells so well in the states and why European brands, particularly German and British brands have such a bad reputation over there. Toyota products just work!
Thanks Thomas for another great review. I agree with your reliability assessment. Sometimes this data can be skewed and influenced. Manufacturing has become so standardized that reliability has improved a lot for all over the years. I have to say, you made me rethink this point. Sometimes it's nice to just have the best.
Good car doesn't always mean sporty car. For Big Size SUV like this i think people will go for Comfortable Ride for all people , pack a lot of thing , Realiable and Simple Easy to use. This car i think it is a good car to Own one not to lease and great comfy for a lot of people. I think mercedes should go this way rather than go tech geeky and too sporty , this is old mercedes way with German Engineering (w124, w140 for example) Classy ,Comfy , Luxury , Easy to use , Reliable but not too geeky tech like modern mercedes nowadays.
Plug in hybrids are trash, you either go full hybrid or full electro, if you want functioning efficency. Plug ins are a terrible compromise that almost never works as intended.
@@its_EZ As being a company car driver and having only one car for my family, I think Plug-in hybrids provide best comprimise in terms of benefit-in-kind tax and being best of two worlds. I agree with you however if I would own 2 cars, i would go full EV for my company car. So it really depends on what you really need.
Most fun I ever had was being in Germany (1989 or so) and taking my Dad's Monte Carlo Supersport on the Autobahn. Floored it and buried the needle at 120mph...and it was still accelerating. Backed off as the car felt like it was going to float off the road..lol
I had the earlier model following your last review, absolutely great car. I had the F-Sport although you said at the time not to get the F-Sport variant. I loved my car, hence loved… someone loved it more than me and stole it in November.. I want another one.
@@autogefuehl agree with the relaxed driving view. I want another 1.. there are fewer of these on the road than the German equivalents. Most reliable for sure. I love it.
If you’re OK with lease-hire, get a BMW, Audi or Benz. If you want to buy/own, get a Lexus or Toyota - and also enjoy a good resale price when it’s time to sell 🙂
Super Video!

I think more conservative people or people who just want a reliable car and don't care if it is up to date. But some 50 plus people want an up to date car as well.
The other factor is that this age group likes the quality of service Lexus provides. Personally, I can state that Lexus dealerships treat their customers intelligently and make their customer's purchasing experience amazing. Great review! Is the RX in Germany built/imported from Japan or USA? There are factories in USA and Canada that build them for North American market.....How popular are these in Germany? Keep up the informative videos.
Hi, nice video and like from Australia. To be honest, it is really interesting to see a German version Lexus, even this brand is not as popular as they are in North America here in Australia. For such a heavy SUV, the V6 hybrid engine makes more sense than a 2.0 turbo petrol one which this car offers for sure. That’s why European brands are dominant in this segment as they offer efficient diesel engines.
There are hardly any new diesel ICE cars being introduced into the market now as all major European countries are banning sales of new ICE cars from 2025 (starting with Norway). For countries in Africa, South America, Asia and Australia, European and Japanese car manufacturers will continue selling ICE cars using existing European and US emission technology until BEVs become the norm there.
No the main reason German SUV are popular in this segment is Business lease and image. People who lease or sometimes buy these cars dont care about long term reliability and sustainability because they will buy a new car in 3/4 years. If you buy German SUVs second hand than the financial fun begins. They are money pits
Refreshing to see this brand here but... Lexus needs few diesel engines in their lineup for EU market to be able to compete with germans since 95% of their sales are 2.0L or 3.0L diesels. That alone would dramatically increse market share of this brand.
Lexus rx series didnt even make any significant upgrades in their interior unless in the screen part since 2018, at least it's just a matter of screen size and on the touchscreen only,, thats why the interior looks outdated. I hope that Lexus will apply a new interior in the facelift of the model that is exactly the same as the interior of the Lexus LF-1
Very nice content, subscribed! Love to watch some quality car review content where cars have left side controls as it should be, and possibility to test top speed in natural environment
I almost bought an F Sport RX350, but I just couldn’t bear sitting on top of the thigh bolsters. I’m just 5-9, 165 lbs but unless you want to squeeze your knees together, you’ll end up sitting on those bolsters. They’re soft, but it’s sort of pointless if you sit on them.
don't really understand why they don't introduce next gen RX like what they did to NX... I really like new NX interior and I kept my hopes up for them to upgrade other line ups but they didn't... love Lexus but their interior is major drawback for me
The German three more sporty?? Yes with a big engine but much more expensive too. Lexus is about comfort and not about racing. I like it and it looks better than the GLE and espescialy the Beamer.........
Wonderful car imho. Old school is sooo much better than current trend for touchscreen and hi tech interfaces which drives ones nuts (no pun intended) as they are a million miles away in terms of interactivity and sensation. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. But each to their own. I can understand why someone spending a lot on a car may expect lots of electronic bells and whistles. Not for me. Love tech but touchscreen-heavy cars? Nope.
I have been watching your videos for years now and they are great! However, is there a reason you never tell us what happens with the cargo cover when removed? I know some vehicles can stow it and some can’t. This is important information. Please include it. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Software etc klar outdated.
Love Lexus cars, but I don't like their way of thinking about practicality. For example, the ES has no foldable rear bench, no accces to the boot from the rear and no estate version (same story with the Camry). The RX is a big car, but has a small boot for its size.
Danke, Thomas! ?: Have you seen automotive designer Frank Stephenson's critique on the latest design language for Bayerische Motoren Werke?? Most interesting!
So much better than BMW X5, Mercedes GLE or Audi Q5. The most reliable SUV with outstanding performance of the 3.5L atmospheric engine and hybrid drive system. No turbochargers or fancy electronic that make you stay in the garage every 5000km and spend half of your salary. You just bay one of those RX and drive free like a wind. Reliability of RX is notorious. This is the best selling SUV in the US and Canada.
I don't understand the bit it says Germans are better in terms of noise insulation. I test drove Q5 and GLE and tuareg before buying RX 450 h. I was impressed by its quiet cabin and super comfortable driving exoerience compared to Mercedes GLE. hence no brainer to get Rx. Ido confess infotainment system in lexus is really bad compared to the Germans.
I’m surprised that the signal stalk is on the left side for LHD. All of the RHD German cars, the signal stalk is on left side. I wonder is it due to cost cutting and compromise this orientation?
British cars (wheel on the right) used to have the indicator on the right also so you could change gear and indicate with a flick of the finger. This was gradually changed from the late 60s as it was cheaper not to bother moving it when converting from left hand drive to right hand drive for UK market (+SAF, Aus, Japan etc)
@@richardlionheart3965 For UK and Ireland this is true since their cars are EU spec but for other RHD markets cars locally produced will always have indicators/turn signals on the right stalk. Like in Indonesia, Japan or Thailand for example the Toyotas and Hyundais, etc. will have the indicator stalk on the right and it is similar in Australia.
I have the F Sport from 2015, there are too little improvements to buy this one, in 7 years they did almost nothing this is unbelievable, they were sleeping while Tesla was killing it. @@pwelele Lexus comfort and reliability are solid reasons to stick with them. For me, Toyota was taking too long to make an EV so I left. @@Curryolla yes I totally agree with you, it's a shame they took so long to really commit to EV cars. I would have chosen the Tesla model Y too if I couldn't wait 👍
Surprising with how popular it is how dated the interior is. The graphics and infotainment is quite out of date, also. This one needs updating and an EV version to come out soon.
these lexus cars are nifty, but too boring for me, its the type of car to get if you are someones aunt, grandmother, maybe just someone who is uninterested in cars. or you already have a hardcore sportscar sitting in the garage waiting for spring, and need some general purpose appliance to go A to B, but I adopt the strategy of having only one car so it needs to be more enthusiast and just barely daily-able enough that I can drive it all the time throughout the year
I don't get it.. as this is a driving review, WHY do you not demonstrate using the steering wheel shifting paddels to let us see if this adds to the CVT's function/ driving pleasure in a good way or not?!
Same basic stying since 2016 . Seems Lexus is resting on their reputation for reliability and holding on to this outdated styling with minor updates. They should realize that Kia and hyundai is no longer in their rear view mirror but they are in Lexus blind spot about to overtake them.Lexus spend the money and hire new design teams however hold on to your reputation for quality, durability. This basic design has been around for 7 years and has become very boring and uninspiring. I use to look forward to jumping into my RX but not nowadays.
LEXUS: “Let's put animal skin just to piss off Thomas.” Come on, Lexus. Animal free interior throughout, not just some trims and some places. You're falling behind. 🙄
My experience (2018 RX 450h) is that reliability is good (once you get the fuel pump recalled!) But fit and finish is nowhere near rivals. Rattles and squeaks are pronounced issues after a few years owning, probably because the RX is such an old design. It badly and obviously needs a total refresh IMO (which we should hopefully see with the new electric Lexus reveal)
@@dragospahontu For me it's the driver side behind the dashboard, dealer eventually located a 'loose air duct' which fixed the issue for a few months but it has started to come back again. The passenger-side leatherette trim can be moved back and forth, no squeaking but it looks a bit cheap if someone moves their leg against it. A bit of plastic cladding from the moon roof has also fallen off.
@@dragospahontu My 2016 BMW 4 series was totally solid in terms of structure and trim, just poor materials for some of the switchgear (rubber that wears off - which they have improved on the 2018 versions onwards) and ducting in the convertible roof that clogs up and needs cleaning. I also rented an Audi Q5 just prior to getting the RX and the structural quality just feels better. But I'm pretty sure this is because the RX is an ancient design and modern technology will help create a better vehicle.
The big problem with Lexus IS the styling..old, dated, awkward and mostly ugly. I like the quality, the service, owning one might be special but the gearbox has been dreadful and the interior colours often pure 1970’s. It is a car I nearly like but could never own.😐😐😐
Yes Thomas, agree. I think you buy Lexus for fit, finish, reliability and customer service and that's fine. They are own and keep vehicles.

Interesting feedback!
Lexus may not stack up to germans on paper but trust me you need to live with a Lexus to appreciate how amazing they are. I sold my 2020 Merc GLE for a 2013 GS450h and don't miss the GLE a bit.
👌
What a surprise! I did not expect a review of the RX this morning!! That will be the vehicule that will replace my current Nissan Murano, no question,
11:20 don't know why you're acting so surprised, Lexus clearly reports the RX's top speed as 200 km/h.
A lot of the Hybrids are limited
You never see a Lexus 3 inches from your rear bumper in the fast lane. Always, BMW AUDI MERCEDES...
Jump in a Lexus, calm, relaxed and intelligent thinking... less stress, live longer!
Very interesting car with a very particular appeal, and an enjoyable watch!
Would love to see a review on the XC60 facelift when available.
we will !
'The beeping.....it has to be loud, 'cuz a lot of old people buy these. But seriously, having had a RX 350 in the family, it was super-reliable.
=)
Very nice addition of the colour view while describing the cockpit. Good editing :)
glad u liked it =)
I think in terms of reliability it's a good idea to look at markets outside of Europe like the USA and Australia. There people do big miles, and it's not uncommon to see Lexus's with 300k+ miles on them without a single breakdown. That's why the RX sells so well in the states and why European brands, particularly German and British brands have such a bad reputation over there. Toyota products just work!
Good point!
Thanks Thomas for another great review. I agree with your reliability assessment. Sometimes this data can be skewed and influenced. Manufacturing has become so standardized that reliability has improved a lot for all over the years. I have to say, you made me rethink this point. Sometimes it's nice to just have the best.
thanks Ralph!
Excellent review Thomas. Thank you!
appreciated !
I really love your take on reliability. Validation. 👍
I agree with you, Thomas, too many beeping alerts -- would drive me nuts!

Great review as always! Can't wait for 2022 NX review. Also hoping any time soon a review for Honda Civic hatch/sedan. Cheers!

Good car doesn't always mean sporty car.
For Big Size SUV like this i think people will go for Comfortable Ride for all people , pack a lot of thing , Realiable and Simple Easy to use.
This car i think it is a good car to Own one not to lease and great comfy for a lot of people.
I think mercedes should go this way rather than go tech geeky and too sporty , this is old mercedes way with German Engineering (w124, w140 for example)
Classy ,Comfy , Luxury , Easy to use , Reliable but not too geeky tech like modern mercedes nowadays.
Great review as always! Really looking forward to have the review of new NX 450h+ 🙏
Plug in hybrids are trash, you either go full hybrid or full electro, if you want functioning efficency. Plug ins are a terrible compromise that almost never works as intended.
soon !
@@its_EZ plug in only worth if gov give rebate. Like Canada quebec offer 13k rebate. Plug in cheaper than hybrid standard package.
Most fun I ever had was being in Germany (1989 or so) and taking my Dad's Monte Carlo Supersport on the Autobahn. Floored it and buried the needle at 120mph...and it was still accelerating. Backed off as the car felt like it was going to float off the road..lol
Biggest difference with ES is the engine. V6 sounds better, is more effortless and works better with the eCVT gearbox.

The japanese are smart. They add more displacement and cylinders instead of forced induction.

I had the earlier model following your last review, absolutely great car. I had the F-Sport although you said at the time not to get the F-Sport variant. I loved my car, hence loved… someone loved it more than me and stole it in November.. I want another one.
Oh 😧
@@autogefuehl agree with the relaxed driving view. I want another 1.. there are fewer of these on the road than the German equivalents. Most reliable for sure. I love it.
If you’re OK with lease-hire, get a BMW, Audi or Benz. If you want to buy/own, get a Lexus or Toyota - and also enjoy a good resale price when it’s time to sell 🙂
Thomas being very honest here 👏 thought he was going to trash that lexus.

Super Video!

Lexus exactly knows what is the target market for each of the model :) for RX the majority is 50+ y.o. who really likes this old school.
( Canadian experience) I was shopping around for a different brand after driving Lexus RX for more than 13 years but Lexus' level of service is what sold me again. I was treated in such a way that was above an beyond the other dealerships even in the same German vehicle category. Great review! Is the RX in Germany built/imported from Japan or USA? There are factories in USA and Canada that build them for North American market.....How popular are these in Germany? Keep up the informative videos.
Cheers! Oh tough question
For EU market the RX is built in Japan.
Yes, all EU Lexus are made in Japan. All the better for it!
ES and RX has the lowest db noise recorded at 54db.
At what speed? He might have a point about noise at autobahn speeds. Almost only Germans that think about noise level at 220 km/h.

RZ450 is the new way to go!
Hello,
What your opinion between the Lexus SUV and the Kauai N30 SUV?
Hi, nice video and like from Australia.
To be honest, it is really interesting to see a German version Lexus, even this brand is not as popular as they are in North America here in Australia. For such a heavy SUV, the V6 hybrid engine makes more sense than a 2.0 turbo petrol one which this car offers for sure. That’s why European brands are dominant in this segment as they offer efficient diesel engines.
Best greetings!
Maybe that was the case, but it is not anymore. Meanwhile plug-in hybrids are sold more often than diesel in Germany
Personally not a fan of thier design but Lexus is king in ireliability.

The German three more sporty?? Yes with a big engine but much more expensive too. Lexus is about comfort and not about racing. I like it and it looks better than the GLE and espescialy the Beamer.........
this car has been available since late 2015, remember that!
good on you Thomas

Love Lexus cars, but I don't like their way of thinking about practicality. For example, the ES has no foldable rear bench, no accces to the boot from the rear and no estate version (same story with the Camry). The RX is a big car, but has a small boot for its size.
yeah ES should have folding bench
the top speed should be 200km/h according to the constructor not 180km/h as the previous NX

? The signal stalk is always on the left side on LHD except for some unique quirky cars/super old cars.
signal stalk is always on left all good!
I have the F Sport from 2015, there are too little improvements to buy this one, in 7 years they did almost nothing this is unbelievable, they were sleeping while Tesla was killing it.

these lexus cars are nifty, but too boring for me, its the type of car to get if you are someones aunt, grandmother, maybe just someone who is uninterested in cars. or you already have a hardcore sportscar sitting in the garage waiting for spring, and need some general purpose appliance to go A to B, but I adopt the strategy of having only one car so it needs to be more enthusiast and just barely daily-able enough that I can drive it all the time throughout the year
If you prefer enthusiast machines, give up on the SUV form factor. We haven't found a way to bend physics.

Very popular model for car thieves.

“Let's put animal skin just to piss off Thomas.” Come on, Lexus. Animal free interior throughout, not just some trims and some places. You're falling behind. 🙄

@@autogefuehl Thank the gods. I still wish that was the case everywhere.

Lexus actually does really lovely animal free seats.
Really? What rattles?
@@dragospahontu For me it's the driver side behind the dashboard, dealer eventually located a 'loose air duct' which fixed the issue for a few months but it has started to come back again. The passenger-side leatherette trim can be moved back and forth, no squeaking but it looks a bit cheap if someone moves their leg against it. A bit of plastic cladding from the moon roof has also fallen off.
@@TChighbury damn that sucks. It seems to me that all modern cars are made to be cheaper to assemble.
