These were some great airliners. From what I understand they first flew in the 1960’s and Air North flew these up until 2021. That is a long life and had to be good planes. Thanks for sharing

This aircraft has the RR Darts like the Vickers Viscount had. The difference between this aircraft and the Viscount, is the sound of the props is somewhat more audible over the whine of the Darts. On the Viscount, the sound of it's props was virtually inaudible. The Viscount sounded much more like a turbofan than a turboprop.

I wonder how the props make different sounds? There is fabulous Viscount prop screw sound in the Beatles song “Back in the USSR” and I was always amazed with the twirling airscrew sound of the Viscount props, so the sound is very much audible there, I think. At the very end of the song last 1 or 2 seconds.

No, I was just filming these airplanes at the airport cause I’m an aviation fan. This would’ve been filmed probably 10 or 15 years ago.

Wow, the backdrop of YVR and the Fairmont looks so different from today. I laughed at the guy trying to stop the propeller. Do you know if the sharper the prop blade, the more efficient it is?

I believe that, but I never actually thought of it until you mentioned it. I did not notice any physical change of the Fairmont hotel, but I believe you on that too.

Why is the Dart so noisy? "The noise you hear from a Dart engine is the high pitched whine of the low pressure compressor rotating assembly. The reason for the noise is that the tips of the rotating parts are virtually travelling at supersonic speed."

Thank you so much for letting us know. I had no idea .. all I know is that I love the sound.

That ground crew ‘handler’ on the second landing appears to have a death wish. Fail in so many ways in the casual way he went about everything, no ear protection, and as for grabbing the still rotating propellers he should have been given the sack for his own safety!

Your observations are very interesting as I didn’t catch any of that. I guess they could use this video as a training film of sorts to show what not to be doing. It was a long time ago now, so who knows whatever happened to that fellow .. I hope he’s OK.

@@JetFlix In my younger days I worked at a regional airport in the UK which was very busy with turboprop aircraft. It also had a maintenance facility for Vickers Viscount 700/800 series. It was a familiar sight & sound to have up to 3 Viscounts starting up simultaneously as they went about their way that's 12 RR Darts in unison (earsplitting!) Other turboprops on the ramp daily would include Dan Air 748's on commuter routes plus Nord 262, Handley Page Herald (twin darts) Fokker Friendship (twin darts) KLM & Aer Lingus regional and charter Bristol Britannia's so a lot of whirly prop action going on daily. I never in my five years in the early 70's saw ground handlers or engineers with such a casual attitude to safety as that chap. All I can say was he might have been employed on a casual basis untrained and unaware of what his actions might ultimately produce! I noticed that some of the ramp staff were equipped with ear defenders. Even today there are the occasional fatalities brought about by personnel walking too close to turbofan engines with devastating 'shredding' results, there are videos online showing the results... 😑
