I've heard that the Alundras were pretty good, but I've not tried them, nor do I have the funds to try and acquire them, but they are on my list at numbers 930, and 931 respectively.
The first game is considered one of the best "zelda"-like yeah, and it still holds up extremely well. I did try to play it a couple of times back in the day but always ended up stuck after a few hours so I gave up. Got it on Vita 2 or 3 years ago and it's one of the best experiences I had on the system. I think this type of games is perfect for handheld consoles, so I played its sequel last year on PSP. This one is generally considered to be a piece of crap, mainly because of the 3D graphics which weren't very good, even at the time of its release, especially for the characters. Also because the plot has absolutely nothing in common with the first game, I don't believe they even take place in the same universe, so naming it Alundra 2 gave people expectations it couldn't meet. But otherwise it's exactly the same type of gameplay, action-rpg with puzzles-filled dungeons, I highly recommend it to people who have a soft spot for RPGs of that era.
My friend's been telling be about this one, it's actually surprising to see voice acting in a PSX square game, I always thought they didn't do voice acting till the beginning of the PS2 With Bouncer, FFX and Kingdom Hearts
I know they had voice acting in Bushido Blade (and presumably its sequel), and I think one or two others, but those were games from square's brief stint of being creative.
It was around that same time they also made Parasite Eve 1 and 2, those however didnt have voice overs which is odd considering how it was heavily influenced by resident evil games
Well given what Final Fantasy devolved into after 6, I think it's safe to say Square just wants to make movies, which the one time they did, ended terribly, so now we're stuck with games that just want to be movies, and everybody loses for it.
I know what's gonna be my summer action rpg.
Well it's definitely a good one!
Played Alundra 2 last summer and had a blast, I'm hoping it will be the same with this one!

Yes? I do a lot of research on games, so there's a vast number I'd like to acquire, to talk about eventually.

Wish they'd remake this one.

True, they were probably just experimenting with VO which would lend itself to its own inconsistency.
Yeah and they didn't do it afterwards for a good few years anyway. I guess they liked pretty fmv's more than voice acting.
