"And, at last, the village people show up..."
*Young man, there's no need to feel down*
😄 I'm dead
A funny bit of info that everyone seems to miss is that the song Come Little Children is actually a poem of the same name by By Edgar Allan Poe with the only change being the replacement of the word "shadow" with "magic".
I love black cats. Just adopted a 2 year old kitty a couple days ago. She loves belly rubs and chairs
Making the dangerous villains funny is a common thing in fairy tales, ogres, giants, trolls all have gotten the funny treatment. People mocks what they fear. The classic universal monsters are more often seen in comedy skits than in horror movies, Lovercraftian stories are made into funny musicals and so on.
Great review by the way.
You should be very VERY proud of that village people joke 😂
It's a family tradition to watch this film each Halloween. I have a soft spot for this movie.
Also the Nostalgia Critic did a review on this movie too...And you frankly did a better job. You addressed pretty much everything he did, but actually reviewed it in a way that's informative and entertaining, without annoying skits.
Plus it's kind of refreshing to here the opinion from someone who actually likes the movie enough to put effort into it, as opposed to the Critic, whose "REVIEW" is bare bones, only addressing minor elements of the movie as a whole, while you actually go in depth and address things.
You have no idea how good it feels to read that thank you very much.
Well I mean it, I admit I'm not the biggest Hocus Pocus fan, that's more my younger sister's deal. However, it does still have nostalgic value to me and I can tell you enjoy it and put serious effort into this review.
Critic may have more subscribers but you clearly showed more effort here. Only wish more people saw that.
This movie has a huge following... at Disney in Orlando, for their Halloween Events, they do a huge Hopus Pocus musical number outside The Cinderella Castle... it’s awesome! It’s like the Halloween party they crash...
Barf! That guy seems to hate stuff... and now he just reviews early 2000’s flicks i never saw nor ever want to visit... glad i found this channel...
Nice review dude :)
"Wench! Trollop! You bucktooth, mop riding, firefly from hell!"
Brian Ebner sorry if I breathed on you
lmao FIREFLY FROM HELL LOLOLOL
The three little girls that steal the brooms always made me a little uneasy as a child. What happened to them? Did they figure out how to land? Did they crash and die?! It really bothered me not to know
lmfao XD
I don’t think they have the witchly magical skills to allow them to fly
@@controlZchannel the sound effects suggested otherwise
They were accepted into Hogwarts
They suffered a fate worse than death: they were contracted into being in multiple direct-to-video Disney films.
Me and my cousins watched this twice in the theater, bought the Betamax tape of it (yes, grandpa owned the Sony player and the trinitron tv we used to watch this movie), and even the DVD---all lost during the flood in the early 2000s
I love the quote "my name ain't Ernie no more..its Ice" I just makes me laugh every time
It's so bad, that the line is good
I love how virgins are so feared and mocked at the same time
Full Moon on Halloween this year!
Ah, a true classic.
Brutal and yet still kid friendly.
Silly and yet still retaining a sense of peril.
A perfect Halloween movie for the family.
Shame they don’t make “family” movies like this
Give it time. Good art always comes back around.
Too much nostalgia of the past can make one not appreciate new art.
On the subject of why Zachary never spoke until the candle was lit, my theory is maybe they tied the immortality spell to the candle, making it so only when the candle is lit can Zachary speak again.
I know that just raises a lot more questions but it would atleast help explain a few things.
The Fan Without a Face That's what I assumed too because when Thackery is first transformed, he just hisses at the witches instead of yelling. Also, he jumps around and meows at his father, but never speaks to him.
An alternative explanation is that the curse has an additional effect that prevents him talking until a specified condition has been met, such as the witches coming back to life, and even then he might not be able to be heard by anyone older than he was at the time he was cursed or by people who don't wholeheartedly believe in magic, which might explain why he initially just hisses at the witches; the kids were still in shock and weren't totally convinced what they were seeing was genuine, therefore they couldn't hear him and we, the audience, could not either.
23:48 Dark for a Disney film? Are you kidding? Do you know know how many Disney villains have died utterly gruesome deaths throughout countless Disney films. The psychos at Disney are masters when it comes to sugar-coating graphic depictions of karmic sadism.
IAmTheUnison Ursula: stabbed
Clayton: hanged
Evil Queen: crushed by rock
Need I go on?
@@demontorch The Horned King: sucked into a caldron piece by piece.
Scar: EATEN ALIVE (easily one of the most gruesome deaths in a Disney film).
Claude Frolo: probably burned to death if he didn't die from his fall...
I think the child murder is the dark part
I rented this movie so much as a kid when the video store closed they just gave it to me!
OMG!!! So glad to see you've reviewed one of my favorites! Hocus Pocus is a Halloween classic.
It's still Dawn when Thackery gets to the house. You have to remember the house was in the woods, it's darker as tall trees blocked what little sunlight there was
I always assumed the sister at the beginning of the movie drank the potion because she realized, "I live in 1800-and-whatever, I'm a girl, and my village is full of idiots. Death is preferable."
I always assumed her reaction to her brother was a lapse in the trance she was in. If she weren't in a trance, she would have tried to make a run for it when her brother jumped in and distracted the witches.
Just found your channel, love your reviews! Reminds me of the Nostalgia Critic like 6-7 years ago when his reviews were actually good and not riddled with skits and overacting nonsense.
Big fan over here, your reviews are both comical and you bring such an original perspective to each film. Also, I could totally listen to your voice all day.
Thank you very much I really appreciate that, if you enjoy my voice i can recommend my audio book narrations on the channel
I actually had a theater class with Tobias, the guy who played the long-haired bully. Nice guy, good actor, was in the first season of Stranger Things.
Keep it up...your reviews are awesome, subscribed.
Super cool review, love your reviews.. I do have to mention I did watch an entire documentary at some point about this movie and it is explained that Binx could only talk to the kids because of the magic and because they brought the witches back, the parents (at the dance) weren't able to hear his voice, so they explained that to others he was just a normal cat, hence why his own parents only hear meowing as a well, and they also explained that the witches were made to be like the female 3 stooges on purpose because it wasn't common for women to have comedic roles at the time so it was an actual deliberate choice...etc.... I like what you mention about Max being the princess though that was a good catch, never thought of it that way. Thanks for the cool reviews!
Glad you enjoyed that video, I would say The thing about the cat is legitimate criticism though because its still a huge misstep to not have an explanation in the film, Can't really judge a film by what it intended only what it did.
I remember watching this in school as a kid, 6ish. The fixation on virginity now makes me very surprised they let us watch this. I'm betting the teachers weren't paying attention and just went 'Disney! It's fine!'
(I'm not saying I find this inappropriate for kids as that's rather mild, but we weren't allowed to watch the Princess Bride in middle school because of the chastity belt jokes.)
Kids stuff in the 70’s and 80’s was edgy... and being a virging was a common trope... from Last American Virgin, Porkys, to this, Clueless... list goes on....
well, I guess now we have our November main event
i love how terrified yet confused max is when billy starts ranting
Everyone missed the full moon on Halloween on 2020
Sadly
YESSSS! ANOTHER REVIEW. MY DAY IS AWESOME.
Wearing tights, being 15, that's going to be an awkward Halloween for both parties
Simple comedy and will always be in my top 5 favorite Halloween movies.
Thackery could only speak after the witches came back maybe...
Just noticed the stitches on the zombies mouth make "XIII" aka the death arcana
More likely just 13 being a stereotypically unlucky number. Anyone that knows tarot knows that Death doesnt actually mean physical death. It's a changing, a passing on, a letting go of the old to transition forwards. But tv looooves to just "pull the death card" as a cheap attempt to add spoop by be all "oh no you're gonna die!" Something like that would be more likely a result of The Tower than Death, but even then, it's not very specific. And that's if we're only focused on the major Arcana.
Sorry. Ever since I started studying tarot years ago, I starting getting very perturbed by misused symbolism in tv and movies that only tangentially relates to a vague aspect of a card, instead of doing 5 minutes of homework lol. Tarot is fascinating, and more media should put just a tiny bit of effort into promoting it properly.
For what it's worth, when it comes to the little sister insulting him because he's a virgin, I'm not sure she *does* know what that means. She just knows it's true, and knows it bugs him, so she calls him a virgin.
Yeah. Also since they are white American kids it’s likely they had been to church: the term Virgin Mary gets thrown around all the time in churches.
This is the best review of this movie I have seen :)
I just realized something about this movie that makes me love it more.
Witches were found in Salem and they were hanged, which is how they would be executed at the time and not burned at the stake, like so many other Movies/TV shows would do.
Points for being one of the few that get it right.
Yeah, it funny how many things get that wrong.
Jay and Ice. Salem’s own Bulk and Skull
I will always laugh when they scream after the girl says bless you. That will never not be funny lol
Would you be willing to review The Witches?
Big G Or the Craft!
Leonardo DiCaprio was originally the choice for Binx, but turned the film down for his 1st Oscar nomination in “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape”. If you look at Sean Murray you can see the near resemblance
I love this film and vinessa was my first crush
I always felt on edge as a child knowing Max had years taken away from his life.
that tank/healer j0ke g0t me g00d
In the beginning it starts off in the morning and as Binks runs through the woods it gets dark by time he gets to the cottage you could argue that the woods was dark as night because of the evil the witches possessed it isn't strang for movies to have evil characters in places devoid of light.
Forget the microphone... How do the witches know the song!!?? Haha! I'm WAY late to your channel but been watching like crazy in 2020, really digging it! It was also cool to happen upon this to find out about 2020's Halloween Full Moon! Commenting after the fact but came back to give props
This movie was my childhood, I used to rent it back to back to back from the video store! 👌
Are you going to be doing The Watcher in the Woods, Something Wicked This Way Comes and The Haunted Mansion for future episodes?
Those are not something thats on the schedule currently, But you're welcome to visit and have a look at the Patreon page where all movies requests are received, www.patreon.com/DeusdaeconReviews
I love this movie. I know it's silly, but I love it. It's a Halloween staple in my house alongside Practical Magic.
18:00 omg the add that popped up after he said "oh my god" was perfect! It broke into an add for the new chevy! OMG YES!!!
Thats really weird cause i make a point of not putting ads in the middle of the video, sorry about that anyway.
Deusdaecon Reviews oh its okay, i was laughing through the whole thing because of the timing
Deusdaecon Reviews also, one of the scariest things possible is an idiot with power. Typically for two reasons
1. Set laws often dont mean anything to someone who dosent know them, making their efforts unpredictable.
2. They may not know exactly what will happen, or how to control it, making them dangerous to all around them.
Childhood memories❤🤗
The necronomicon you say? Quickly get me my chainsaw, my broomstick and my Pablo.
Sarah Jessica Parker looks hot as fuck in this movie.
nodinitiative I'm not a Lesbian. but you are right. she is pretty
The only piece of media with her in it where she's _not_ ugly.
i think shes pretty hot in ed wood, maybe its the black and white lmao
I liked her better in Seabiscuit.
Love this movie. Thanks for your perspective. I've learned as an Adult that Disney movie are actually pretty morbid not really not for kids. Then again fairy tales are pretty dark.
Its 2020!. I'm gonna be looking for that full moon on Halloween.
Well... they do tend to murder parents and such... alot. Although Disney did leave out most of the... forced sexytimes... from the original versions of alot of the stories they... borrowed... from.
Billy's reaction to Winifred is basically a constant case of "This bitch..."
Halloween week. Time to watch this again
"oh no! she's running into the woods! We'll F*** it. she's done for."
Aahhhhhh shit full moon on Halloween this year???
Lets hope we make it that far :D
I love this movie. Watch it all the time especially during Halloween.
I think there's a theory that the reason Winifred turns to stone is because it's a last-ditch effort on her part for self-preservation, hence why she doesn't explode like her sisters: she still has a body that may be able to transform back into living flesh.
Princess MAX!
Welcome back.
I had no idea that a young Timothy McGee was in Hocus Pocus. If you don't know who Tim McGee is watch NCIS and take note who plays as him. Now I really want to see an NCIS/Hocus Pocus crossover.
Ooh its 2020... Imma love this 🎃 Halloween
The words to the song, Come Little Children, were written by Edgar Allen Poe.
hey decon Marsden also appeared in a tales from the crypt episode where he played one of the teenage boys going after a homicidal mortician.
Im a fan of teen titans
5:40 Who else is watching this review on Halloween 2020? ^^
20:49 Even as far as Disney villains go they are a little too ridiculous. Captain Hook and Yzma are perhaps the most comically inclined Disney villains, and even they were more threatening. XD
that's not evening, the forest is just thick....and evil
Me, "Bless you."
Brother, "Ahhhhhh!"
I think you can play up to 10 seconds of a song without risking copywrite infringement
Fucking love your reviews man!!
And i love that you enjoy watching them, thank you
Deusdaecon Reviews honestly, so much better than most the stuff on UA-cam. Like I actually care what your review will say because of the effort you take with it. Great job man, anything I can do to support let me know
I appreciate that, and the best way to support the show is just by watching commenting and sharing the videos, I have a patreon page as well which is naturally a more direct way of supporting the channel www.patreon.com/DeusdaeconReviews
When I was younger I had a crush on Sarah
Same when I was 13 years old.
Since Binx could only meow after first transforming, I always assumed that it just took him centuries to learn to speak again. But it is a plot hole, because he could've just told people about the witches and book preventing them returning.
imagine a remake for adults that watched it as kids but with a r rating lol
I know the last comment was over a year ago. Just an interesting tidbit. The guy playing "budget Satan" is Gary Marshall. Who was a very prolific director, producer, writer and actor with a career spanning almost six decades. His wife was played by his daughter, Penny Marshall, who is also a prolific director, producer, writer and actress who's career is only seven years shorter than her father's. It's not a throwaway scene. Those are some big names who just did this movie for kicks.
Brother.
Not father
let's see oh three witch treaters died in a flying broom tragedy!
"And, the bullies are still in their cages...good." Good, indeed.
Wow great review video. Being brutal and giving praise when warranted. It's so easy to just look at the negative things of a film or story and use it as an excuse not to try to enjoy it. Glad that you give it a good review at the end of your video!
Maybe you should review 9 ( animated film that came out 09/09/09) it’s not a horror movie but it is a very disturbing movie
Great Classic Halloween Movies
I saw this movie when i was alot younger ...30 now ......and one thing I think is still the same ......... Sara is a WILF (sara is the hot blonde witch right?)
yeah sarah is the blonde one.
do teen witch
Irony.... the song Sarah sings to lure children I sang for an audition.... which I got. The movie is silly but fun. I was the Disney princesses little sisters age when I saw it the first one and loved it. It is a Halloween staple in my family.
So this Halloween the witches will appear because is full moon... We just need a virgin, woow it is so exiting!
A Virgin in 2020? Sooo, an InCell? O.O Good God.
I'm dead, then
Holy cow!
Great film!
2020... Huh, what a year...
SJP is gorgeous in this movie, a crush since childhood
It's funny you made the joke about the witches are like a D&D party because the main characters of the horror TV show I'm writing eventually turn into a D&D party somewhat lol
Still my favorite halloween movie
I love this movie!
Darry from Jeepers Creepers looks kinda like Max. At least Max didn't get his eyes removed from the back of his head.
They walked into the sunrise...
Thats not Social Distancing O.o Also ouch.
Did I miss something or is the main guys name actually zachery just with a very strong lisp added on.... thackery really
It actually comes from the word thatching cause it mean "a place with thatching" it is an alternative to Zachery
Not much cause for celebration in this 2020 Halloween, I'll tell ya 🌕🎃
I have a theory of why the witches acted stupid. I think their intelligence decreased because of a side effect of the resurrection. I learned that magic has a price.
Zachery is on ncis
Such a great movie. One of my gf and I's favorites.
Yes, 0 consistency with the witches. Confusion with Zachary ( not talking to anyone ever but these kids). And so on. BUT as we can agree, it's a great fun movie.
necronomicon ex mortis not just necromonicon
+sin Brown The ex mortis part is from the evil dead series, H P Lovecraft just called it the necronomicon.
Deusdaecon Reviews What's The Begginnig music
The Book from The Evil Dead was original called Naturom Demonto, it wasn't called the Necronomicon Ex Mortis until the Second Movie.
Look at me from DIE SHE SAID
You should review Disney’s Mr Boogidy series it’s as brutal as hocus pocus just not as popular
Bro why is it 2020 as I’m watching this and it’s been a shity year so far. I don’t feel good about this full moon
