I get kinda frustrated with the Em argument against Joe. I watched all the episodes of Everyday Struggle daily. He was trying ever so hard to hold Em down for weeks while everyone else was killing him. To the point where I was frustrated with Joe for not speaking his truth on Em sooner. He was sounding like a Damn homer for like 3 weeks on that show trying to avoid the Em conversation. He finally spoke up when the shit dropped, said his piece, admitted that he hasn't heard the project in its entirety and yet has to defend his opinion on some shit he didn't even hear all the way through. He didn't betray Marshall. He was paid for his opinion and honored his obligation to share it. Joe should listen to the project no doubt for obvious reasons but he's not wrong for being blunt with his opinion.

When it’s bars that are being rehearsed ahead of time, whether literally typed up on a phone or just put together in the MC mind and spit accordingly once the instrumental is on. In the culture, it isn’t wrong to call bars which have been put together and then spit a freestyle.. it’s just a different definition to the more strict sense of the word back in the day where it’s literal bars coming at the same moment they are being spit. For an MC familiar with that sense of the word, an exercise I’ve seen used a lot is to spit 8/16 based off a word that someone comes up with. So a 16 using the word “banana” ... wether that’s used as a theme for the bars or bounce other words and metaphors off the original topic word .. an exercise in quick witted composing bars and lacing a beat spontaneously ..
