My son die slowly from cancer, when the time came closer. Eventhough he was hooked up to everything I put earphones to his ear and played hero. They thought he couldn't hear anything they were wrong. I had a very dear friend of mine sing this song to my brother at his wedding. It was the perfect song as my brother had come back from being lost to drugs and alcohol. He made peace with his sisters and was truly getting his life in order. However, this was to be short lived. He relapsed and that time he fell into the grips of meth and alcohol. That time he didn’t come back. Eventually, he had a severe stoke at 67 and passed at age 70. It broke my heart in a million pieces. Dave was a believer in Christ Jesus, so I am certain that I will see him again, and I can hardly wait for that moment. He will always be my hero. RIP David. You are truly free now❤️✝️❤️

I'll never forget when I driving home at night during a tough time in my life. I became stuck in a vortex of deeply negative and suicidal thoughts. I wanted to crash my car and end it. Meanwhile, I was tuning out the radio this entire time, until suddenly this song came on. I hung on to every word. I also put a little more effort to get home safely. When I arrived home, I broke down and listened to the rest of it before going in the house. This moment was a miracle, and it brought me closer to God. I felt like something, someone sent this song in my darkest moment as an answer. And I'm so thankful this exists.

I hated myself so much but there was a little hope inside me for a better future, whenever I heard this song.

I really love this! This is Mariah Carey singing live in 1993 at Proctor's Theatre. She performed this live for the first time during a small concert at Proctor's Theatre in Schenectady, New York, as part of her 1993 Thanksgiving special for NBC. In her 2020 memoir, The Meaning Of Mariah Carey, the singer said it was the first time she realized her popularity. Upon arriving at the venue, she was surprised to see police officers and barricades and wondered if there was something wrong. She was shocked to learn they were preparations for her throng of fans. Despite releasing two hugely successful albums, Mariah hadn't understood the magnitude of her work. Her movements were tightly controlled by her husband, Tommy Mottola, and she spent most of her time in the studio or in seclusion at their mansion in upstate New York. She wrote: "He had my life, but I had my music. It wasn't until that moment in Schenectady that I began to realize the degree of my popularity. I had fans! And soon they would become another source of my strength."
The Schenectady concert was also released on video as Here Is Mariah Carey in 1993. The "Hero" segment was also used as the song's music video, directed by Larry Jordan. I sometimes forget how strong her voice was when she was so young!

This song was released in 1993, so it came out when I was 10 years old, and I first saw it when I was 13 years old. Now I'm the head of two 41-year-olds. It's still one of my life songs I listen to in the car when I go to work. I think this song would have received a lot of love even in this day and age, and I think it's so sophisticated that it's unbelievable that it's a song from 93 years. I think it's a song that will continue to be talked about in people's memories even after 30 years. I am a South Korean person on the other side of the world. Mariah can support lower in chest and higher than her in headvoice, she's more agile, she can transition between every registers much faster, she has a better technique, better resonance, better support and resonance in belts especially in upperchest, has the best whistle register ever known, master of every technique, staccato, appoggiatura, trills, intentional break, growls, melisma, she can change the textures of her voice to sing any musical genre and this applies to every register, including Headvoice and Whistle register, uncompable musicality and versatility. Plus she's one of If not the best songwriter of all time, brilliant producer and composer. Whitney was just a singer, many people already have duplicate or outsing whitney in her own songs like Glennis Grace or Belinda Davis but no one can close to Mariah. This performance of "Hero" outshines all her live performances. I like how thick and rich her tone is! The first minute of the song is my favourite part and sounds incredible, she sings softly but with plenty of soul and emotion! Her belts are grounded and rich, and head voice sounds like Whitney with that straight tone and ending it with vibrato!! The runs / riffs incorporated in her head voice at the end of song was creative and not oversung, showcasing great musicality! Hero is one of my favourite songs, thank you Mariah!
