When I arrived home, I broke down and listened to the rest of it before going in the house. This moment was a miracle, and it brought me closer to God. As a victim of child molestation and sexual abuse from the age of 5, I grew up feeling like I was trash. I was lost and hurt with no one to tell my story. There were times that I would have welcomed the thought to end my life but "Hero" became an anchor for me. Mariah spoke to me through this song in my adolescent years, and I realized that I am not trash but capable of doing great things if I could just find my way to my core. There is no dream too big, no happiness out of reach because each day brings hope of achieving these things. As a victim of child molestation and sexual abuse from the age of 5, I grew up feeling like I was trash. I was lost and hurt with no one to tell my story. Mariah spoke to me through this song in my adolescent years, and I realized that I am not trash but capable of doing great things if I could just find my way to my core. There is no dream too big, no happiness out of reach because each day brings hope of achieving these things. We are made into what we are not by our circumstances but by the choices we make despite the odds. Thank you Queen MC, even at 40 this song never fails to bring tears to my eyes. I hated myself so much but there was a little hope inside me for a better future, whenever I heard this song.
