I sadly don't have the ability to comun with the dead or take to deities like some of my friends. But I have always been drawn to those like Anubis, Hates and now Hel sene delving in to the Norse pantheon.
I've never heard of a death wicth this is the first time I've ever heard of one. I don't tend to enjoy labels as much. I've been diving into working with the other side a little more than usual. Things have gotten chaotic in my life recently and I'm starting to fear the living people around in my life more than I am the actual spirits in my life.

I have dug into the mystics a bit about 6 years ago alone, in the middle of nowhere, in silence besides 3hounds as companion. Found a ritual tree and did the deal with candles and salt.....Years later coincidently dear peers died. And then I would find dead Animals every week. Like park my truck at a gas station and a dead bird would be at my feet. Then the next day I would be working and alone would find a dead kitten on a jobsite in the middle of a doorway...that went on for weeks and weeks. So much that I would begin to ignore it. Then it suddenly stopped. But it still makes me wonder.....I am now researching on the more fabled magic..any tips besides give you money 🙃
I once read that when gou invoke a Deity it becomes one with your soul. You inherit the traits of that spirit or Deity. But, being in North America what's it like working with spirits that are on land once inhabited by native people? I have a variety of questions it would be interesting to understand your type of work more. I am interested to know because of my own heritage as anishinaabe. Alot of our ceremonies are similar to what you speak of. We invoke spirits, we pray to them to help us in many ways. That's what our cultural ceremonies revolve around of.

The Majority of books I’ve read aren’t explicitly witchcraft books! The Egyptian Book of the Dead is one that’s important to me, but that’s because I work with an Egyptian Death God haha I also liked Caring for the Dying by Henry Fersko-Weiss
