Magzhan Zhumabayev (1893-1938), was arrested and sent to prison under the Soviet regime. In the prison, they told him his wife had left him. He wrote this song about his love and his sadness. It turned out that his wife never left him (he had been lied to) and they were reunited in 1936, when he was released from prison. Unfortunately, their happiness did not last long, he was again arrested and executed in 1938 as an enemy of the state.
In a backstage interview he had also explained that, regardless of whether he progressed further in the competition or not, it was very important to him that he be able to honor and share the music from his country as his way of thanking everyone for their support. They even arranged to have members of the Kazakhstan Orchestra brought in to share the stage. That's a true professional, and someone appreciates sharing his pride and gratitude for the opportunities from the show.
