I feel like if you are looking a synth that has "that sound". As in when you think of synths what are the sounds that pop into your head. This and the Prophet 5/6/5 v.2 are that sound. Dave Smith and Tom Oberheim are the dudes that invented the sound originally and Sequential under Dave Smith has faithfully keep the tradition alive to this day. Sure they are expensive, but all other feel like hollow imitations when they try to achieve what is possible with these fine instruments.
Even though I wasn’t really tempted to get either during 2016, I have a very happy memory of playing both this and the Prophet 6 at my local Guitar Center during that year. Found myself launching into a deep cut from the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack by Rockie Robbins titled “Emergency“, one of my favorite cuts from that soundtrack. The key touch, aftertouch and presets that I selected from each model were all big and creamy.
Just listened to the Behringer OB-xa sound demo back to back with this…no comparison. The former sounds cleaner, less character and depth. Sounds I could probably coax out of my Deepmind 12 .. This, however, is god tier. My dream analog synth. Hope to own one someday.
I’d suggest go listen to some matrix 6 demos first. Could save you $1500. Only missing the great interface like this ob6 has. But the m6 is def a great budget oberheim . Can’t go wrong with either but after listening I’m going matrix 6
Finally a beautiful demo by someone who can actually play with musicality instead of an "expert" turning 20+ knobs to discover new electronic farts....
@@kendoshusmiller9137 If you care about presets THAT much, I don't think a synthesizer is right for you. Go get a Roland or a Nord.... And honestly, most presets on synthesizers are trash. It is up to you to get creative, learn the controls, and design your own sounds which 99% of the time sounds better anyway when the proper time is spent programming.

Yes, these are factory presets and some custom sounds. I’ve deleted all the sounds that i didn’t like from 0 to 499 and saved only the sounds i like most. The factory sounds are duplicated from 500 to 999 so i’ve lost anything ;) but they are presets only saved to a different number on ob6 ;)
I don’t find any of these sounds you’re playing. Where are all the patches that you’re playing? I can’t seem to find any of them? What am I doing wrong?
It sounds wonderful as a solo synth...BUT in a mix it would eat up the whole frequency bandwith, so you have to EQ it hard and then you lose the rich sound. I'm just speculating, lol.
Easier to cut away at the eq than to try and add character that isn’t there. This is my struggle with my DeepMind 12 and the reason I’m saving up for an OB-6.

Ma se devi fare accordi e suonare i bassi a sinistra e gli accordi con relativo arpeggi o soli a destra... li la quinta ottava ci vuole. Se no o ti mancano i bassi, o ti mancano gli alti. E poi dai.. anche l'occhio vuole la sua parte. hehehehehe
Ob6 demos should bypass the fx. Unlike the P6, the Ob6 signal is converted to digital when the fx is enabled. The converters are shit, and when combined with mediocre digital fx, the machine sounds closer to a glorified V.A. synth. Bus it out to some separate fx to hear the amazing analog beauty of this unit.
@@N-trepid1 If you like it dont listen to my dumb ass 😉. I'm more of a purist though, and i can def hear the conversion. A lot of people want to hear analog sound on demos to justify the price, and it doesn't do it justice there when it goes through the effects IMO. If you like the way the effects sound, use them of course. But if you ever try running it through external FX it will blow you away how warm it can sound. I'm a little obsessive though.
Alpha Milk Recordings Can you explain to me how a conversion to digital done by the FX of the OB-6 is noticeable? Because the sound we are hearing through UA-cam is digital ofcourse. This has always been a mystery to me.
@@jimvandersteege Same reason you can hear the difference between an OBXa and a plugin even though UA-cam is all highly compressed digital. Every little step affects tone. Every conversion, every process, everything in the signal path. Digital can do a pretty good job at taking snapshots of analog material. Hence the reason why analog stuff sounds great even on UA-cam. In the case of the ob-6 converters, its just one more extra step that sucks life out of the tone. Try this experiment. Take an ob-6 and set both the effects to dead zero. Then flip the effect switch on and off even though there's no effect. You will literally hear the conversion suck the life out of the dry tone. On the prophet 6 there is no conversion into the fx section - they use an analog summing circuit instead - which is superior and definitely audible.

Beautiful sounding machine. The only thing that pisses me off is that is hasn’t a 5 octave keyboard.
When you play it, 4 octaves are enough because the synth is absolutely amazing!
