You may not want to spend the money on this but, If you replace the rusting bolts with stainless bolts, they will not rust. You don't have to let the bolts actually get wet to rust. Just being in a damp enviorment will make them rust. As far as nuts and bolts becoming loose, keep a bottle of BLUE locktite on the bike. You don't want to use the red stuff, unless you never want to remove the bolts again. As far as the paint bubbling goes, it seems the tank after it was painted was never sealed with a barrier coating like clear coat. And as you know gas will disolve alot of things. That includes soft unprotected paint. Heindl Engineering's videos on you tube are a wealth of information for Ural's.,,,
Hello, I don't have any answers for you (thinking of buying a new Ural myself sometime in the future) but was curious if you're a member of any of the Facebook Ural Groups (i.e. Soviet Steeds, Ural: Ural Riders and Lovers)? Sure if you upload your video there, you'll get a lot of support/answers. There seems to be a lot of informative/passionate Ural owners there.
go to the Soviets Steeds Forum! The Facebook Group is fine for ratchet jawing, all the good stuff is already in the forum...more enlightened discussions over there too.
Rather than buying one, I would recommend you dig a hole in your back garden and throw money in it, then poke your eye's with a sharp stick ?!?! Far less painful than being a urinal owner 😣👍🏴
Your parking brake issue sounds like you need to adjust it at the caliper. There is a 5/8 inch bolt that you remove, pull off the bracket with your cable, turn the shaft to the right until it stops, then back it off to the left a distance of one of the splines, put the cable bracket back on the shaft and put the nut back on. This will adjust the rear pads as they wear from use.Look up Heindl Engineering, he is a Ural dealer and has a video on how to do this and several other videos. You don't want to adjust your cable too tight, you will pull the ends off when you apply the parking brake and will have to replace the cable.I have a 2019 Gear Up, no problems with it.
Thank you for your comments. As I learn more about Ural I found out that as the rear brakes wears out the hand brake needs to be adjusted. So to me is not worthy of constant adjustment. I just simply not use it after the rear brakes wears out.
Have 3 Urals currently, 95 Sportsman w/BMW Engine, 2011 Retro with 108K and a 2019 GearUp, had an evil 2015 M70 that is a dealer in New England's problem now. Lock-tite is your friend. Tightening bolts, while not as critical as it used to be, so something that still needs to be done regularly. It's a Ural, want perfection and no character? Get a Honda. They have tried many ways over the year to make the paint around the trunk stay. Good luck with that. None of my Urals have had that issue around the gas cap, makes me think there is some methanol or something else more caustic than normal getting in there... If under warranty, get the to the dealer. Get in touch with Jason at IMZ in Redmond for help. Are you adjusting the parking brake at the caliper? That is the only way to adjust it, adjusting the cable at the handlebar is a waste of time. The adjuster at the caliper also adjusts the rear brake and helps with balance between the sidecar and bike brake. Get out the 5/8" wrench (yes, it is American so it is SAE, as are the 3/8" allen bolts that hold it on) and take off that nut, remove the cable and turn that wheel until it just just has the brake pads touching the rotor then back off just a hair. Put cable back on, and whatever else is there too (changed from year to year) and put the nut back on... You may have to take some of the cable adjustment you made out to make it lock in place afterwards. May I suggest reading, really reading the owners manual and what geckoboy40 said about sovietsteeds (the forum, not the facebook group). Do I like them, traded a perfectly good Harley for the 2011 and sold a really nice R90/6 rig to finaince the resurrection of the '95...and got the '19 after the horror story that was my '15... yeah, I like them a lot.
You are right, it is a hobby. Not sure about it being a strange one... Many people like unique motorcycle. In this case a Ural is both unique and not so reliable. This will make me either poor or a great mechanic.Good luck on your purchase.
It’s unreliable bike but I’m still buying it as soon as I can travel back home in Philippines as my girlfriend will be coming with me…package deal as she is Russian…..

Thank you, great ideas thank you. Stainless bolts, I wonder how expensive they will be?
If you replace a urinal bolt with a stainless steel one it voids the lunchtime warranty !!!!! And double the value 🤣😂

Does anyone cares about Instagram?
instaBlaster...
This ok.
Strange hobby. I mean buying a new Ural. Respect. I am planning to buy Ural 1979 (of my age) for diy. But i ready to spend 300 - 400$. Not more.

Hello
My friend, this is Russian bike and it must be an answer to all Your questions about quality...
I have no question. Quality is not as good, but I like the bike anyway.
Also it needs to be remembered that these bikes are built by partially blind alcoholic inbreads who only get paid in potatoes ! 🙄
Ja Ja Ja
And try and find a sober sighted repair/service mechanic for later models !!! Nearly impossible...

Почему дно ведра должно быть гнилым, если ведро новое?
