Christmas trees | New House

The tradition of decorating trees is older than Christmas itself. Even before Christ, practically all cultures and religions used to decorate trees with ornaments for different types of celebrations.
The Romans, for example, adorned the trees in honor of Saturn, who was the God of agriculture.
In Egypt it was the habit of the population to bring green branches into their homes, as a way of celebrating life.
The first records of the Christmas tree adopted by Christianity appeared in northern Europe in the early 16th century. The first documented use of a tree in the Christmas and New Year celebrations was in the city square of Riga, the capital of Latvia, in the year 1510.
According to some sources, the first person to bring a Christmas tree into a house, as we know it today, may have been the 16th century German Protestant monk Martin Luther. The story goes that, one night before Christmas, he was walking through the forest and looked up to see the stars shining through the branches of the trees.
He thought it was so beautiful that he went home and told his children that the scene resembled Jesus, who left the stars in the sky to come to Earth for Christmas. Then, to reproduce the beautiful scene he had witnessed, he took a tree home and decorated it with candles.
However, the popularization of the Christmas tree happened more intensely in 1846, when royalty, Queen Victoria and her German prince Albert, were illustrated in the London newspaper with their children around a Christmas tree.
