They're using a Type 95 sword in this scene - the type issued to non-commissioned Japanese Army officers. It appears to be an authentic vintage sword from the World War 2 era, not a reproduction. One sign of the authenticity of the piece is that the paint has worn away from the Tsuka (the hilt/handle) and the aluminum is exposed - this is common with these swords, since they are now about 90 years old (the paint doesn't stand up to wear and age). Unlike commissioned officer's swords that were manufactured from actual swordsmiths, these Type 95's were mass-produced in military arsenals (usually from the Tokyo or Nagoya arsenals) and the blades and scabbards (Sayas) had matching serial numbers. Also, unlike commissioned officer's swords, the Type 95 had a solid cast-aluminum Tsuka where the hilt and end cap (Kabutogane) were all one piece. The Saya (scabbard) does not look original to the sword - it looks to be in too good of condition. The Saya was either not original to this particular sword, or was restored/repainted, or could be a reproduction. Still, it is painted authentically - the Type 95 aluminum Sayas were usually painted either olive drab green (such as the one featured here), or were painted brown. I would appreciate any additional comments from Japanese Shin-Gunto collectors/aficianados regarding the sword featured in this scene - anything to add or correct regarding my comments? And, I do appreciate the movie director utilizing an authentic sword for this scene!

WOW! This is great theatre! 😊 Both of these ladies are beautiful, and skilled, and it is great fun to watch! 😊 However, there is also quite a few things that are wrong with this, or certainly could have been done better... Some might say that this is 'Chinese Propaganda', but if it is aimed at a Chinese Audience, and they enjoy it, then it was obviously worth the effort! 😊 I really enjoyed it too! 😊 Sometimes you just have to suspend your disbelief and enjoy what you are watching, otherwise you become a critic and only know how to criticise! 🙄😐 Heck, Korean Dramas are replete with anti-Japanese programmes and messages. Also, what are James Bond and Ethan Hunt if not 'We are the greatest' propaganda statements for the UK and USA respectively? 🤔😊 As a Martial Artist who practices AIkido, I have to say that I LOVE both Kung-Fu and Japanese Samurai traditions; ALL Martial Arts are deadly in the wrong hands... My main complaint about this is the disrespectful lack of detail to the 'inferior Samurai'. Any 'Samurai Master' worth his or her salt would not be seen dead using the obviously cheap duplicate replica's that both ladies use. (Check out the bent nails on the sword near the guard (tsuba) when they show a close-up shot of the hand-grip, lol.😊) A 'Samurai Master' would use a proper beautiful and deadly japanese Katana as the serious surgical tool of her trade! To disadvantage the Chinese Lady by giving her a cheap sword whilst the Japanese Lady gets to use a proper and mighty cutting instrument would surely have been more believable, and more fun, when the Chinese Lady gets the upper hand! 😊 A missed opportunity methinks! 😊 Also, although the fight sequence is generally well-choreagraphed, some parts are a let-down. In the final act of the fight, the Japanese Lady wants to come at the Chinese Lady from behind, presumably to split her in two 😊, before her boss shouts "Enough!", but she holds the sword like she is about to use an axe for chopping wood! 🙄😐 I did really enjoy the theatre and the banter of this scene; 'We're Best!' 'No! We're Best!'... 'OK, Lets fight about it! 😊'. When you accept this for what it is, then it is delightfully done and full of humour. 😊 (I laughed out loud as the cunning linguist of a Script-Writer has one of the Ladies say "You have a nice tongue!" 😊 Hilarious! 😊) I love also the way that right from the off you suspect that the Chinese Kung-Fu lady is obviously much more focussed, and then as soon as the Japanese Lady loses her temper, well, you know there is only going to be 1 winner! 😊 I think this Chinese TV Series is called 'Blade Dancer' and I will now watch it from the beginning, but in order to really enjoy this I think I will watch it and just accept it for what it is! 😊
