    Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"

      Andre The real concern is whether big news channels covering American politics will drive Late Show comedy channels out of business. Look at that competition. They don't even need to try to come up with fresh jokes.

    • @Ivan-dq2xj

      ***** At this point they should just add the suffix of "with Donald Trump" to every major news network, or get Trump his own talk show, where he discusses the things he's said two days ago.

    Expecting Kasich to stay in Ohio, and knowing Carson wants Secretary of Education and Trump has mentioned Cruz as Attorney General, I'm expecting either Newt Gingrich (political experience) or Rand Paul (brings in a lot of votes). Trump hasn't sparred much with either, Gingrich has more or less endorsed him and Paul quickly bowed his head. Both have a lot of experience and clout; Gingrich would be like Richard Cheney 2.0 and has a lot of negatives, but Paul is young, attractive, and libertarian, which would help to sway Bernie voters (assuming Trump adopts some Libertarian policy positions) if Hillary gets the nomination. The biggest reason for Paul is to lock down the possibility of a third-party challenger - he'll hit the Libertarian Nominee's base hard, and if it makes Trump look more moderate then an independent run from someone like Romney doesn't have many voters left to steal from Trump, he ends up just hurting Clinton.

  • @REAL2222ful
    @REAL2222ful 8 років тому

    It's ok... I mean, Americans celebrating Cinco de Mayo is equivalent to Mexicans dressing up for Halloween (yes, that happens). Some people like excuses to have fun on given dates.
    But yeah, Trump capitalizing on this is kind of ironic. He hates illegal immigrants and wants to toll his wall on us despite the fact that there are loads of Central Americans rushing to the US (who are, by definition, not Americans). He topples his finesse with a commercial about his restaurants with offering a dish that it's not familiar to us at all and hanging on to Cinco the Mayo (our conmemoration of a hard fought battle against the greatest military of that time), a Mexican, not "hispanic" date. This is wrong on so many levels....

    • @OtakuOujo
      @OtakuOujo 8 років тому +1

      +Jorge de los Reyes Halloween isn't exclusively American though, it has it's roots in blending of the old Celtic festival of Samhain and the Catholic festivals of Hallowtide.

    • @REAL2222ful
      @REAL2222ful 8 років тому +1

      ***** Specifically, Halloween is something we kinda copied, rather than developed. We call Hallowtide "the day of the dead" and yes, it's a christianized tradition of the "pagan" mortuary rituals celebrated by some indigenous cultures conquered by Spain, but we did develop that ourselves, as a mixture of pre-hispanic and Christian traditions. As far as I know, never did the any Mexican culture have any exchange with Celts whatsoever.

    • @OtakuOujo
      @OtakuOujo 8 років тому +2

      +Jorge de los Reyes the theory is that the Celtic practices were absorbed into the official Church so as Catholicism spread so did the Celtic influence but as you mentioned other cultures had their own day of the dead festivals so the Celtic influence in those cultures kind of fell by the wayside in exchange for the indigenous practices of the locals - that's the theory anyway :-/
      anyway my point was can you "copy" a holiday that technically exists in both cultures? Halloween as we know it in the US is just how we adapted certain practices - I mean kids would much rather have candy than small sweet breads telling them to pray for people in purgatory -as was the old custom- I'm sure. I probably would and I like sweet breads :p lol

    • @REAL2222ful
      @REAL2222ful 8 років тому

      ***** On a second thought, we also do set up Christmas trees like, I assume, most Catholic/Christian countries do, and that tradition screams of Nordic culture; so there's that... :P
      We have also imported our own traditions and taken them out of context. For example, it's common for kids to break a piñata (that now come in all sorts of forms, being made out of newspaper and paste as opposed to the original made out of adobe, which is some sort of clay), on their birthday parties but that was originally a Christmas tradition; the original piñata has a circular shape with 12 horns sticking out (being an allegory for Satan). Culture changes with time, indeed.

      Jonp This issue has little to do with education. People are tired of the bullshit, but at the same time they lack logic and reasoning to give them direction. Look at Black Lives Matter. A disgusting black supremacist movement that evolved solely off the misinformed surrounding the Michael Brown shooting.

      Jonp Sure Trump talks out of his ass and he's going to hire other people to do the grunt work, but did you know Ron Paul has a chance to be his secretary of state?

      +Elek Valkyru The same Ron Paul that early this year said Trump was a "dangerous authoritarian" and "the opposite of a libertarian"? The same Ron Paul that said Trump and Clinton are the same? Well, maybe he's suffering blackouts...
