Thanks so much for posting this ' Tribute' of her now in my favorites collection .
What an excellent story and presentation. I am amazed this ship never broke its back in the high seas due to its length. Quite a testament to the design engineers. 👍
I had the memorable experience of loading from this tanker when it was known as Seawise Giant. My vessel was London Glory, a mere 140,000ddwt. She looked like any other tanker from a distance but as we got closer it just got bigger. Dwarfed us as we lay alongside her stbd side. That was offshore Mexico, late '70s or 'early '80s.
You do not truly appreciate the size from pictures alone as I did, until I served on ULCCs and was berthed and anchored close to her - she just dwarfed us and we were big! (or so we thought).
Thanks for posting this video. It was so sad that the sea wise giant has been scrap. Truly this is the biggest ship ever built and no ship ever came close to it when it comes size and length. Longer than the empire state building of USA. If this massive sea vessel did not sunk during Iran-Iraq war well this vessel still running today.
It wouldn't be sailing anymore. The law changed and single hull vessels aren't allowed anymore. So it would be scrapped anyway because it didn't get a new license.
@Sid so you're saying you live without any modern day things? That would be a tall order you realize. No phone, electricity, heat, air conditioning, use of anything plastic, no man made anything. Clothing, food, housing, and you never been or used a vehicle? Highly doubt it! First you have a phone or computer. You are using electricity and batteries. So quit being selfish and critical when we know you're not. You are here making comments aren't you? So Sid you're a fraud! Just face it you're just like the rest of us depend on modern technology and times. You idiots are a dime a dozen! Buh bye. Like your own comment too. I'm sure of it. Pathetic

Thanks for the upload, it was fascinating, educational and sad in equal measure.

What’s amazing and not the subject of this video. They now paint the decks of tankers white rather than the old red they used to. The difference in temperature of the deck because of the reflective ability of white. The lower the temperature the less evaporation of product.
Suleen Kulkarni it’s all about the $$$. The white paint keeps the temperature of the oil lower, and the lower the temperature the less evaporation through venting. Another positive effect is that it much easier to spot leaks of black oil onto a white surface.
I hear that Lesotho is planning to build a ship twice as big. They want to use it in their planned canal/harbour that will run through Mozambique. Yes, Google it.
