I am really glad to watch an informed video review that understand the new Mazda3. All the North American reviews are just screaming non-stop for a MPS/MazdaSpeed 3 like whiny entitled babies, even thought the US and Canadian Market already get an 2.5L 186HP petrol engine. And then many UK based reviews are dissing Mazda and kissing up the Ford Focus and VW Golf. For me the design is just ace. I honestly don't think Mazda designed this to be a family hatch, but rather a practical coupe. The exterior of the 5-dr is almost like a GT coupe/shootingbrake with its long bonnet and short boot. And no fake vents! The interior design is very driving-focused with few gadget distractions. As for the "Ford Focus like handling", the engineering credit should go to the Mazda MX-5. It's almost like an Alfa Romeo but with Japanese quality control and reliability. Personally I can't wait to see when the Skyactiv-X engine gets official data on it's outout and fuel consumption figures.

Great review. So good to actually get objective information about the car on the road rather than just a list of specifications interspersed with a close up shot of the glove compartment(s). Thank you!
You make some of the very highest quality reviews online. The professional approach and wide angle of covered areas about a car and its ownership are very valuable. A Dutch car magazine tested a Mazda 3 SkyActiv G 122hp 213nm on a dynometer. Results are 140hp 219nm, No chiptuning. Still prefer a N/A 2.0 than a small downsize engine. Better gasresponse at higher revs. And no small turbo that only boost at low revs. Besides Mazda's manual gearbox is one of the better ones. I respect Mazda that they don't follow the downsize trend.

Excellent proper review. I have been very happy with my 2015 Mazda 2 with the 115bhp engine and you soon get used to the non turbo driving style with power delivery a lot more linear. With perfectly positioned pedals for heel and toe and nicely weighted steering you feel like you are in a drivers car rather than just a tool to get you from a to b. Road testers have got used to turbos so driving a non turbo suddenly feels very odd but live with the car and you soon adapt and I dont need to rev the nuts off it to make good progress. I want a 3 skyactive x as my next car but prefer the greater control of a physical handbrake over the electric button which is becoming more normal sadly. Will have a test drive to see how I get on.

Fantastic review! Very in depth and unbiased. None of the 8 minute overview of a car which is becoming the norm. That actually really annoys me, given how much of an investment a car will be.
Looks an amazing car and this review provides a huge amount of information but the one thing they don't mention surprisingly is Mazda's great reliability. I would of thought a mention of data from the reliability index and perhaps owner satisfaction sources to give an expected reliability level. When you add that in the Mazda 3 seems possibly with the Honda Civic the best options in it's class by a long way for those who just want to buy the car and enjoy it and not spend huge money after the warranty period. For those who sell within the warranty period fair enough but some might keep the car 5 years and long term reliability is then much more important. Also the Mazda engine technology seems to be designed around reliability, superchargers tend to be much more reliable than turbo's which again adds to the cars long term reliability and dependability and lower running costs. I also feel the internal cabin of the Mazda 3 seems to be designed around resembling a sports car cabin. The great handling and thick rear pillars with less than ideal rear visibility mimic many sports cars. With its amazing styling, great handling, superb cabin and strong reliability and decent pricing it just seems like a fantastic car option especially with the terrific paintwork options. No I am not a Mazda dealer but just seems a fantastic car. With their great reliability reputation surprised they don't offer a 5 year warranty, it doesn't look like it would cost them much to match Toyota.
Fabulous in depth review. I had already short listed the skyactive x GT auto as my next vehicle. Fully loaded and exceptional quality in the cabin for the price. You would think there would be at least one USB in the rear seating area. Not a deal breaker though for a premium hatch 👍
Great review! Thank you! I believe it is the third time I am watching it. It certainly helped me to make a decision. :-) I've ordered a saloon in this exact colour which should arrive in April.
Another great review, I sometimes find myself watching OSV reviews of cars I'm not even interested in just because the reviews are so good!!, one minor niggle though the OSV logo at the top right of the screen is way too prominent, so much so that the reviewers' head is hidden by it sometimes!!
The rear of this car looks much better in person than on the screen, the camera just cant show the proportions of the car right. It is much lower than it seems
You should really opt for the new SkyActiv X engine if you're able to. That engine is amazing and brings you that bit of power you're missing in the SkyActiv G engine. Also: less fuel consumption for 180 horsepower and that for €950,- more. It should really be a nobrainer choice imo.
Though I love the Mazdas I think calling it a family hatch is a big stretch. At 197 centimetres tall with my seat in the driving position there is no room even for a child, also boot space in hatch is nearly half that of the saloon (according to official Mazda measurement and not reviewers measuring up to the roof of the hatch because it isn't legal to constantly obstruct your rear window).
To be fair coming from an older 2L petrol (a volvo C30 with the old 2.0 Duratec lump with 145hp) the SkyactiveG I found to be not too bad torque-wise. Below 2000 it did feel a bit weak, even though on paper its stronger there, but the mid-range seemed on-par or even slightly better. Where it fell down for me personally was the top end, the duratec in my car does like to rev, and the Skyactive G though willing, couldn't just pull to the redline in the same fashion. But personally I preferred it massively engine-wise to the much torquier Seat Ibiza I also tested. The turbo torque was great, but the throttle response I found to be quite annoying, especially if you have to quickly pull away. Does make me very keen to try the Skyactive X though! I'm sure it still wont have quite the same low down pull as a a focus, but the sharper response and (on paper) decent mid-range pull should be exactly what I'm looking for.
Oh Yeah. Just waiting for something more than 122PS. That's the only motor on offer in my market. Does not do the styling justice. 180Ps would be better suited to that great body.
@@Chukwu1967 agreed! And even that 122 hp 2 liter is extremely weak the displacement in mind. A modern turbocharged 2 liter should make at least 180hp, and that would be a weak number for a 2 liter. Perhaps Mazda it's time to go for turbocharging..

The car is indeed beautiful and high quality, but there is one thing that bothers it: the new shape of the steering wheel. The coating is of high quality, but the profile is not round (tubular) as before, and therefore is not comfortable in any position of the hand, but in a very specific position. The uncomfortable grip makes driving uneasy. It is a great pity that they abandoned the "universal" form that suits every driver and every position.
Another great review. It seems there's a lot to recommend this car, but it's unfortunate that there's no estate model. That could solve rear visibility, rear access and headroom issues, and I'd buy one, even if nobody else would ;) There's a very good reason to go with the diesel if you live almost anywhere else in Europe other than the UK: diesel is considerably cheaper!
Why is there no grey leather in the hatchback version? Why is it just the saloon? A bit annoying, the all black interior whilst nice is a little gloomy.
Hi there, if you live in the UK our team will be happy to look into this for you. Get in touch on 01903 538835 or click here to book a free consultation at a convenient time - bit.ly/3soFVbF
My Mazda 3 2 litre X engine is absolutely bloody awful for fuel economy, currently showing just 34 average mpg. I have now developed a rooted aversion to the words MILD Hybrid. If you want diesel economy buy diesel, not the Mazda 3 2.0 X.
I yearn for foglights or something adding detail in the lower quarters of the front bumper, the styling otherwise does work quite well on these bigger wheels, but I just saw one today at a supermarket car park and it does look quite bulbous with the regular wheels you'd get at a reasonable spec.
This is a great car, but it's a real pity you didn't review the "sedan" version because it looks (according to the majority of buyers) much better and avoids all of the rear packaging issues.
Karl P only in America, Europe doesn’t buy small sedans. VW used to sell 106 Golfs for every Jetta sold in the EU, yet in the USA the Jetta is Vw’s best seller no car.
Funny how he mentions the ford focus often when here in the U.S. it was a horrible car. Ford was sued over transmission issues related to the focus and fiesta. The focus isn't held in high regard here. Nice review though.
It was only horrible because of the automatic transmission. The manual transmission Focus is and was excellent, which is the biggest shame that Americans are too ignorant, lazy, or just plain simple-minded to make the right choice to get the manual gearbox. Same with the Fiesta, great with the manual option. And this is coming from an American! I blame my fellow Americans for not getting the newest generation of the Focus here, because had they wisely chosen the manual transmission, there would be thousands of happy customers, not angry ones that are bitter at Ford.
I reckon the quality of this car is better than Ford Focus. But Focus is a bit cheaper (some countries perhaps not), and Focus in st line should feel a bit sportier. The 184 ps 3 zylinder engine feels sporty, but its not an skyrocket comparing to mazdas 2.0 180 ps engine (naturally aspirated).
Beautiful car....terrible for a family! Kids would get terrified in all the darkness at the back, no ventilation in the back, no charging, child seats are a nightmare to install. Also, you can't see out of rear side windows if you are small, adults cannot see what is going in in the back until their eyes get used to the darkness after looking out the front of the car.
Nice car... But needs more engine option's. Under powered diesel 1.8, no Hybrid, no MPS version as in nothing over 200 HP.. The competition has more options and that is what will down Mazda again.
Ford sells virtually no cars. Chevrolet, Toyota until you get to the Camry, same. Nobody really wants a VW if you have an option since they are sincerely rubbish to keep up-typical German maintenance oriented cars. Good luck with your reviews.
Now THAT'S a review. Thank you.
Thanks Gheddon 👌

Why not the sedan though, greater visibility, bigger boot and more rear legroom, and it’s arguably the better proportioned model this generation.

The coating is of high quality, but the profile is not round (tubular) as before, and therefore is not comfortable in any position of the hand, but in a very specific position. The uncomfortable grip makes driving uneasy. It is a great pity that they abandoned the "universal" form that suits every driver and every position.
We were always talking about a bullet... now this is one.
Nice!
Thanks!
Which one will you choose toyota corolla 2019 or mazda 3? Please reply

@@rivervalegroup thank you so much. I will wait for your reply
Valito Cardoso mazda 3
Mazda all the way specially the new 3. I just love this brand now more than ever.
Mazda !! 3 2019 or 2020 very good car !
Another great review. It seems there's a lot to recommend this car, but it's unfortunate that there's no estate model. That could solve rear visibility, rear access and headroom issues, and I'd buy one, even if nobody else would ;)
There's a very good reason to go with the diesel if you live almost anywhere else in Europe other than the UK: diesel is considerably cheaper!
Andrew Sowerby the cx30 is the model designed for your needs.
@@69memnon69 but I'm not overly keen on SUVs. I'd have to put it through its paces to see how it handles first.
Diesel here is like 1.70 whereas unleaded is 1.30 a litre
@@appletree4433 where is here?
Andrew Sowerby Australia lol. Brisbane is always expensive
MANUAL!
This is my car but in sedan soul red crystal but with a Skyactive G--- 2.5 litre engine (G25)
Why is there no grey leather in the hatchback version? Why is it just the saloon? A bit annoying, the all black interior whilst nice is a little gloomy.
sexy car
Can you get a spare wheel with the Bose sound system? Same question for the CX-30 if i may.

You know you can't see the front of your car when you are driving right?
@@aural_supremacy Yeah, what's your point? Some people choose their cars with their heart, not just their brain.
This is a great car, but it's a real pity you didn't review the "sedan" version because it looks (according to the majority of buyers) much better and avoids all of the rear packaging issues.
Was there a poll done on that?
@@domzbu Yeah, it's called sales
Karl P which are?
The sedan looks like any old dull sedan 🤷
I blame my fellow Americans for not getting the newest generation of the Focus here, because had they wisely chosen the manual transmission, there would be thousands of happy customers, not angry ones that are bitter at Ford.

mazda 3 the best !!!!!!!!! :) :)
Great review as always. It's subjective of course but the hatch looks ugly to me , especially the rear looks like Daewoo from years ago.
122hp on a 2.0 litre is pretty poor but otherwise a fantastic car. The old Honda 1.8 pushes out more power albeit at high revs.
Are the autos that bad?
Ford didn’t own Mazda they had a 33% controlling share in Mazda which they sold in 2008.
Is this better than a 1.5 ford focus ecoboost?
Hi Paul, thank you for the feedback. These are interesting points that potential buyers should take on-board.
Nice car... But needs more engine option's. Under powered diesel 1.8, no Hybrid, no MPS version as in nothing over 200 HP.. The competition has more options and that is what will down Mazda again.
Hi there, we've also received the Mazda3 Saloon in case you'd like to watch that! ua-cam.com/video/JrmLYdyoOWs/v-deo.html
Ford sells virtually no cars. Chevrolet, Toyota until you get to the Camry, same. Nobody really wants a VW if you have an option since they are sincerely rubbish to keep up-typical German maintenance oriented cars. Good luck with your reviews.
