Hi there! Gavin started speech therapy at 2 and within a few months he was saying new words. He's 3 now so he's had a whole year of speech therapy which I think really helped him. He has tons of words now but he doesn't use them all the time! He recently got diagnosed with autism so in our case his speech delay is from that. I just put up a video about his speech update if you'd like to view it 😊

I Have A Son Who Turned 2 Years Old July 9th And He Doesn't Really Talk He Will Say Mum/Mom Daddy/Dad And Gotta Go And Stuff Like That But Not Really A Whole Lot If He Wants Something He Will Come Get Me And Drag Me To Whatever It Is He Wants And Points And That's It He Will Not Try To Talk Which I Know As People Call It We Talk For Him And That's Not Good And The Doctors Said The Would Like Him To Start Speech Therapy Since He Is Over 2 And No Repeating Words He Should But Not Said Anything Else To Us So I Was Just Curious When Was Your Son Diagnosed With Autism And How Did They Know To Diagnose Him With It? If You Don't Mind Me Asking And Answering I'd Really Appreciate Anything Your Willing To Answer Or Tell Me Thank You! Hope All Is Going Well With Gavin!
Momma_Trey Hi there!! Yea, so I would also talk for him or just know what he needed and wanted with out him telling me and I didn't think anything of it. I thought he just was shy or not ready to share his thoughts but there were also other things like him not looking at me when I called his name or pointing at objects so a few months before he turned 2 he was evaluated for autism and he scored "at risk" so they started early intervention with weekly speech and OT therapies at home. And boy did they make a difference! So just before he turned 3 he had his final evaluation where they felt comfortable enough to diagnose him with autism. He's now in preschool where he gets speech and OT therapies and will very shortly be starting additional therapies at home. We feel as much interaction and encouragement to engage and socialize is really helping him open up more. He's super smart and has tons of words now. He shows better eye contact and engages so much more now. He's very quirky and loving and really A GREAT KID! I hope this helps and please let me know if I can answer anything else!😊
