New Guitar Review: Martin Guitars GPC-16E | Affordably Priced and Made in the USA!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 вер 2024
- Martin guitar continues to roll out new compelling updates to its models that bring more value while also returning to vintage designs and aesthetics. The updates to the Martin 16 series continues these efforts with new tonewoods, features and aesthetic choices along with an extremely afforable price in an all-solid wood acoustic guitar that is still crafted in Martin's Nazareth, Pennsylvania factory. The GPC-16E combines these features and value with the Martin aesthetic in a modern Grand Performance cutaway model. The Grand Performance body is wider at the lower bout than a Martin OM or 000 but is has a tighter waist and lighter bracing than a dreadnought. This is the guitar that is meant to perform well across a number of different playing styles. The smaller top and lighter bracing ensures the guitar will respond well to a light touch that comes with finger style performances. The additional real estate on the lower bout means that a flat pick won't overwhelm the guitar and volume is available in spades. In short, this guitar handles what ever you throw at it. The availability of solid East Indian Rosewood back and sides is typically not something that is available at this price from an American manufacturer. The fast playing neck and Fishman electronics finishes off this compelling option that is sure to turn some heads.

I just recently bought this guitar and it is fantastic. HIGHLY recommend!!
The smaller bodyshape and the cutaway is what made me go with the gpc
Did you test out any Taylor guitars in the 300 and 400 series by any chance? Curious to know what you thought of the comparison if so.
I bought 2 of them. A 12. String and a 6 string. Best thing they ever came out with. Not to knock the D series but the cut makes the more versatile.
I'm glad you like it. I hate when people hate on GPs. I don't understand it. Sound great to me. And I'm a Martin traditional guy through and through
I’ve had this exact guitar for a month now. Love it.
It's a good one!
Also would love to see Chris do a comparison between this Martin and the Taylor 224ce K Deluxe.
Only if he adds a Yamaha to the mic
Very informative review. Lots of good information, and I love your version of Amazing Grace.
Instablaster...
I was looking at the SC--13E, but then I saw the GPC-16E Mahogany for only $150 more, and it resonates so much better than the SC-13.
I had the exact same experience yesterday. This guitar sounds AWEASOME!
What a great explanation. I love your reviews. From Panama City.
Nice review!! I tried it at a shop. I think it is suitable for performing at cafe or bar plugged in. I expected it glittering and crispy tone like upper grade of standard series, but it is not as same as. But a nice acoustic electric guitar.
Thank you this was very helpful. I’m thinking about actually buying this guitar so thank you for the video.
I played one of these after just coming from some bigger dreadnoughts and I love them sound great and I actually played better on this guitar then the guitar I started on and am still playing
I wish they made it without electronics. I’d be more tempted
The pickups take away nothing from the resonance, and add so little to the price it really shouldn't matter. imho.
I've got a GPCPA3 with the Aura system, this body size in rosewood is killer, super versatile and balanced. Everything from flat pick to fingerstyle.
fucking 2 k grand what the fork
Love it Chris! How would you compare the GPC-160 to the Yamaha FGX5? Thanks for all you do!
I would like to know about this compared to FGX5 as well!
If we can get another FGX5 in stock some time this century I'll compare them. LOL! ;) - Chris
This is an excellent demo of a very balanced, warm sounding Martin, think I'll get one! Not boomy like my dread, fuller than my OM, comfortable to play.
I’d love to see a shootout of the Martin GPC-16e MAHOGANY vs the Taylor 314ce V-class 🙏🏻 I think it’s a good comp in specs, tone wood and price point. I know a lot of people like it, but I’m not huge fan of East Indian Rosewood. The GPC-16e Mahogany has a much nicer tone to my ears but I guess it’s just personal preference. Thanks for doing these reviews
PS I’d compare them myself but the COVID-19 quarantine makes that pretty much impossible
The 314ce has a brighter and clearer sound. Played both today.
Great Video. Chris, am I missing something here? I think this guitar may have just moved to the top of Martin's best buy list. All solid wood, sitka/rosewood, forward shifted/scalloped bracing, ebony finger board, 1 3/4 bone nut, gloss top, modified low oval high performance neck, cutaway WITH electronics etc... $1,699.. Are you kidding me! And it sounded SO good
Yeah but that’s in USD!
hey Chris...your reviews are really great. Thank you! I just watched your review of the Martin SC-13E Acoustic-Electric Guitar before watching this one. If you had to choose between the SC-13E and the GPC-16E which would you choose? Being that they are similar price points I'm curious. Thanks and keep up the awesome reviews!
gpc16e, the specs are so good for the price
the sc 13 is a toy...its for an electric player skinny neck and tone...I was dissapointed when I played it
I bought the GPC 11e then tried a SC-13e, GPC 13e and GPC-16e and immediately returned the GPC 11e not because its a bad guitar its great but the GPC 16e is just that much better. SC 13e is the weakest out of the 4 of them and cost more than the GPC 11e but I think the SC 13e should be the cheapest its the only one I wouldn't buy.
I need to see this guitar compared to the SC-13e. Preferably before payday.
Very similar to the SC 13e. Except this has a better pick up system and Rosewood back and sides instead of laminate Koa. The 13 has Some new innovative features like the cutaway and the bolt on dovetail neck and the body shape. If I had to choose between the two I would definitely go for this 16 model
@@jackbandel thanks! I bought the SC but didn't keep it. Its innovations did not speak to me. I think I'm leaning towards the GPC-16.
WTF he keeps repeating that it is an affordable guitar, the price on their site is $1699. I wouldn't call that affordable.
Andre Aguilar right!? I hate that about today’s market, affordable to me is under $1,000 at max price. Even that is asking a lot to be considered affordable.
Because a decent American made guitars tends to be at least $2000 and up.
He says it on every video with one of the "low end" USA made Martins or Taylors. I get the point of what hes saying but he should probably word it differently. It's either affordable or it's not affordable, regardless of the brand or where its made. And for most people these are not affordable.
Andre Aguilar Yup...but remember, “affordable” is a relative term in all consumer items.
It’s all relative. For a well made acoustic guitar that has a solid wood back, sides and top made in the USA it’s cheap. The GPC-13E is sort of similar, but is made in Mexico and can be had for $1299. The only downside on the 13E, is the fact that the fingerboard and bridge are made from richlite, which is a composite material. I say downside, as most guitarists, me included, find the concept of composite material in a guitar questionable. Having played one, the feel of the fingerboard is actually very good though and tonally it’s great.
I love the new intro!!! Keep up with it Chris!! Go Alamo🔥🔥🔥
I just got one of these to play at open mic nights. I absoutley love my dreadnought Martins but having a $3K - $4K guitar sitting around while I go to the bathroom, someone else needing a guitar, play etc, I'm more comfortable taking this one (not that it's cheap). Also, it's so comfortable to play. BTW, I love your song selection.
You didn't plug the guitar in I wanted to hear it plugged in too
What’s the song/riff your playing at 8:03 Iv heard it on a lot of your reviews and would like to learn it thanks!
Soita, eläkä selitä!
I really like the channel
Bought the 12 string version. Best Guitar I've ever owned. Slightly less bass then the Dreadnaughts but only slightly.
hey, what's the song at the 8 minute mark? would love to learn it, sounds beautiful
I like how you described tone woods.
Best Martin I’ve played in awhile. I was at GC playing it for an hour. The only reason I didn’t lock it up was me being frugal as of late but I want this bad.
Same. Literally a day after I watched this video, I saw it on display at my local GC and played it for over an hour. I especially love the enhance feature on the pickup, it seems like an incredible thing to have for live performances.
Alamo music…. Give this guy a raise. Dang he’s good!
Affordable guitar my bottom, the price ranges from £2100 to £2600 in UK
Guitar guitar have them for £1400 at the minute
would love to see a comparison between the red label by yamaha and this
Good tone and well-executed demo, but a stage guitar video really should include some plugged-in footage as well.
How would you compare this beauty to the Martin Custom D?
The Custom D is a Guitar Center exclusive model that is really stripped down to get it to that price. The 16 series are superior which is seen in the price. - Chris
Alamo Music Center thank you for your response. The richlite stuff just doesn’t jive with me. The Custom D is all real, American made, wood. I guess I just have to order one to find out what sounds the best.
Why do you speak of richlite like its bad to have. I see plenty of expensive Martins made in the U.S.A with a richlite fingerboard and never had an issue with them.
If you enjoy richlite fingerboards then don't let us change your opinion (: a lot of this is taste.
Alamo Music Center Your right all about taste. I played a Martin ovangkol GPC with rich lite. I loved that guitar but guitar center sent it to me with a broken truss rod and they don’t have anymore replacements. I have a Taylor 214e DLX which is an Ebony finger board. Ebony is nice to play on.
Love Taylors! You might consider taking your Martin to a local Luthier or music store to see if they can repair it!
Nice man.....love Martin's......
I still want the d28e
When God blesses me with a load of cash lol
Rev Nugent --> cash is not a main matter.. Blessing has no relation to it
Our Life is the real Blessing from our GOD
@@oregonfloor5113 I was just joking.
The breath in my lungs is all the blessings I need!
@@oregonfloor5113 the d28 is extremely expensive, not easily available to a poor preacher like me, you need to loosen up dude!
Enjoy life, instead of. Critiquing every comment on UA-cam..... Just sayin!
You don't know anything about me ,yet you seem to want to judge me by one JOKE I made on UA-cam!!
🤔 SAD WORLD
If I were in this world for cash I would be in a different job. Lol
But I love what I do....help others, I hope you wake up and have a great day.
Rev Nugent if so.. don't linked (or don't used) The Blessing to the price of guitar or other things.. even it's for zoking..!
@@oregonfloor5113 have a good day
What is the difference between Gcp-E16 and a Gcp-2x
I have the Martin gpc11 that's good enough for me,its a Martin MTX Machine head all the way down to the bridge
Is it completely assembled in the US?
Nazareth, Pa enough for ya? Yes, the 15 series on up are USA made.
Chris, scarf joint neck ? Come with a case ? Looks like a gem !!!!
Didn’t hear the electronics
I've got a Martin d16rgt which is a great guitar!
This is $1,900 price range, not 'affordable'!
Chris, do you have the tabs to the music you were playing on this video. I loved it. BTW I just bought a GPC 16 based on your review
Wow, Chris, you're really ripping it up these days!! Good job, buddy!!
Does anyone know the song Chris is playing at the 8 minute mark?
He always play the same stuff making all guitars sound the same, and look for the same purpose/style
Playing the same stuff for years and years and years and years and years, and you come asking what is the name of WHAT? Because your being sarcastic, arent you?
@@angelcastellanosmartinez2412 I was being serious. I have heard him play it before but I just didn't know if it was something he came up with or if it was something someone else wrote.
Martin guitars have overwhelming bass and on stage it feedbacks
Would you be able to do a review and demo on the Martin D16 Special - Spruce Too with Rosewood back and sides. Love your reviews at Alamo Music 🎶!
Your Videos are always great and once again you I ask myself to buy something supportive if this channel. So in appreciation I'm buying a shirt. I know it's not a guitat but what the hell. On another subject could you mahe a video on Martins new 16 series Dreadnought. Hoping soon for more of your stuff
I saw a comment somewhere but cant find it now, the person changed the strings and said it sounded so much better, any recommendation on what type of strings to use on the GPC-163 rosewood....thanks
Very helpful, thank you!
How would you rate this next to the Yamaha red label guitars you speak highly of? Been having a hard time deciding between the two and don't have anywhere locally where I can try them out.
i am having difficulty getting more lows from this guitar - any suggestions?
I just bout this. I am gonna compare it to my Yamaha A3R. Both have mostly same specs, we will see which one goes-p
I went to sweetwater a month ago to try this out. Then tried the D-16, then walked out with a D-28. LOL
Hi chris, please review martin 000-16e aswell.
thanks.
Noted!
had one, granadillo developed a 10" long crack within 7 weeks of brand new, wood is unstable and dries out quickly. I called Martin the first day I had it because of a rattling sound on open B. Their CSR told me that often happens when the wood is dried out causing the top to drop. 7 weeks later, overnight, a huge crack on the backside opened up. Shipped to Martin at my expense and they basically told me 'F U', they're perfect and this is not a warranty issue. I now own a $1600 wall art. DO NOT BUY a guitar made with granadillo... very unstable wood. Martin's warranty should be stated as 30 feet or 30 seconds, whichever comes first.
What would be the Taylor equivalent to this guitar? Will you do a comparison?
What kind of hard case should you get for this?
I got new Gcp E-16 do I have to go in the boot to adjust the neck
blah blah blah just play, godamn it
I played a gpc 13e z and the neck and low action were fantastic on the artist performance neck. Would you recommend this 16e over the 13e I know the 16 had a different neck?
Does this come in a mahogany back and sides?
Nice. Any relation to Andy McKee?
£2k - affordable 😂😂😂😂
How does this compare to the Taylor 414ce-r?
Is this investment worthy?
Can medium light strings be used on it
Looks like the one for me!
I would love to hear an upper fret work out - the cutaway is the what it's for
Do a review on the Martin 000C12-16E
I have a 2003 dc16rgte wondering how it compares. That is a great guitar.
What was your song @ 10:00? Beautiful!
I got this model 2 years ago but with mahogany back and sides. The store didn't have the rosewood one in stock. One did arrive a year later; I had the opportunity to play it and discovered how much more mild the rosewood sounded compared to the mahogany. I'm so glad I got the mahogany GPC- 16e. It has a full- rich bodied sound, beautifully balanced. I've got a D-35 on lay-away and it doesn't sound any better than the 16e. That's how great it sounds.
Yes Mahog ( S.American or Sapeli ) sounds better on most Guitars than rosewood. Some in rosewood are brittle with nasty harmonics and don't record at all well.
Please do a video on the 00-16E.
T-shirt designs. In order to express my feelings about acoustic/electronics my T-shirt reads "mic my soundhole"
Hey great video! I'm having a hard time between this and the taylor 314ce. Which one would u recommend? Thanks!
What type of music do you like to play? (:
@@AlamoMusic Tommy Emmanuel's songs (I try to at least). I was also thinking about a 000.
Any of those guitars should work great!
Hi, I was at guitar center trying the gpc 16 and the 314, and I choose the gpc 16, maybe because it weighs less, but the sound is not that bright like the Taylor, but is not a bad thing for those who doesn’t like the sound to bright. And also it was 200us less...
@@prosoundguitar I see. I was at guitar center and tried the 314 but I havent tries the gpc16 cause it wasnt there.
What kind of pick are you using in this demo?
It seems that all the guitars that you're showing us are purely acoustic and not acoustic- electric guitar......... i'll just buy those cheap once with good tone guitar....
This model is acoustic-electric as states - it comes with a Fishman Matrix VT. - Chris ;)
Those necks are NOT comfortable. If you have big hands maybe. Smaller hands no
sounds like a million bucks though
Why is that? Today it’s $1299 on musicians friend
More I watched your videos less I am able to choose one, they all sound great, I am hesitated between this and D16E, can any one help me ?
I got one 2 weeks ago and thinking of switching to D16e because the volume without amp is notably too small.
Chris - how does this compare to a Martin GPC-13E Road Series Acoustic-Electric Guitar?
Yes same question here.
@@BkBk-gy6vr road series are not made in Pennsylvania, if that matters.
Is there a built-in tuner on the GPC-16e?
No
I have two questions: 1: How does it compare to the corresponding Performing Artist model. GPCPA4? 2: How does it compare to the new Yamaha Red Label small body guitars, the FS3X and FS5X?
Eric Fisher I would like to know that too. Hard to distinguish the Road Series from the PA series.
@@jackbandel291 those are Made in Mexico. The GPC 16e us made in Pennsylvania.
do you have a demo video of the GPC28E?
thats like 4 grand another level
Bro, what would you say is the main difference to lookout between D-16E and GPC-16E? I see they´re the same depth..
Ricardo Valdés I’d like to know as well. I can’t decide between the two. I’m leaning more towards the GPC since I’d eventually like to also pick up a D-28.
Charles Evans I discovered there’s a DC-16E! (with cutout) On Martin’s website; but no big store has it (discontinued?)
Just got mine a week ago and the 1st 3 days it played amazing perfect action all strings strummed in balance zero buzz but the 4th day it sounds different not as alive and little flat not as balanced and I kept it in 66 to 69 degree room and added a humidifier at 40 percent and thats what the store had it at.
You may prefer the sound of very new strings. Once strings have stretched and sat for a while they definitely change tone and become less bright, which some people prefer and others not as much
$1700
jA! jA!
17k?
EXACTLY - HOW IS TIS AFFORDABLE? I GUESS COMPARED TO OTHER MARTINS BUT COME ON..LOL DONT GET ME WRONG GREAT COMPANY AND GUITARS BUT I THINK THEY ARE STRETCHING THE AFFORDABILITY A LIL TOO MUCH.
I have a GPC 16E Special Carpathian. Man this is my go to guitar. To my ears this sounds better than OM-28 or my Taylor 327e. I Love the low end bass on this guitar. Thanks for the review. I glad I got this guitar.
Better bass than your OM?
Okay this seems to be a really solid Martin forrr the price, considering Martin prices in general... But what do you guys think, is it worth compared to a let's say nice Furch guitar at a price point at around a 1000 bucks or a bit more, does anyone have both or has tried this Martin? I really like Martins, I always said my goal is to have a Martin one day maybe. A D28, D18 or a 000-28/OM-28 or at least something "more affordable" like this one. But I always say maybe because the prices man, especially where I live in Europe it's insanee... You can buy a car for that money where I live hahaha. I'm a huge guitar geek and enthusiast, especially for acoustics, I have love for other guitars too but a Martin is always somehow... You know. Currently I'm playing a Yamaha FG830 but I would like to upgrade in a year or two to something more...
I own a special gpc, and it's been warranted out 4 times now. The top bellied really bad. To fix this, I ordered a furch. I'm optimistic that the furch will be warm, and actually hold together. I almost bought a taylor 522ce, but I really like the warm sound of the martin
@@thummgti Curious how are you doing with your Furch? I am ready to buy a new acoustic guitar and have been researching Furch.
@@im58woody the furch is what people think the martin is. It does martin better than martin. Electronics are not the best, but the sound is beyond pretty. I really love the neck too. I generally play old dean guitars, and I don't notice much of a difference between the dean and the furch. I think the soft v is comfortable, but that's a personal opinion. I would say, go play one before you actually order one. The down side of furch is the wait time after you order. Mine took 4 months to arrive. I think it was worth the wait, but definitely play one before spending that amount of money. If you can play a bunch of guitars in the same price range. I also really liked the higend yamaha, but couldn't rationalize spending that much on a yamaha. The builder edited 324ce was fantastic too, and you can just go buy it today. There are many great guitars out there. I just happen to click best with my furch.
@@thummgti great suggestions. By high end Yamaha are you speaking of the Red Label series? I have been watching them for a while now too. Along with Alvarez Yairi guitars. I wonder why Furch doesn’t put a Anthem SL in their lower price model?
@@thummgtiNo one does Martin better than Martin. That doesn't make any sense.
It was said that Kyungsoo bought this guitar...
Dude can you get any more “wordier”?
Thanks for the informative vid on this model guitar Chris. I think I’m going to pull the plug on this one.
How do you like this guitar? I think I’m on the same boat as you were before buying this guitar?
Just bought this guitar and will be picking it up from the Martin Factory for a tour in March. This video helped me make my decision on which guitar to go with, so thanks! Was wondering however which strings were being used on this recording?
Thanks
Great sound, is there a music genre called "Affordabilly Rock"??
Does anyone ever described how the neck & strings feel while playing? i.e. when I play a Taylor 214ce the strings feel "tight" or hard to press, I have to use more pressure than when fretting a Taylor 814ce. An 814 feels like butter to me. The lightest pressure will fret the string & the notes will ring. Wish more reviews described this aspect.
It is probably just the action on the 214ce may be. higher then the 814ce. They both use the same strings as Taylor uses elixir as factory. Just the action on both guitars and see if the truss rod may need an adjustment on the 214ce.
@gunsofsteel very easy to play. The action is perfect, and even as a beginner I don't get any buzzing
Interesting that we never heard the built in electronics sound
Generic Piece of Crap?
