Mistral could compete to be the best, or at least a very important open source LLM. By choosing to be a proprietary model they will need to be better (or much cheaper) than Chat-GPT, Antropic and Google models to be noticed. The excitement around Llama's model is exactly because it's open source.

Not the best, not the cheapest, but resides in EU and is flexible enough in the alignment area.

I don’t need a smarter genius suffering from Alzheimer’s. I need a professor who remembers the project I was working on hours and days if not years later. LLM’s suck.
