    Kia has impressed a lot with its recent product lineup, and the quality and tech of the new Niro is no exception. It might just be the best all rounder for a sensible, low running cost small SUV packed with tech.

    Self charging hybrid = petrol car. My Kia E-Niro easily returned 300 miles per charge, my kids needed to stop every couple of hours and we traveled all over the U.K without ever feeling stressed about range at all. We do have off street parking and a 7kw charger so overnight charging is less than £5 for over 300 miles. I don’t really understand why folk think they need petrol or a hybrid. Low cost home charging is the key to trouble free EV ownership. Apple car play and maps were easy to access too.

      Trouble is, a lot of people live in houses without driveways or access to park directly outside on cramped terraced roads. So theres lots of instances that this will be an issue for the average household. It makes loads of sense if you earn a decent wage, have a driveway, and don’t do lots of long trips. Which is a lot of people in the new car market granted. But it’s certainly not the best option in every use case, hence the need for the hybrid options. Nissan are doing a great job with their E Power hybrids - all electric to the wheels with a petrol generator. 500 miles range to a tank of fuel. No plug in necessary. Ideal for many

    Excellent review! I purchased my first Kia Niro EV wave December 21, 2022, of course it’s a 2023 and I’m absolutely in love with it. I’m getting between charges 308 to 315. I have a level two charger at home. Everything about this small SUV. It’s amazing definitely worth the money we spent!! I actually spent 50 for mine. I have the level 4. And you are absolutely right. You can’t beat the warranty with a Kia so for me if you’re definitely new with electric, definitely go with the best warranty.

    Nice review. H-K are where it's at for reliable EVs. We've had an Ioniq electric for nearly 6 years and it's still an awesome car. Having had an ICE car from 2006 that actually did 65mpg average over a year, I'm not impressed with 65mpg in 2023! EV all the way for us.

    14:22 in California we have a dozen charging networks [currently in 2024]. Unfortunately (because of stupid Ohms law) super fast DC charging cables are pretty short. So an easy to reach charging port is actually a huge advantage!

    Regarding the front charging port Kia probably considered that with all the safety features you are far more likely to have a rear impact than a front. With the auto emergency braking etc.

    Good review Dan. I have mine for a few months now and mostly love it. It's my second Niro EV. A few points for KIA to note ... Getting to the climate control on the screen to turn off the heat takes too many steps and is dangerous when driving and there's no way I can see to create a shortcut. This needs to be addressed as the heat is the main drain on the battery. The software in the infotainment system takes a bit of time to boot up when you switch the car on. Auto wipers aren't sensitive enough. Road noise is evident but you get used to it. Suspension is softer than the old E-Niro and a bit boaty over our rural roads in Ireland. Wireless Apple CarPlay would be nice. I'm getting 230 miles of range in winter but it's starting to get better as we move into spring. There's a lot more to love than hate. I highly recommend it.

    13:55 about the port position.. I can totally agree with you with everything you said. I personally also prefer to reverse into a parking space, rather then reverse out of it. The point about the crash is also valid point - thats why usually some cars at least put the charge port at the side fender.

      “Self charging” is marketing terminology used in the industry to explain the fact that you don’t need to manually charge it. Common sense tells you that it doesn’t generate electricity out of thin air! The purpose of this video is to review the car, not explain the specifics of the drivetrains that the average consumer either already knows about, or care little about.

    The thing that is quite clear is your attitude towards EV's in general. Either get on the EV side or stay on the ICE side. There is no such thing as middle ground here. Those quips and jabs that you take at EV's is actually quite insulting.

    • @ItsDanLatham
      @ItsDanLatham  Рік тому +3

      Not sure you really understand my commentary. I actually prefer driving an EV day to day. I just don’t think the infrastructure is right in the UK yet. And I would rather a self charging hybrid than a plug in one, just because its easier to live with. And I drive a petrol car myself because I like them and can’t yet commit to the cost and range of an EV.

      I am not a fan of your jabs of innuendo concerning EV's vs ICE car favoritism. Drive an Internal Combustion Engine Vehicle if you like and leave the EV diagnostics to EV owners that give good honest reviews about something they are passionate about.

      The EV infrastructure in the UK is shit. How can you even debate it when you don’t live here? It’s not just EV infrastructure that’s shit, it’s pretty much anything modern 😂 Transport links, public transport costs, cycling infrastructure, etc. It’s like the government and councils are trying to do everything possible to convince you to purchase and drive ICE vehicles day to day.

    • @SaxJockey
      @SaxJockey 10 місяців тому

      @@ItsDanLathamThe comments are somewhat harsh. All I picked up on was your observation of the charging infrastructure, which is fair comment. I am considering moving on from ICE to full hybrid, or possibly EV. However, the range of the Niro EV (285mls) could be an issue if I was to make a return business trip of 350 miles in one day. After an already very long day, I would not want to faff around booking/waiting for a fast charging point in order to complete the return journey. Likewise, if using it to start a holiday, travelling 220 miles to the south (parking up for flights or ports), then returning a week or two later to have to find a fast charging point to return. Granted, the charging could be done on either the outward or return journey...but finding one is not guaranteed. Also not everyone has the ability to charge an EV or PHEV vehicle at home (terraced houses/flats/apartments), so having to wait at a public charging point once a week could be a bind. That's where the HEV plays it's part.
