Running Dreilandergarten parkrun, Germany. The parkrun with Turtles!

- We were visiting friends in South West Germany and imagine my delight when we realised that their local parkrun was just 3km from their house! And they had never been?!
Dreilandergarten parkrun is small but perfectly formed. They've done a fantastic job of designing their course to make use of the available space. The large loop in the forest was simply gorgeous! This is a super small parkrun so has that real intimate feel. Being so close to the French and Swiss borders then it has a real international feel with lots of parkrunners coming over from Basel to run, as Switzerland has no parkrun yet.
The highlight of this parkrun has to be the turtles. Poppy fell in love, named them, and wanted to spend all of our time with them. It was a really special experience and one we will remember forever!
I didn't have the healthiest post-parkrun breakfast but it was fun (and delicious) to try new things!
Happy running,
Nicola :)

Another lovely run. I do like small events like this.
Me toooooooo! It's so much easier to chat and enjoy it and not feel like you missed out on things from it being too busy 😃
Aww I love German parkruns and it looked beautiful. I thought Poppy was looking cool... with your sunglasses! You said my name 🤣Thanks for sharing.
It was such a gorgeous parkrun... AND... Poppy needed a D for her alphabet but I've only just realised she now has one from this run! 🎉🎉🎉
Awesome video! I'm off to Basel later this month, and going to pop across the border to give this one a try! 🏃 Hope it's as good as it looks 🙌
Thanks, ooh that's exciting! I hope you have a great run and enjoy it as much as we did 😃
What an amazing parkrun it had every single terrain and it is like a zoo trip in a park run and a great presenter makes you watch to the end. Well done on another great park run. Saturday is my cowell
Thanks, yes it was definitely a great parkrun! I'm sure you've seen some brilliant venues in your 99 different runs so far 😍
Looks a really lovely course and looks like the weather was as hot there as back in the UK (was 32C yesterday). Hearing you mention it was quite a small parkrun with 20 odd in attendance reminded me of when I started doing parkruns back in 2012/13 with a couple of runners from where I worked at the time. They were into parkrun tourism and visited a parkrun in North London called Pymmes Park which had only just started and just 6 people turned up including my friends Adrian & Ben. Adrian, whose from Leeds funnily enough, finished first in around 21 minutes. I cried off from that parkrun as heavy rain forecast which didn't impress Adrian who called me a 'typical Southern Softie'.
Oh wow! 6 runners is small! I've never been to a parkrun with so few parkrunners! That's definitely an experience 🏃♀️
A terrapin lives in freshwater, a turtle in salt water, a terrapin has legs similar to a tortoise whereas a turtle has flippers, just call me Nola Attenborough 🤪
I was just having the same thoughts! “it is normal in the UK for the word terrapin to be used to describe those that live in fresh water”.
3 types of chelonian (reptile with shell) - tortoise (land), turtle (ocean), terrapin (fresh water).
Ace thanks! Terrapins then 😃🐢
It’s very close to the Vitra design museum with a huge child slide as a bribe to encourage a child to run
It is! We love it there! 😍
Part Parkrun, part Really Wild Show. Looked an amazing course Nicola. How were the ice cream
nuggets? Such a great idea
They were DELICIOUS! Like mini choc ices, I loved them! And for the record Poppy didn't give me any of her almond magnum 😱🤣🤣🤣😱
It would be nice to host you in Poland 🇵🇱 for parkrun Chrzanów. My wife and I watched your participation in Denmark and Sweden last year. This year we wanted to do the same but it was only possible to participate in Amager Strandpark in Copenhagen because Malmo was cancelled. We like your videos very much. Regards Maggie and Peter :)
Nooo, Nicola has to come to Krakow first! ;) But Chrzanów is also lovely :)
@@benschko115 Ben!!! ;)
Thank you so much! We'd love to do more of the polish parkruns 😍 It's a shame you couldn't come to a Swedish parkrun but the logistics were more difficult this year. I hope you had a brilliant time at Amager Strandpark 😃
This made me giggle 🤣🤭
@@NicolaRuns It was great!
Dreilandergarten parkrun ist sehr schön!
It certainly is! 😍
Hooray , youre like Phileas Fogg in lycra 😊
This made me laugh loads 🤣🤣🤣
Have your German friends been to parkrun since this one? :) Another sehr gut video, with added turtle power!
How would you rate Dreillandergarten compared to other Deutschland events you've done?
Sadly not but there's only been a few and they were in Berlin the following week. Eva said parkrun needs to be 7pm on a weekday which made me laugh 🤣 I've only done one other German event so don't have a lot to compare it to 🙃 I ran Volksgarten in 2019 🏃♀️
So what were those drinks you had post race at the café? You mentioned something about them being produced by Pepsi and the other by Coke. Just curious. Looks like Poppy has just as much fun exploring as she does running. I loved the tour of the park -- looked absolutely beautiful. I did a bit of a park run this weekend but it wasn't put on my the park run -- a local 5K at a park put on by the city (not free). Always fun to get out on a Saturday morning and run hard and socialize with people. Enjoyed the video and look forward to seeing more content.
A massive part of our parkrun tourism is exploring new places, the running is our way to explore rather than it being the other way around if that makes sense 😃 The drink was cola mixed with orangeade. So there's a coke version (spezi) and a pepsi version (schwip schop). It was the pepsi one that I had. I have to have it at least once every time I go to Germany 😃 I love it despite it looking like a manky brown drink 🤣
@@NicolaRuns Thanks! I'll have to give this a try sometime.
@@eddiegaul1903 definitely do, it's delicious 😋 but not very healthy 🤦🏻♀️ I absolutely love drinking it on ultras though 🎉🎉🎉
Will you be a volunteer pace again for Yorkshire Marathon this year?
I think so 🤗
