What a great guy and great talker Russell Malone is. I've had the pleasure of seeing him play live a couple of times and he is a real master. So many wonderful stories here and I appreciated his kind words about Gene Bertoncini, my late father's good friend and favorite guitarist.

Thank you. I really appreciate this wonderful interview. When I hear him talk about playing like Freddie Green, I immediately think of Ray Brown’s final recording with Russell and Monty Alexander in 2002. You can definitely hear him channeling Freddie with his rhythm playing on “Fly Me To The Moon.”
Also interesting was his discussion of John Collins. Collins is a player I’ve always liked and have seen his name on recordings, but could never find any information about him. There are very few pictures of him even. Probably his most notable appearance is on Nat King Cole’s “After Midnight” album from 1957, which is just a phenomenal recording imo. Collins’ solo on “Sweet Lorraine” is so tasteful-sparse and economical, yet gorgeous and with beautiful tone.

Great interview but that background noise is way too annoying. Sorry.
