My mother and a doctor from Northwestern, Dr. Earle, tested my Mothers side of the family and discovered many members had Double Albumin. My mother, brother and my son have it. This was back in the early 60's. They even flew to Germany to test others in the family. I just found all the correspondence between the doctor and my mother. It is also called Turtle Blood......
Thanks for the explanation! My friend's sister is in the hospital with several things wrong, including low albumin and severe edema; this helps me to understand the process.
My albumin is high 50 I also have pots when standing up to quickly ,I was 18 stone now 14 on low fat diet and more fibre I have noticed when drinking more water and replacing electrolyte I'm much better.
Do you have a video on Liver when Hep C damage begins? 71 Mil. Suffer from it and need advise on healing naturally, dietary change and repair/ damage to possibly expect
I drank a protein drink an our before my blood panel like a dummy.. my only issue with the panel was my A/G being at a 2.5. im thinking the reason it was so high was because of my protein drink... or because of possible dehydration from a run i did hours before in the morning. Going in again for new panels..

My 7 yr old AGAP is low (6.0 - normal is 8.0-16) but albumin is normal (3.9 - normal is 3.8-5.4) which seems odd. Does this mean I have no reason to be concerned?
I am really sorry but for medico-legal reasons I can't provide individual medical advice - I would suggest that you speak to your own doctor who will be able to interpret this result in relation to his overall clinical picture.
If you look up hypoalbuminia (low albumin in the blood) the top reason given is "malnutrition" but for people eating "ordinary" diet in Western countries, "malnutrition" is the last thing that people think about. Is the standard medical advice simply to consume more protein? If malnutrition is indeed the reason for hypoalbuminia, does the person need to consume albumin (e.g. egg whites) or will any protein do? Another way to ask this question is what is the relationship between protein that is consumed in the diet and serum albumin levels in the blood? I'm sure it is more complicated than "eat albumin, get albumin in your blood."
I watched to the end before this second comment. Very useful information! You mentioned inflammation, but you didn't mention rheumatoid arthritis. Is that thought of as another possibility for causing low albumin?
I believe there is a documented associated between RA and hypoalbunemia in the literature --> "...albumin levels can be affected by the status of malnutrition found in 24.7 to 50% RA patients [33, 34]. The decreased albumin levels in our RA patients were confirmed by many other studies in the literature [6, 35]." @@DrODonovan hello, I’m interested to hear your answer regarding Karlin’s question about diet correlation with increasing albumin levels in the blood, I read the RA case study you linked in your reply and it was fascinating. For these RA patients, I hope they can one day be cured or slow the progression of the disease and make dietary changes to encourage normal albumin levels. But I’m very curious to hear your opinion regarding any correlation between diet vs albumin!

Any recommended direct-to-consumer labs that have a kidney test panel (that includes serum Cystatin C)? For example, plugging in the numbers on the National kidney Foundation's GFR calculator, everything seems normal. *Blood Creatinine for eGFR? ex. .77 mg/dL => 107 ml/min/1.73 (I have low muscle mass) or Urine albumin to creatinine? ex. .3 mg/dl (3ug/ml) / creatinine 11.7 mg/dl => 26 I drink lots of water, yet, I'm chronically thirsty/constipated with very dry skin, I wake up extremely dehydrated (like a hangover).. often with swollen eyelids. I don't seem to retain it as I'm constantly waking up to go to the bathroom, even when I haven't drank anything just before bed! Would it be better to skip the estimate, and do an actual GFR measurement via a 24-hour urine collection?

Hi. My globulin is 4.5, my total protein is 8.5, and my albumin/globulin ratio is 0.8. Would you say this is concerning? I also have high Lyphocytes, am anemic, etc.
I'm having a reoccurring issue a few times a year that my pre is too low to donate plasma. I eat really high protein totals, minimum of 1g to 1lb a day. Have recently lost about 25% of my weight through healthy foods, monk fasting and cutting out alcohol completely. Although my levels are low, my Alb and alpha 1 are high. Doctors in network are hard to find right now. Any suggestions to try and mark potential causes off the list? No swollen ankles No noticable fatigue I water down my coffee by using 1/4cup to a full pot. Drink over a gallon of water a day.
