Yuya always ends up playing the most impossible pieces on earth and just glide through the music like a walk in the park. It is conquest after conquest, an achiever like no other. This young lady can do ANYTHING in life and will do it well.
Well, she can't play linebacker for the NFL, or pilot an F-15, or tote a 100-lb pack and a 30-cal. machine gun up a 60 degree slope, so I think you may be exaggerating just a bit.
Yes, as said in many comments, Yuja Wang is a brilliant and totally unique musician in our days, As a Swedish Music lover, I am proud to tell that Yuja Wang has visited Sweden four times during this year, Stockholm twice, Göteborg and Malmö. How often does a musical genius go to this northern part of the World? Yuja Wang uses to say that her home is in Beijing, her office in New York, her living room in Vienna. Perhaps she will say that her kitchen is in Sweden. And her mind is in Music.
Fabulosa!
I have followed and heard most great pianists, live since Benno Moisewitsch in in mid 1950’s, yes lucky to be still in good health. Have autographs from Rubinstein, Arrau etc etc ... And Juga, long ago in Sydney! Absolutely phenomenal, and so refreshing to hear Tsaikovsky’s seldom heard 2nd piano concerto.... In my opinion Juga is absolutely the World’s greatest pianist......no need for weird antics and eye rolls etc.....👍👍👍❤️
I don't know about her being the greatest pianist, but she is very good indeed...with Argerich and Larrocha in the musical memory, she cannot hold that title just yet...if ever..
I wish there existed a contemporary composer who could create a sonata or concierto, anything, just for Yuga Wang. A piece that would challenge the length and breadth and depth of her genius; something future pianists would try to master, like climbing K2. ("He was good, but he never really played the Wang Concierto the way she played it.") I also wonder what would happen if she improvised with some top flight jazz musicians. If none of that happens, she will always have my love and admiration.
I believed John Adams did create a piano concerto for Yuja, commissioned by Los Angeles Phil. The piece is named "Must the Devil Have All the Good Tunes". In addition to live performances of this work there is a recording of it under the DG label.
There is the very good Adams work for her. But I totally agree: she needs more written especially for her, and some jazz would stretch her out a bit. Like yoga. But she has already had a marvelous career.
Yuja is probably the greatest classical pianist currently performing. However, she is not a brilliant jazz pianist. Her training never exposed her to that genre, and it shows in her performances of pieces like Rhapsody in Blue, where her playing is technically flawless, but lacking a jazz vibe.
@@timothybolshaw "...she is not a brilliant jazz pianist." Not right out of the gate, of course not. But given some time and some mentoring by any of the many accomplished jazz pianists that live in Yuja's home town NYC, I think she could be something truly remarkable.
They actually did. One of the first was Rodion Shchedrin, who commissioned his Impromptus premiere ("Artless Pages") to her; remarkable work. Then John Adams, "Must the Devil have the Good Tunes". And recently, Magnus Lindberg's 3'rd Concerto was dedicated to and premièred by her. So yes, it's done, and these are some of the greatest contemporary works.
A stunning performance that surpasses everything to date. I certainly won't ever tire of listening to her music and the way she interprets it so stylishly. This, coupled to her very obvious air of happiness, reflected in her style away from the Keyboard, places Ms Wang in a category of her own. All round Beauty, indeed.
I am thankful that I happened upon this marvelous work! You don't hear of it too often because of its extreme difficulty. But it is extremely beautiful! Thank you!
@Marius Walther Shura Cherkassky was responsible for me taking piano seriously. I heard him live only once and surprisingly he was meant to be playing this Concerto. At the last minute it was announced that he would be giving a Solo recital. It was a life changing moment. I was sitting above him so I saw how he manoeuvred around the keyboard. It was simply incredible and the music sublime. Not long after he passed away in London.
@Marius Walther Absolutely. I believe he was the last of the Golden age of pianists. It was truly a lesson in the full capacity and sound scope of the piano. I'm not sure how much you know about him but he had such an interesting and fascinating life and it all comes out through his art

As popular Tchaikovsky's 1st Concerto is I adore his 2nd. I heard it for the first time at around 14 or 15 years old in a live performance in New Zealand by Louis Lortie. It was simply magificent. The finale especially is just so full of life and energy. It's a massive Concerto also so to hold an audience for in excess of 40 minutes is more than a task, but this is one of the few concertos that can succeed due to the great structure and constant variety and excitment generated throughout this wonderful work

? ! You probably mean the composer (and it has never been a secret that Tchaikovsky is a genius), if you are in your right mind, since a "genius" is always someone with extraordinary intellectual and creative abilities. Ms. Wang, however, who I unquestionably appreciate as a pianist, is above all technically a particularly gifted, enormously well-conditioned interpreter with an exceptionally linear sparkling (as well as sometimes metallic...) keystroke. This makes self-explanatory nobody ever a genius even if these attributes are used inflationary nowadays. --
Martha Argerich when Simone says she is a genius, she answer no, I'm only talented. But even as a simple melomane not practicing at all, I feel these exceptional interpreters do create something different every day, they do not only copy a score, they have it ingrained in their blood and in their soul, and through the opera, they deliver their own personal message, making the performance a unique sharing with a particular audience in a special place. That it what makes people attend the concerts.
@Jeb Clem Such a statement is of course much too weak in substance, free of argumentation on the subject & has already been answered with my previous message
There have been many great pianists, of course, since the origin of this instrument and music for piano, too, but, just as we were thinking we would lose the playing of this music to modern pop (awful stuff) we now have this brilliant performance by this young lady, this young artist. It is exciting to imagine where she will take her career. It is also noteworthy, if I may, that there are several stunning young artists on piano and even on guitar who are ladies. The 21st Century may belong to them. Anyway, thoroughly played and thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you.
The more I see her perform the more I believe in reincarnation. In part anyways. The artist is reborn for a short period of time while she's playing. Like a fire can go out but it can be reignited.
the ease that she performs with--the music just flowing from her fingers--- it is as if she is breathing music -- and not playing just the correct notes.
