Hi Craig, just rewatching this for some shade inspiration, and thought you might be interested that my selaginella (came from your shop) has been outside all winter and is totally untouched and looking great - I’m zone 9 too.

This is great, thank you for doing this.
I am creating a tropical garden across a long North facing fenceline which gets around 2 hours sun a day if I am lucky. I am finding the plants that get a lot of sunlight easy to deal with but the shadiest section is a real challenge.
I got half way through the video before realising I am going to watch it in full with a pad and paper as I was learning too much to remember.

Love the pilea plant mentioned on 22:27 minute mark.....great garden. Plz do a video on green plants that do well on hot weather.

Great vid craig...shade and hardy is always a tough topic i share that struggle...and with plants attaining that 2m height thoughout summer, they are needed. Some great tips in that list. Love some of these begonia - only have a b. grandis here (struggling). The ferns listed are true gems btw. Woodwardia and birdsnest ferns can even handle some sun wel, and they do very well here on my dry sandi soils. Keep it up!

I'm jealous. I've been looking for Begonia 'Torsa' for 3 years now. I can't find any offered here in the US.

nice garden and shadowplants,, I like tropical hgardens but the weather in Belgium helps me not:(
next year we move to Brugge, its closer by the sea and there is more a warmer micro climat then were I liive now.
I have a question, I'm looking for the name off the plant left of the Pile with the big leaves, is is Alocasia or Alocasiia and wahts his second name??
On 21.56 your hand is just before the leaf.

What's the plant at 12:38 next to and behind the impatiens?

I was wondering that too. I’m guessing maybe Asarum europaeum.

Tell me something please, how to deal with begonias that are growing leggy

It depends on the type. Cane type begonias can be cut back to encourage bushier growth. 🙂
