You are absolutely right this beats most of the total uninspired boring movie soundtracks from nowadays by far. This compositions are just so absolute outstanding and breathtaking...just pure soul enhancement!
First saw this game at a friend's house. He smartly had his game audio pumped through his stereo and the asteroid sequence literally filled the room. I bought the game the next day and just about played non-stop through it over a weekend. It wasn't just the great music, it was the sound and mood the game created. I found it easy to imagine the rest of the world the story took place in. The ending stayed with me for a long time. One of my favorite game experiences. Thanks for the memories, LA.
I'm chilling, got my incense burning as I'm listening to this beautiful music and drawing a portrait for a very special person. Zoning the world out. peace.
Best game ever, I played it when I was like 7 years old, and I play it to this day. I have completely lost the count on how many times I have played it, probably hundreds. The story is so good... and the music... oh my god, Land (and Wagner), they are so good, I'm about to cry right now.
So haunting and beautiful! Absolute masterpiece! I loved this as a kid. For some reason it reminds me in parts of the Total Recall score which Jerry Goldsmith did. Another great soundtrack.
It took me a while, but I finished this game when I only eight years old or so. If I had but one wish to make while on this planet, it would be to have The Dig turned into a film in which the actors, writing, and the director would do the game justice. Excellent soundtrack, thought provoking, and overall a great game. :)
that transition into 03:19 sends chills through me every time. 03:53 - 05:47 dialogue section in the music is otherworldly in sound and feeling of space at 06:36 the build-up to the tubular bell is very powerful with the feeling of a brilliant majestic kingdom the choir at the end fills up the expanse of space and time.
omg I literally JUST posted about that idea on Facebook! It's Christmas 2012 and I got the inspiration from watching Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade with my family. I just remembered back in the day playing The Dig on my old ass computer and LOVING the storyline!
Oh man, that phrase awaken beautiful thoughts in my mind. I've remembered those feelings of almost pure loneliness and fear when I couldn't solve some of the game's riddles! I thought I was stuck on the beautiful but lone planet forever. I wondered then how the videogame could make me feel such way...
This game, is so underrated it's almost painful. I've only recently just discovered it, and I really have no idea how I missed it years ago. I would also like to note that it has one of the most engrossing and simply breathtaking soundtracks I've heard in any video game. I seriously can't believe I somehow missed this amazing game back when I was younger, graphics be damned, expectations of hilarious game play be damned- This an amazing adventure game worth a place in any PC gamers collection.
@RisingStarOfLight if it can be done right absolutely !!!! Even the game poster alone gives you that good, cinematic feel. Its feels so Spielberg-ish!!
I loved this game! Been looking for something like it for ages now, exploring ancient alien civilizations, walking around in a mysterious new universe. I
Starting at about 4:45 there's a slow tension build that I can't get out of my head. Also, the melodic phrases bursting forth at about 8:30 are just beautiful... wish they lasted longer, but that's hardly a criticism. Just the best music I've heard in any computer or video game.
@AnubusStar Maybe this is because Michael Land (composer) used Richard Wagner music samples to make this soundtrack. You can find some answers here: dig.mixnmojo.com/museum/interview_land.html
Yeah, I agree! The first time I played this game, I thought, "Why is this not a movie?" Having said that, I think Hollywood would fuck up this great idea and it would not meet our expectations. All we can do is appreciate the original for what it was. What it is. So immersive, so original, so deep.
i agree on the soundtrack; considering it is ENTIRELY synthesizer, Michael Land did an AMAZING job with it! I'd love to hear someone like Jeremy Soule or James Horner get ahold of the music and redo it with a live orchestra and choir. Hell, someone could even try their hand at a reboot of the game too! I'd definitely by it!
What is gobsmacking about this game is its stratospheric concept. Bearing in mind these are the same dudes that made Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle, this is a game about three people thrown against their will into an old, abandoned world populated by a race of beings who severed their corporeal connection with reality in a misguided attempt to achieve godhood. Beautiful, desolate, immortal. I am privileged to have been alive at the point in history when Cocytus was given to us to explore.
Because you're...We all are... this game toushes the sadnass and loneliness threads inside us. Unaware of or very origin we still fell it, just as a lost beings in the game forever stuck in spacetime six..:)
why arent games like this created anymore? nowadays its just about graphics. There is no mentionable good story or moral in any of todays games. the dig was a great game.
+Linkin Park mostly in indie games. People are praising The Witcher 3 right now but I have only seen screen shots and all I see is medieval magic and nothing new.
+Yacinto Balthasar Vizarro Check out Wadjet Eye games. They specialise in making old-fashioned adventure games similar to The Dig. They have made many excellent games that demonstrate the strength of storytelling through the medium of video games.
If you want some good narratives, try SOMA, Bastion, Disco Elysium, New Vegas, Night in the Woods, Outer Wilds... there are so many good games out there!
Not the best game, but far far from the worst, this was actually a good game. amazing soundtrack. Wouldn mind more in this style. I first played this like 2 years ago, missed this somehow, but still with the old graphics, its still solid.
Why should someone make a movie out of this, when the game was a flop back then? I don't think the movie industry wants to pour money down a rat hole. So people, wake up, don't be naive!!!
They should make a movie out of this game. It'd probably end up sucking, but if that was the case, I would just not buy it. Done right, it could be epic.
thank you chris wouldnt have found this without you man.
Why isn't Michael Land composing for major films? This is better than 99% of the scores in films today.
You are absolutely right this beats most of the total uninspired boring movie soundtracks from nowadays by far. This compositions are just so absolute outstanding and breathtaking...just pure soul enhancement!
He is, he is composing Return to Monkey Island, 2022
Much of this soundtrack samples from Wagner's work. The Parsifal Overture is very similar to this.
@@stevej71393 yes he 's influenced like 98 % of composers since the beginning of sound in cinema
unbelievable soundtrack. absolutely magical
I even never heard anything that overwhelming and emotional in any movie so far.... this is just breathtaking amazing.
”Course I miss you, darling. This is the loneliest place on earth!”
"Most exciting thing ever happens here is a day when it don't rain"
......."scuse me, darling, I got some work to do.... what the heck is that??"
@@georgebauerschmidt5289 *beep boop, beep boop* "Get on in here Pete, We got us a big ol' asteroid on a three week collision course with earth"
My favorite game. I played it at least 5 times. Time to play it again.
The graphics are awesome, too! But the soundtrack IS the most breathtaking I've ever heard!
Still absolute magic after all these years.
I have such fond memories of this game. So much in my life happened during that time when I first played this, and now this OST brings it all back.

Just the best music I've heard in any computer or video game.
This game has a better soundtrack than most games and even films made today. Timeless piece of music.
Theres something about this music that encapsulate 90s as a whole.
I'm chilling, got my incense burning as I'm listening to this beautiful music and drawing a portrait for a very special person. Zoning the world out. peace.

We need a remaster of this.
Thank God I had the luck to play this marvellous and forgotten gem.
It took me a while, but I finished this game when I only eight years old or so.

High on my musical wishlist is a live performance of this soundtrack by a full orchestra and choir. From 8:25 onward, this track is pure bliss
ohh memories ...

This music + anything = Epic!. It has never been so epic before to drink as glass of water with this music!.
Bought the soundtrack all those years ago. A must.
Amazing game! i really enjoyed this game, specially the music.
It was a truly wonderful game all in all.
That is a shame. I grew up on The Dig. It's still one of my most memorable gaming experiences to this day.
heyyyyy this appears in ror2
omg I literally JUST posted about that idea on Facebook! It's Christmas 2012 and I got the inspiration from watching Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade with my family. I just remembered back in the day playing The Dig on my old ass computer and LOVING the storyline!
I love this song and I haven't even played the game before
I played the original game. Tears in my eyes to listen to this amazing soundtrack...

great music to get creative and draw or write a sick story too. so ambient and haunting
Intro still gives me chills
wow, this is great!...
@RisingStarOfLight if it can be done right absolutely !!!!
Even the game poster alone gives you that good, cinematic feel. Its feels so Spielberg-ish!!
Simply amazing. I haven't played this one yet but it's on my list.
Thanks for uploading. I bought some Lucasarts classics pack the other day and this was one of the games. A very mysterious and moving game.
I loved this game! Been looking for something like it for ages now, exploring ancient alien civilizations, walking around in a mysterious new universe. I
acchh! guano, right in my eye. - everyone should have those long cheetoh'd nights with this game
This is so beautiful! I wish I could pay this game today! 🥲
The best adventure ever!

sublime
This and Another World both gave me similar sensations of just... almost loneliness.
ty for uploading this
I don't think Hollywood should make a movie out of this. It's too risky. They need to have Telltale games make an episodic series of this.
Good idea!
Pqp... que saudade !!!
@SJLaidler63 Man I couldn't find Maggie when she gets captured by the spider. But man when I found her was that moment great ^^
Things I remember,..... Steven Spielberg, Very Hard Game, Guy chops his hand off and sticks a rock on it.....think he goes crazy.
@AnubusStar Maybe this is because Michael Land (composer) used Richard Wagner music samples to make this soundtrack. You can find some answers here: dig.mixnmojo.com/museum/interview_land.html

Me too. It is sad that you can´t say something like this about any game from the last past years.
really reminds me of the Pagemaster.
@AnubusStar Futurama used this music, or at least one of the tracks, in their (recent) 8-bit style episode.
@RisingStarOfLight best idea ever!
i agree on the soundtrack; considering it is ENTIRELY synthesizer, Michael Land did an AMAZING job with it! Super Game!
0 people who saw this were raised off of the current generation of music, YAY! but only 45 can enjoy feeling music, BOO!
amen
the only problem is some puzzles like the mirror and the control panel... needed a walkthrough for that part so bad!
RIP LucasArts
Why do I get the feeling I've heard this music before? I never played The Dig, so it obviously wasn't from there.
Download the Dig soundtrack here:

Not to forget a breathtaking soundtrack like this creating an atmosphere that you never forget till the end of your life!

Easily up there with Hans Zimmer's Interstellar soundtrack.
@RisingStarOfLight He should start producing games again
I really wonder if George Lucas could make this a movie after all the years. Maybe it wouldn't feel like The DIG at all.
Incredible. This is real?
@vlasvlasvlas
Amen to that!
Make it so, Steven Spielberg!
Can make a good movie yup, but need to remind THE DIG are from Spielberg who just don't have enough budget at this time for make a movie with? ;)
If a game has a soundtrack like this it will be good no matter how crappy it really is. and make no mistake, that game was crappy.
ScummVM now! I must replay this game. I think that this, monkey island 3 and indiana jones: Altantis are going with me to my grave.
Why should someone make a movie out of this, when the game was a flop back then?
I don't think the movie industry wants to pour money down a rat hole. So people, wake up, don't be naive!!!
lmgdao!

lmao!
its kinda star trek-ish
I loved the game, and would hate to see it become a crap Michael Bay film or something. Sometimes it is better to let things be.
lol'd
