- Georges Delerue - Thème de Camille (Arr. for Cello & Piano)
Thème de Camille is the main leitmotif from Le Mépris (Contempt) - a 1963 New Wave drama film written and directed by Jean-Luc Godard, based on the 1954 Italian novel Il disprezzo (A Ghost at Noon) by Alberto Moravia.
Jean-Luc Godard commissioned this iconic film score from George Delerue, for his tragic - erotic film Le Mépris (1963), adapted from the 1954 novel Le Mépris by Alberto Moravia, a great story of love and happy life, between Paul and his wife Camille, who gradually, painfully, and tragically sinks into tearing and contempt, carried by the melancholy film music of Georges Delerue.
This classic masterpiece, emblematic of French cinema, is shot with the French stars of the time Brigitte Bardot (Camille) and Michel Piccoli (Paul) largely against the blue background of the Mediterranean Sea of the famous Villa Malaparte, in Capri, Italy.
*This music is also used by the Italian-American director Martin Scorsese, in his 1995 film Casino, with Robert De Niro and Sharon Stone.

Masterful. Has such an innate sense of tragedy. The descending bass line and odd rhythmic measures. And such a simple melody. Deliberately understated. Almost apathetic if not for the gravity of the harmonic progression that it so gracefully ornaments. So much tension and yearning with no real resolution. Delerue is one of my favourites.
“no resolution” - spot on
beautifully put.
First time I heard this was when I saw the 1995 film Casino

Great work. Really great work. Never fails to move me. I posted a version of that piece on my channel.
Does the movie really deserve the beauty of this, or is it the performance here! Thanks for sharing!
don’t disagree - the score and especially this piece transcends the actual film in terms of maturity, maybe. does that make sense?
@@2brazy4ubitch well, music has centuries of practice over film. It is natural that Godard's movie might seem overwhelmed by the score, cinema had only around 60 years of existance when Le Mepris was filmed.

You are right it’s too beautiful for that film. I could see for a major movie. It’s soooo gut wrenching!
Incredible thank you !

Merci
🌟🏆🌟
merci . vaut bien la version orchestrale
Beautifully played, but I think the music needs the weight of a full orchestra. It just doesn't sound as tragic arranged for cello and piano, even with a bit of skilful overdubbing.
Ça devrait remplacé ka marseillaise
