A very good question, I would say 90% arrive at the sheet or just below it. I'm using a glide cam attachment on the camera which allows me a free hand and freedom to look down when i move and I take great care not to tread on things. Inevitably some do perish though. By far the most important thing to avoid carnage is to be up at around 4am before sunrise in order to switch off the bulb and allow everything to fly away again before birds wake up and have a free feast.
Incredible! It's like Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom! Did it feel like you were stepping on fortune cookies at all? ;-) Also, that cicada at 9:23 sounded like a 90's printer. lol
Hallo Richard ! I like Your video very much. May I use just the sound from Your video for my exibition of the photos of night moths ? It will be in Prague, Czech republic next week. Marianna
One thing i really dislike with moth and butterfly is the weird powder/dust emitted from their flapping wings. Always freaked me tf out
I've never seen some of these moth species!!! They're absolutely gorgeous!!

I'm thinking Ambulyx substrigilis perhaps.
how do you walk without crushing any of the insects.
Try not to wander around near the light too much and take care. a flat area with short grass helps a lot.
did you use MV lamp?
