Im a radiologist and they had the announcement. I decided wait at least 5 seconds. Luckily someone volunteered, he had the ER look. Thank goodness!

? They did an emergency landing and took him to the ER?

@@areufkingkiddingme no, the doc who volunteered just before I pressed the button looked like an ER physician. No diversion. So it was a relief since I’m a radiologist and would not be the best doctor to be the main provider.

Haha I'm curious what the ER look is. Did he have a mountain bike helmet on? Or have an energy drink in each hand?

Thank you. I'm a resident, so any bonus would be alluring. Maybe just a soda would be alright.

If the plane is a medivac, just hope it has plenty of energy to get the patient back to full health bars. 😉

Sorry the slides were pretty basic, just wanted to put my notes down somewhere a little more visible than a OneNote document 😅

Radiologist here. Happened to me two days ago. A woman passed out and was laid down on the floor 😮. As a good non emergency doctor, waited for a minute to check whether a more competent dr was available. Unfortunately, no one stood up and as I didnt know the law in other EU country as a French radiologist, I provided assistant to that swedish woman. Fortunately we were only 30 min away from our destination and paramedics ended up taking her to Copenhagen hospital.. fourth time it happens to me, I m cursed 😂

I had a few inflight encounters: dizziness, nausea, vomit, etc. I once received a decent bottle of Champagne from the stewardess, which I gave to a friend, with the story:)

There is still a lot of controversy about whether you should accept vouchers/credits or not - what is your personal take? Here's a discussion between some people on Reddit... www.reddit.com/r/medicine/comments/1amfika/in_flight_medical_emergency_but_it_was_an_easy_one/kplefvm/

I never understood this. An airline is not paying for the patient’s treatment, because duh. There’s no logical way it could be seen as compensation for the treatment rendered when there was no discussion of the compensation before intervening. I do think that word has spread about this hypothetical liability, and that itself may predispose judges and juries to thinking it’s unethical, when in reality we know it’s not.

Airline cost cutting measures are probably contributing to more flight emergencies. Last one I responded to was near syncope in an old guy on the last hour of an 8 hour flight that did not have complimentary food or beverages! Drank some water and felt better.

Thank you for this very comprehensive and well spoken review--very much appreciated. I assisted on a medical emergency on a flight from NY to Dublin a year ago, with a good outcome but well documented reviews like this are always helpful. You never know when someone might need your help--in my case it was over the Sea of Labrador with the nearest airport being in Reykjavik, Iceland!

Excellent presentation. Airlines must provide first aid kits with an ECG machine.
NTG is controversial, for example if he has taken viagra the SBP will go to 50 mmHg.We need a very good medical history.
B blockers are also extremely controversial. Let the physicians in hospital to give IV.
Only if I have an ECG or the patient is below 50 years old and there is no difference between arms above 10 mmHg and pulses in every arm /leg I will give one 325 aspirin to chew and then to put below the tongue. Again we need a very good medical history. For example marfan syndrome.

No compensation? Man fk that, I'm no damn charity. The airline can hire a doc if they want one.
