    I'm new to Linux, SSH, and I cannot find the answers online to my issues. I seem to only find answers about how to do something on the machine I'm doing it on, but not the machine I will be connecting to (including GUI settings on both machines). My two constant painful errors are "port 22 connection timed out", and "connection refused" when trying to SSH from a Kali Linux box to my Windows 10 box, and, trying to use the built-in SSH feature in Windows 10 to remotely connect to the Linux box. How do I fix this on both machines (settings, open/close ports GUI, etc.)? Thank you. =).

      Hello, no problem at all let's check that the ssh service already running on both
      Follow the steps from your Windows machine
      1- Check the ssh service is running on port 22
      2- open service and make sure that ssh is running
      3- open your Windows firewall advanced security and make a rule to pass the ssh
      Follow the steps from your Linux
      Make sure that ssh is running enter the following commands
      1- netstat -lnp | grep ssh
      Result to be shown
      tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:22 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN /sshd
      2- service ssh status
      Results to be shown
      Server listening on 0.0.0.0 port 22
      3-Make sure you the firewall not blocking anything
      Do you want a video for it ?

      @@xviewmytubex Thank you for your comment, there are possibility that your ssh server is not running. Please make sure that the ssh server running on your windows machine. Would like to ask can you connect through ssh from Windows machine to your Linux machine ?

    • @cyber-tech-tips
      @cyber-tech-tips  6 років тому

      First need to check this you can ping from you Linux box to Windows
      Start ping both machine and tell what is the result from pinging both machine. and then check that the server is running from both machine
      Windows:
      $ netstat -a | findstr 22
      Open your services and start to search for the openssh, and make sure both the ssh server and the agent is running
      Type the following command on you command prompt
      $ ssh
      This to make sure you have your agent is running on Windows
      Linux:
      $ netstat -lnp | grep 22
      $ service ssh status
      $ ping Windows host
      You don't need to create any additional rules, just the inbound rule is enough. that to make sure that the firewall is not blocking the ssh port 22
      Best regards,

      @@cyber-tech-tips I now have both server/client running on both my Windows machines. Now, I'm scared of connecting. Lol. I'll explain, earlier today at work I watched an ethical hacking course vid and the instructor mentioned that I should be using anonymity for "any" type of ethical hacking/pen testing (as I've been trying to achieve -- simply connect with one machine of mine to another of mine remotely all on the same network). If I don't hide my true network data, my ISP could flag this activity as unsafe, suspicious, whatever, and possibly interrupt/cancel my internet service. Is this true for what I'm trying to do? And, if I was to purchase a vpn (test no leakage, etc) and use that for what I'm trying to do, would the vpn's network data be seen by my ISP as suspicious (seeing one machines IP remotely connecting to another) and result in the aforementioned? As I said, I'm totally new to all of this. I hope to not keep bugging you further. Thank you for all the valuable help! =).

Tab on over to "Log on" and then you can choose to use the "Local System account (default admin user) or you can specify another login. Curious as to what the checkbox "Allow service to interact with desktop" means, but that might have to be checked as well, not sure.
