WOW, another great wildlife encounter on our very remote Southern Illinois farm (we are farther south than parts of Kentucky). This time it was a family of Bobcats and I got and up close and personal view of two of the kittens. They were out in the middle of our gravel road/pad right next to our Pole barn when I pulled up in my truck. I thought it was very unusual that they were out in the open without the mother nearby. The ran up to me several times. I heard what I believe was the mother in the weeds making a deep groaning sound. This could have been a warning sound or a distress sound if she was somehow injured. Watch as this awesome and a little tense encounter unfolds as I finally get a look at an adult Bobcat, although I can't say for sure if it was the mother or the Male. Please share this video if you've enjoyed it to help get our channel out there. Where was this if you dont mind me asking.
I'm a truck driver in SC and I actually spotted one around Aiken, Greenwood area! First time I've ever seen one here in the south and I've lived here 30years.
Grew up in Tucson, so know about big cats.
Yeah! Nice restraint from the temptation! I believe that's true.

@@jaseas8887 sorry, I had my notifications turned off last year and missed your question. I'd rather not give out my location , but it was in a semi rural area outside of the main city, so it was definitely a treat to see. I also saw a grown bobcat chase a housecat (I guess they'll eat domestic cats like mountain lions do). The kitty was smart ...she intentionally ran right past me so the bobcat would be deterred. It worked, as the bob instantly veered away and the cat lived another day to tell the tail😄. I heard that a neighbor from a different area saw two grown mountain lions duking it out on her front lawn! Another person I talked to was living in a yurt in a wilderness area with her cat. When she went outside do do her "business" (the lady, not the cat), a mountain lion came right up to her yurt and snatched her cat in it's mouth while the lady had her pants wrapped around her ankles (I guess you could say she ..or rather her cat... "litter-ally" got caught with her pants down, lol...ok enough with the jokes😊). The lady jumped up and beat the lion with a stick or kicked it or something, and the giant putty dropped her kitty from it's mouth and ran away. The cat survived, but had a couple broken ribs😳. I'm glad you got to see a bobcat, and other big cats. Cats are amazing.

@Mike Forti babies are usually very well hidden, mom rarely leaves them in the open. Only when hunting are they left alone. Babies will curiously approach humans in the wild as they are curious little hungry critters!
It like they are asking ' can we eat this one mamma?' , males never stick around after mating, but a young mother may return to her mothers area to have that extra protection at birthing time.
As a former hatchery employee I have seen many cougar, bobcat/ lynx in my stay 56 km off road and 120 km up river into no mans land...the moms rarely attack, especially if you are not known as a threat to them. Hiding them close to your house while she was hunting may keep them out of harms way...if that was a male he may have been trying to eat hem and cause the mother to go back into heat so he can mate.

    Amazing! Great video👍🏼
My cousin rescued a baby kitten last March. My sister nursed him by bottle for his first 7 days. He was the runt, and scrawny, barely hanging on to Life. By the third day we realized he was a baby Bobcat; but only half - his mom is a domestic and dad is full Bobcat. We found the mom, kittens, and dad, along with two more female domestic with kittens also, in an abandoned house.
All were rescued by a private veterinarian.
After a week he was at strength to walk and hop around. His back legs are 3x’s longer than a regular house cat. Like jack rabbit-Kangaroo legs🤣
He was at full strength in 10 days and eating foods. He’s on a special diet being that he’s got Bobcat in his blood, and I’m not taking chances of his digestion failing or bad bowels.
He’s an indoor pet, leash trained in 2 days. I live in a private subdivision and there are many other pets, and a pet black cat that runs loose, as well as squirrels everywhere like a plague🤣
He will be only a year March 28th. And will be mature at 2 years. I take him for bi-weekly check ups, and my eldest daughter is a specialist veterinarian for exotic animals, and wild Life. So he’s surrounded by health and Love.
He’s a people person, and Loves kids. Never bites or hisses except at squirrels and a black cat LMAO
Although he does bite me and scratch me when we play. But that’s expected. He’s very loving, because he’s loved. I don’t get rough with him, and he’s only seeming to be rough, but claws and teeth are naturally razor sharp for protection and defense. I’ll have more blood loss in his lifetime than all my life🤣 I would not trade him to be any other way.

He's either full bobcat or fully felis catus. If he looks like he's half bobcat, you might have a Maine Coon. Bobcats and Lynx are not genetically compatible with housecats, so they can't interbreed. They can interbreed with Servals, Caracals, and some other small species of old world cats though, because they too originated in Africa. Felis catus is a domesticated African Wild Cat.

My comment is extremely late to the party, but in short, no: if you touch a baby bobcat and get your scent on it, the mother will NOT abandon it. This myth originates from the fact that this remains true for most species of birds. However, for most MAMMALS including (but not limited to), bobcats, lynx, rabbits, deer, squirrels, cats, dogs, cows, sheep, wolves, coyotes, and hamsters; if you touch their babies and get your scent all over them; the mother won't really care. And she certainly will NOT abandon them simply because they have human scent on them. That kind of behavior is almost never observed amoungst mammals.

@@SergeantExtreme No, it is not true for bird species. Birds have a very poor sense of smell. That is why, for instance, the RSPB (and perhaps also equivalent animal resuces/charities/organisations from whichever nation) recommend the best course of action if you stumble across a birds nest that has fallen from a bush or tree is to pick it up and, if possible, place it back in the bush or tree. The parents will not be able to scent potentially dangerous intruders, thus will not reject the young and this ensures the eggs/chicks are out of potential danger from predators on the ground, including domestic cats and dogs, or being incidentally crushed.

I've been in the woods a lot and I've never seen baby bobcats come out like that. I had a baby squirrel once that had gotten out of the tree and ran toward me and actually started climbing my leg. I shook it off so I wouldn't touch it and I saw the mom coming down the tree to get the baby so I backed off to give her space. She got ahold of the baby and took it back up into the tree.

When I was a kid we visited some relatives who had nursed a squirrel back to health that was hit by a car. It had become a pet, very friendly and loved attention. On the last day of our stay they released it as we watched. It hesitated, looked back at us, and scampered away across the gravel road... just as a neighbors truck came by and ran it over dead. I remember crying and my dad was roaring with laughter.

That's so cool and very fortunate to have them . I've had encounters with Bobcats but never had a camera with me at the moment . They're very curious and in all my encounters I've never had a bad experience with them . It's pretty obvious to me that they really want to know you better and share the land with you . You handled the situation perfectly and with caution which I totally respect . I could definitely see the temptation to want to touch one of the kittens especially since they approached you and not the opposite . Anyway super cool and thanks for sharing this with everyone .😸👍

You are so blessed my friend!!!! As for not touching a wild baby animal, it's a good rule to live by. I'm sure that story about getting the human scent on them that the mother would no longer have anything to do with the baby is an old wives tail that parents told their kids so the kids wouldn't be bring wild baby animals home... The only time we messed with wild babies was if the mother was dead. Then we would bottle feed them until they were about 8 weeks old. Then we take them out where we know they'd be safe and turn them loose. The rule was NEVER try to make a pet out of a wild animal...
But you were blessed to see them babies. Not many people get that chance. It's not common for Bobcats to be out much in the day time.... BBE..

True story. I was like 10, and my mom took me to McDonald's lol. I heard these funny squeaks, and some guy looking into the back of a van with some lady(her van) and he jumped when he looked inside.
It was clear people were walking iver, and when I heard the guy ask if he could run to the gas station to buy a disposable camera (lawless time, the early 00s) my curiosity got the best of me and I asked my mom if I could check I out.
I walked over and there were tiny, stumbling cubs in the grass right behind the van, and when i peaked inside the van there was a large cat (smaller then lion, bigger then bobcat), in a cage just watching.
What a cool thing to look back on. Sharing the moment with that man, his excitement, the genuine curiosity, it was even a nice day out(ok ok, I think it was at least).

You should get a FLIR camera. They make small ones that attach to cell phones. Then you'd be able to see the heat signature and know where the groans were coming from.

@Sound of Jesus Maybe, if the trunk itself got so heated up by the people inside, that it's warmer than the rest of the car. You wouldn't see outlines of people or anything like that.

Kap, very nice video but risky. Evidently you have not read the thrilling adventure book titled "The Bobcats Revenge", written and illustrated by Klawd Balls. lol

Yes I knew there was some risk involved and I accepted that. Seeing how I've stare down the alpha predators in many armed confrontations I figured I would take my risk with the animals :-)

He said Klwad Balls. Sorry the 12 year old just bubbles out of the 58 year old soul.
We have a lot of fox Families in my suburban Maryland community. I enjoy watching them the same way.
Man has encroached so far into their habitat that the fox are getting to act like domesticated dogs. The food is scarce and they know how to ask for it.🦊🦊🦊❤️❤️❤️

Those 'little' guys can take down a full grown horse. I'm sure Klawed suffered a lot more damage then to just his balls 😂
