Very informative video. Looking forward to the installation of the Hydrovane. Just did a sail from NC to the Keys on a boat with a Hydrovane, it is a game changer. I will be installing one on my boat this winter.
Good to see your new stove gently glowing. Hydrovane will be great from what I have heard. I have a Sea Feather which works well but maybe one day I will upgrade to a Hydrovane.
Thank you, Drake. I just bought my new ocean-crossing sailboat and came with a hydrovane. Looking forward to the installation and more comments on its actual functioning. Fair winds and hope to see you in Kattegat. My base port is Gothenburg, Sweden.
Thank you for another interesting and well presented video. I’m looking forward to your coverage of your Denmark cruise where you will be traveling the waters of my youth.
This is the wind wane model I'm considering for my boat. I hope Hydrovane will, sorry, I'm sure they will replace the broken plastic piece. Also, hopefully, they will review and correct their packaging procedure. Thanks for this informative episode. Cheers.
I found all of the Hydrovane boxes to be extremely well packaged. I have no idea how on earth that axis control knob could have got broken like that. Hydrovane said that they'd send us a replacement right away. - Drake
Absolutely. Our CPT autopilot as been steering us everywhere since 2013. :) Not too long ago it steered 100% of the way from Scotland up to Svalbard, and back, and through some really awful offshore weather. We'll make a review video of it over this summer. Here's that tough sail where the CPT handled everything like a champ: An 1100 nautical mile offshore sail straight to Svalbard in the Arctic Circle ua-cam.com/video/F6NZJgroiE0/v-deo.html
Hi Monique, just wanted to see if you could also post your videos on Rumble? Our family is watching more Rumble these days than anything and you'd be the only sailing blogger on this site that we know of. We miss seeing you all. 😀
So....the last time I looked you were in The Faroe's and now it seems you are in Scotland. Crafty old sea dog you kept that quiet. Any particular reason? Scotland has such a wonderful coastline, especially the west, and it would be great to experience it with you.
Cool video again Drake. I tried to get in touch whit them a couple years ago sent two emails from their website whit photos and mesurements and never got any reply I tought they were out of business. I end up buying a CPT autopilot and so far it does the job
Huh... I wonder why you never got a reply. When I filled out the contact form on Hydrovane's website, they responded pretty quickly. And they've always answered the phone when I called them. I'm glad to hear that your CPT autopilot is doing the job! :) We really appreciate our CPT, and have spare sheer pins and belts, and even a complete back up unit ready to swap out if we ever need to. - Drake If you're still interested, here's Hydrovane's contact info.
Did I miss something in later videos? I haven't heard a peep about the hydrovane. Have you been using? Sorry if it's a touchy subject. Just curious because I just ordered one and have been interested to hear what your experience has been.
Congratulations on your Hydrovane purchase. I’m planning to make a video showing the completion of our Hydrovane installation coming up right after the next video. I’m really happy with it, but I haven’t used it enough to do an in depth review yet. Hopefully soon. :)
@@drakeParagon my current 33 footer which has tiller steering has a Monitor which has been great. Moving up to a big fat cruiser in a couple of months (Wauquiez Amphitrite-43) and want to try the Hydrovane which I've only heard good things about. Fortunately, the install should be much more straightforward than on your double ender. Hoping so anyway 🙏
It's always a bad time when you break your nob. I will probably go with Hydrovane as well on my boat. Their site was a little confusing on their prices because they list the price of all the individual parts but not a complete kit (that I could see) how much did you pay for it? Or was this a paid promotion? Either way great video.
There a lot of variables that affect the price. Relatively speaking, the brackets are expensive. Once everything is defined, you will get a quote from Will, which may include a package discount - ours did and we are no different than other customers. You may also be able to take advantage of boat show specials.
Thanks for that. It appears that someone got it wrong on his Wikipedia page where in 2 places it refers to him as "Sir William Robert Patrick Knox-Johnston". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Knox-Johnston Well that's embarassing. I will make correction in the video description.

One of the best explanations on how a wind vane works that I have ever seen ! Thank you !

Yet another very informative and revealing video. Thank you Paragon.
Amazing piece of equipment. I hope you manage to mount it at the Faroes.
Very thorough explanation of how the Hydrovane vane and other wind vanes work. Thanks. Have you had a session on the CPT autopilot?

That’s odd. I purchased a unit a few weeks ago and found Hydrovane’s customer service to be exemplary from start to finish.

Hydrovane didn't sponsor this video. I'm not sure why, but it seems that you need to ask Hydrovane for a quote to get a price.
@@drakeParagon I found out after I posted it but I left the comment for the analytics. It was about $3,850 Canadian 👍

Nice, by the way the watch on the wall have stopped.....
Ahh thanks. I have to rewind it.
