Indeed, the Trump administration is extremely curious on India. India is the world's largest upcoming tax base, last and largest marketplace. India's primary shortcoming today is infrastructure. And this is made of bricks-&-mortar, land, sand re-bar, labor and trucks and some technical staff. Point-to-note is that Indian infrastructure is 10-25 times cheaper than $ US pegged infrastructure, probably even cheaper in light of historically cheap Global funding rates along with faith in India's debt servicing. Does India need UNSC membership? Well I am not so sure about this sentiment anymore!! India is doing well, growing well, able to defend itself. It can help others when they need India. India is establishing itself as Bharatbarsha (as Bharatbhumi) for the greater interest of Bharatbasi. Bharatbarsha represents about 18% of humanity. Do we need any other kind of outside endorsements?
Why not call out US role in the development of India's attitude. John Foster Dulles comes to mind, so does Mad Ellen half bright and others. The memory of nuclear energy for electricity in the early sixties, PL-480 and the abuse of influence etc. Times are changing, but that should not include surrendering sovereign interests. US has a tendency to freeze accounts of other countries to bring them to heal. This is sheer abuse of an advantage (dollar diplomacy). What is good for the goose must be good for the gander too.

Well as much as I want to believe whatever Alyssa Ayres said about India, my exuberance is tempered by all the ills which my beloved homeland is struggling with. To enlist a few of these are Education (Most are not capable to participate in 21st Century Economy), Malnutrition (large part of population is suffering from it), Sanitation (Significant number of people still do not access to), Clean Drinking Water (Large parts of Indians do not have access to), Healthcare (People have no credible access to Healthcare services). At the same time, Below is also true: 1. Thriving Software Industry (Although at the bottom end of the value chain) 2. Growing Startup ecosystem (Currently part of top 10) 3. Large consumer base
Manmohan Singh benefitted from the Superb economy handed over to him by Prime Minister A B Vajpayee's Govt in 2004. The good work done by Vajpayee continued to deliver for Manmohan Singh ( who did not do any work ) till 2010 after which the economy collapsed. Then in 2014 in came Modi and things started to change. Modi is different from Vajpayee.
That's not true. Manmohan Singh oversaw the world's largest poverty alleviation in the world. While PM Vajpayee did hand over a good economy, PM MMS did actually steer India to a stable, healthy economy, which was one of the only economies to escape the 2008 economic crisis. He oversaw one of the most liberal social policy in modern India with real ground breaking reforms like RTI, Indo US Civil Nuclear Deal, the implementation of 6th Pay Commission, MGNREGA among others. Vajpayee was a good PM, but Manmohan Singh too has been a good PM for India on the whole, but he is much less appreciated.
You forgot that Dr Manmohan was the finance minister who brought lpg reforms in 1991 after which our economy started growing. Also in 2010 when USA suffered depression many economies failed in the world market but it's effect on the Indian market was rather insignificant. Now I should say that he was not a very good pm but he was a genius economist. I would give him that

Its simple, if word structure has changed, center of power has shifted and still these groups do not change to reflect the ground reality...eventually these groups will become irrelevant.
Brilliant discussion on a wide range of topics with some surprising insights provided by Dr. Ayres. However, towards the end of the interview the speaker appeared to have rushed through her analysis (based mostly on media coverage) of the present government and Prime Minister Modi's responses to certain domestic issues. Agreed, these are worrisome particularly the mob lynching incidents. But now I'm curious and want to know more about how Modi's shaping of India's Foreign Policy and how that can affect the next decade.
Alyssa the perpetrators behind these crimes are arrested and tried. India is a federal structure Law and Order falls under the State Govt and they have taken actions under the law.
I wish she had clarified that. Because the way it came out, it sounded a lot like she was following the usual media narrative of laying it all at Modi's doorstep! Other than that slip it was an excellent talk by Dr Alyssa Ayres. Her nuanced understanding of India's strengths and concerns are laudable.
To neutralize threat of China, America need to take major countries in the region like India, Japan, Australia and other countries in the region. Russia always sided with India for want of manpower to counter hidden threat of China and North Korea.

I hate this kind of conclusion. India is on right path but rise ? I mean India will be a poor country for a long time. It has so much diversity that any non-indian cannot comprehend. I mean even in a state where there is a common language direct changes every 100km, food habit changes, god to whom we worship changes and not just social class of people. There is no other country in the world with so much diversity. I stay in a tier-3 city which has 6 different names. City has a name in English, Kannada, tulu, malayalam, urudu and beary language. We are basically socially liberal, culturally diverse, highly political and emotionally challenged ! It is not because of any political party that we are developing but because we want our future generation to do better than us. We will not be ally of any country but will also not be enemy of any country. We want to be friends with all because we have existed for 5000 years and know that it is the only way to live in peace. That's why we do not adhere to western standard of "if you are not with us then you are against us". We are still under colonial mindset, once we get out of that then we will be one of the leading country of the world
I believe the minorities of india should be protected and given confidence and opportunity to take part and contribute to the Indian economy for further growth for the future. There are a small percentage of Muslims that are millitant in thinking and are anti national. However, I believe the majority of Muslims are law abiding citizens in india and need to be encouraged to take full part in the indian economy . Neither should the overall Indian population surpress the minorities. If someone does something wrong , then irregardless of their religion, ethnicity or from which state he or she is from, should be made accountable.

Becz of Congress INDIA lag behind ; Now the thing's have changed under NARENDHRA MODI ; Under the implementation of GST itself INDIA will grow upto 8 % - 10 % in next 20 year's ; upto 2014 INDIA'S 40% home's only have electricity, bathroom facility & gas connection but in the year of 2019 INDIA'S 90 %of homes have gas connection, bathroom&electricity under NARENDHRA MODI ; The next 10 year's the world is going to see the economic boom of INDIA & where other countries are going under economic slow down
India has economic vision for development and productivity. Corruption in India does exist like other countries including America .
We don't care about what others think. Consensus is not important when my fellow Indians need basic necessities. We are a part of new aggressive India, that has emerged with aggression.Indians will never forget the critical help that Russia and Israel has given us in times of crisis. We are not at all competing with anyone but are passionate to build our own identity at a fast pace. Remember, our knowledge base of culture and concepts are the oldest. Indians are resilient and will never give up the passion to grow.
43.20 its amezing to know

Thank you for your insights.
The current laws in India cannot encourage India's massive manufacturing.
Good informative discussions. Very knowledgeable and analytical ladies.
G-7 members extended invitation for India to become the 8th member this year. But India will never join because it will upset Russia🙂
We know the concept of balance unlike some neighbours✌️😉
Well as much as I want to believe whatever Alyssa Ayres said about India, my exuberance is tempered by all the ills which my beloved homeland is struggling with. To enlist a few of these are Education (Most are not capable to participate in 21st Century Economy), Malnutrition (large part of population is suffering from it), Sanitation (Significant number of people still do not access to), Clean Drinking Water (Large parts of Indians do not have access to), Healthcare (People have no credible access to Healthcare services).
At the same time, Below is also true:
1. Thriving Software Industry (Although at the bottom end of the value chain)
2. Growing Startup ecosystem (Currently part of top 10)
I would give him that
Dr. Manmohan is the best economist. He is the reason India survived the Great Recession period
It was not Manmohan but P V Narsimha Rao. Congress never gave credit to the real heroes
The main reason India does not support China's BRI is because it's main part , China - Pakistan Economic Corridor ( CPEC ) , Crosses through Pakistan occupied Kashmir. She forgot to mention it or maybe she doesn't aware about it.
Very Well. Good luck to you.
Greatly detailed discussion.
Modi hain to mumkin hain :)
Within 20-30 years India will be the 2nd economy in the world next to China and militarily it is already a power and within a decade a major power neck to neck to China.
It emerged in a little time from a struggling country to a major power.
Das Saheb you are on the dot.
India time to be superpower and i have been waiting for 30 years and every few years, experts add another 1 decades to become superpower. Guess, it is marketing & political gimmick.
Ok before it was suposed to be supper power by 2020 now it is next 20-30 years.
USA will be the overwhelming economic and military power for the next century not even china can come close not to mention india.
Obviously you haven't been to China to understand how far behind India is.
@@gabooadriana7447 India surpassed china as the fastest growing major economy and will continue to do so in the years to come it may not surpass China but it will surpass every other country in the decades to come
Is it?

India hasn't started jogging yet let alone running, we are only walking now, 6-7% gdp growth is actually the least that we can acheive now... hope we do better 10-12% is the need of the hour
Us started as human liberty and democracy protector and ending up making more enemies
Indian have independent mind n have tremendous capacity to absorb all evil eliminates...Indians r teacher of world in every aspects of life (political, technology, literature, economy, nature n univers) we have reach history, hertage, and understanding...American can try to understand India but it is very very difficult...we never cover up bad thing happening in our society like many other country...The writer describes that Indians are hungry for secured job....yes its true...people here r primarily responsible for family n they see their future with family...thus, insecured job like western model of society not welcoming for Indians...
India is Land of Intelligent...Chanakya is born here...Spelling bee champions are Indian...Indian ISRO are the best and reach Mars.
Narasimha Rao told in 1995 that give me 5 more years, I will see that India takes off
I hate this kind of conclusion. We are still under colonial mindset, once we get out of that then we will be one of the leading country of the world
Shut the fuck up bitch!! are you crazy? Who writes shit this long?
👍👍👍
I believe the minorities of india should be protected and given confidence and opportunity to take part and contribute to the Indian economy for further growth for the future. There are a small percentage of Muslims that are millitant in thinking and are anti national. However, I believe the majority of Muslims are law abiding citizens in india and need to be encouraged to take full part in the indian economy . Neither should the overall Indian population surpress the minorities. If someone does something wrong , then irregardless of their religion, ethnicity or from which state he or she is from, should be made accountable.
America leadership and business leadership and expertise ignored India since 1947 despite having large opportunities there in India. Sellers has to reach the consumer with benefits, advantages and opportunities and simplifying the procedures and regulations for better trade.
It shows *4 comments.* Why can't I read anything?
Am I the only one who thinks she looks like the girl Harry Potter married (Ron's Sister)?

Well regarding the UN security membership for a perfectly democratic country that has 1/6th of the population and 6th largest economy of the work only blind or blinded people can ignore us.... But the time is here when you will need this country to save you all money n grace from the forces of your allies.... It's only time.
Alyssa Ayres dont dare come to india, India is on to guys like you - CNN, ABC, MSNBC, BBC breed- biased and fake anti india news monger

The CFR is utterly nefarious.
India can get richer but if Income inequality keeps growing there will still be the largest pool of miserably power people `living' in India!
Surprising how badly US ignores India. All talk no action. Time will tell.
This lady is nice but she has not know the real history of the Earth. Maybe she can answer why Industrialization or Industry is not called Englandization? Why is it that you can not spell Industy without Indus?
I just hope that India can control its epigenetic obligation to destroy you know who.
India was always a dharmic living cultured country...their fall happens when their federation of kingly states began their infighting strife making....
India political leadership who were instrumental in getting independence tried policy of non alignment in divided world. Advanced western countries an America did not take much interests in India and its development and trade as America was preoccupied with global issues.
Trump: Just buy more weapons from us. I need this boost to our economy for my re-election.
