Thats why WAP 7 rocks and is the able replacement of WAP 4.. and WAP5 is just a unicorn that will fade in another decade from WAP 7 is for the longest run like WAP 4 The current king of passenger Locos is the WAP 7.. WAP 5 is its deputy and not more .. :)
I travelled in Gatimaan from Agra to Delhi on 13th August. I planned whole delhi and Agra trip as per this train schedule, as i wanted to badly travel by this train. Travel was wonderful experience. My coach was C8 (next to engine - EOG). In mid trip while cruising at 160+ there was loud screeching sound below coach and whole coach was shaking. Everyone was shocked and scared. Looked like it hit cow or buffalo. Yet train didn't slow down a bit.

I have answers for your questions in the video. • Tamilnadu and GT express are slower than gatimaan. Yes, because the operational speeed is less (120-130kmph) in North side. Particularly GT has more stops, hence it is slower. • WAP-5 and WAP-7 are almost similar. Both are powered by 3-phase motors, have same throttle system. The differences are the traction motors (WAP-7 has six motors ABB 6fra with 850 KW and WAP-5 has four motors ABB 6fxa with 1150 KW), and respective axle (6 for WAP-7 and 4 for WAP-5) and gear ratio. WAP-7 is heavier (around 115 tonnes) compared to WAP-5 (around 78 tonnes). WAP-5 can haul medium loads at very high speed(160). WAP-7 can haul heavy loads at high speed(130). Due to lesser no of motors and lesser no of axles WAP-5 fails to maintain speed in gradients while hauling heavy loads. • Bhopal shatabdi max speed is 150 (as far as I know) hence it is little late than gatimaan. Now WAP-7 HS variant is built by reducing per axle weight and gear ratio (from 72:20 to 70:22- less the difference between these two numbers means more speed, but initially needs more torque at axle too , means pulling capacity reduces). It is intended for 160kmph hauling. • Concept behind Vande Bharat express is nothing but similar to our local EMU trains. Distributed tractive power sources (engine) improves acceleration, smooth travelling and axle over load. Acceleration of Vande Bharat express will be better. • Railways offers slack timing concept for every train just before it's destination. That is it allows more time for the train to reach from last before station to it's destination to compensate for track clearing and reduce delays if train is delayed. In Tamilnadu, for south trains to Chennai egmore, has stoppage at T.Nagar, just few km from destination. A time of around 45 mins to 1 hour is given. Finally nice video. Thank you ☺

It's all with the gear ratios and little bit difference in power, wap 5 was made for quick acceleration but struggles at pulling more than 12 bogies, wap 7 is the modified version of wag 9 from the goods locomotives, mainly the gear ratios were modified to give better acceleration for the passenger trains, wap 7 can easily maintain 140kmph with 20 bogies, which wap 5 can't do. You can why wap 5 was developed, when wap 7 is there, wap 5 is mainly for short range, short length Trains, with high speed. But point is with the Indian railway system as of now, there is very little scope for high speeds due to many reason, like traffic, single line, no high speed Tracks etc, that's why wap 5 is not found in every shatabdis, for eg Chennai coimbatore shatabdi is pulled by a wap 7 and still it's able to do it in 6hrs, imagine what a wap 5 can do with proper infrastructure
