Another great Bag made specifically for the SD633 is the Porta-Brace Sound Devices Bag. It is extremely small. Yet, holds everything I need. Easy access to all connectors on all sides. Battery below access and see through cover to work with all controls during rain/snow, etc. very much like the Orca 30. But, even smaller. Just another Bag to think about.
+Curtis Judd Audio Thanks for discussing the polar pattern questions. I have always been fascinated by the physics behind cancellation that manufacturers implement in the design of microphones. Another style is the mid-side configuring of mics. The thought of being able to manipulate the polar pattern characteristics of a recording after the tracks are laid down. Thanks again for your very informative sessions.
Curtis, I have a lot to learn. I read a little about the MS microphone setup and was impressed by the fact that you could use the two recordings to manipulate the pickup after the recording.
Hi Curtis, Just wanted to say thanks for putting out these really objective and informative videos. I was stuck in a never ending research hole trying to pick the best audio recorder. After watching a few of your videos I changed the search to.. the best audio recorder, for me. Ended up with the mixpre6. Just wondered of you knew a bag that this would work well in for field use. Not a video production guy, just nature/ambient recording. Was looking at the or-28 but a reviewer on B&H mentioned the mix pre6 with cables attached doesn't really work. Perhaps a softer less structured bag would suit better? Really enjoy your channel. Thanks!
Hi Peter, Thanks! I haven't used it, but I would look at the K-tek Stingray bag: bhpho.to/2ImZ4BR The reviews are mixed but for those that gave it a lower rating, they weren't clear on which MixPre they were using when complaining about size and fit (i.e., were they using the MixPre-10T?)
Hola Peter. Saludos. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1445331-REG/orca_or_270_audio_bag_for_mix_pre.html?sts=pi&pim=Y
Hi Mark, I use the Orca bags. The Orca OR-27 is worth a look: bhpho.to/2y7avZF And others prefer the K-tek Stingray bags. This is their MixPro bag made for small mixers like the MixPre-6: bhpho.to/2ImZ4BR Full disclosure - these links are affiliate links. As an affiliate, I earn from qualifying purchases.
I’m looking for a good bag for the mixpre 10t...so far up between ktek junior (but not sure Sony l battery back fits well), orca 30 looks like it makes accessing the side knob difficult and isn’t deep enough to allow the L battery adapter to fit too well. Any thoughts? Thank you!
The 633 has a couple of encoder knobs and they're both on the front which I prefer. The Orco OR-30 is brilliant for the 633, less so for the 10T because the encoder is nearly impossible to access. I'd be interested to try the K-Tek bag to see if it works better for the 10T.
Thank you, that's what I was worried about with Orca. I have the KSTGS - K-Tek Stingray Small for my Zaxcom Maxx and its great, so was looking to see other options for the mixpre 10t, but looks like may just get the same one. I have their Sony L mount adapter which mounts the batteries awkwardly so not sure how that would effect the fit in a smaller KTEK bag like the junior...
It seems to be very popular for the budget minded. I like mine, but the sensitivity in my office/studio is a huge problem. I've found that for recording it helps to turn the gain on the mic way down, get up close to the mic, and bring the volume up at the other end with the recording software. Eventually, I'll get a decent dynamic microphone to take its place.

Thank you for the question Gary. It sounds like maybe we need to have you come on and talk about this in more detail! :)

Hey Curtis, I am thinking of getting a sound device mix pre 6 ll. Which bag do you think is best for the size mixer?

Doesn’t the 633 have a side encoder knob like the mixpre 10t? If so does the orca block access to it?

Good luck, curious to hear how it goes.
Blue Yeti has 3 capsules 4 pickup patterns. About $120
Thanks Art, I wasn't aware that the Yeti had multiple pickup patterns. That's pretty amazing for a mic in that price range.

+Art Johnson I didn't realise that the Blue Yeti had those options. I will have a look at them.
