This sermon has blessed me so much. I asked God for the gift of tongues for about 2 years. At the end of watching this, I felt the Spirit upon me, giving me utterance. It was so heavy. I went on for about an hour. I felt healing from past hurts taking place in me. I warred over territories and decreed several things in the Spirit. It was so powerful and I am grateful to God that He would even use me as His vessel. Stretch your faith and speak as He gives you utterance.

Smile, PIT is so easy that is why most people after learning how to PIT quit. They don't suddenly see the fruit so they feel it is fruitless. Look at PIT as a lifestyle like eating or grooming oneself, do not look at PIT legalistically, if one does it becomes drudgery, and a persons soul will rebel against PIT. The goodness God has placed within this gift cannot be held back so eventually as the blessing overtakes you, A person will then realize it is the fruit of PIT. This in turn will add strength to continue. I often see folks struggle in life to get a blessing from God, I could help then get on this road but it is up to the individual to believe and stay on the road until they see results for themselves. This is the fulfillment of the passage of scripture where Jesus himself was giving the admonition to his very own followers to take His yoke upon themselves and describes the benefits thereof because the load is light. I wish I could give every Christian a revelation of PIT. Shalome

@@elizabethbrown8833 Page 2 by request, 10/ 18/ 2020 SELAH, Praying in tongues is just as supernatural as raising the dead, Selah! When one chooses to polish his gift to the maximum then the operation of that gift through that person becomes undeniably supernatural. The polished gift when in operation will render the fruit of its unique operation. If you are an evangelist and operate in the gift of working miracles when that gift is polished to its utmost then raising the dead becomes normal for that person. Others look on with awe and would desire to duplicate his work, but without the months and years, this person has dedicated to developing his gift this would be impossible under normal conditions. When a person has developed the gift of praying in tongues to a highly supernatural level then all the fruits of that gift begin to manifest around the person who has given himself over to the work of the Lord, using this gift that is PIT. We have only begun to scratch the surface to find out what all fruit praying in tongues will produce, some of the things we do know are these, it is the will of God for believers to pray in tongues, it is supernatural, it does produce recognizable fruit. Some of that fruit is the heart of Jesus manifested through that believer, prosperity in the natural realm, and not least but men and women are drawn to that person because of the Christ in him. We also know that PIT is a revelation gift it reveals the heart of the father to that individual. The New Testament is a part of the heart of God, so by PIT the New Testament becomes plainly understood. PIT is also a gift that allows Holy Ghost to roll out the red carpet ahead of you months and years in advance. Holy Ghost is then allowed to work out the details of every situation one at a time as you continue in this type of prayer. The believer that excels in PIT then walks in a glorious realm unknown to the average Christian that has not entered into this gift PIT, ( This is available to every believer if they ask and desire to press into God). Jesus never struggled with the day to day situations of life, Jesus always had more than enough, In the spiritual side of his life Jesus had many friends and families that he ministered to with signs, wonders, and miracles, this was normal life for Jesus remember he was our example and we are told to follow him in his examples of, easy yoke and light burdens. When we are born again the heart of Jesus comes into our new spirit, whereby we cry Abba father, which is to say heavenly father I now know that you are my daddy and my provider. This revelation brings peace and grace. It also brings a revelation that there is more from Abba for us to receive, This brings about a pang of hunger to know and enter into the things of God. One of those things is to be baptized in Holy Ghost, for a while we are satisfied with that experience, but then we realize there is more, we then by the leadership of Holy Ghost noticed the gifts of the spirit so we desire to excel in those gifts also. More hunger is given to us, Jesus said blessed are those that hunger for they shall be filled. Holy Ghost knowing and understanding this attempts to lead us to the eighth office that Jesus placed in the Church for every believer, which office is the Diversities of Tongues, I have used the term PIT to describe this office many times. Jesus the head of the church appoints different individuals to operate in this office, although all are led to PIT after they receive him (Holy Ghost), if that is you then Holy Ghost will give you a supernatural desire and craving to polish PIT, which overflows in this office and your ability to operate in it to the utmost. Holy Ghost will lead you into your prayer closet many times each day desiring that you pray in tongues rather than your native language, Holy Ghost is most effective when he is furnishing the prayer, that father will say yes to every time, All of the promises of God are Yea and Amen in Christ Jesus. Allowing Holy Ghost to pray in tongues as a way of life is giving God inside you the right to use your authority to bring God’s best into this earth realm and your life too so that you have an abundance to minister to others both in the natural realm (money and other goods) and in the spiritual realm, which are the nine gifts of the born-again spirit.
I hope this helps you to understand your inward desire to fulfill the calling of the office, Diversity of Tongues, which is the will of God concerning you. Shalom!
Yes, thanks be to God I can. Now the teacher (Holy Ghost) in the classroom is very patient after we are born again, the teacher waits for his student to appear in the classroom the student which is the newly born again child of God does appear in the classroom and began to make little sounds and little emotional signs to the teacher from the day he is born again. This must excite Holy Ghost to know he has a new student appearing in the classroom. This new student is listening to the Holy Ghost from the time he is born again until he begins to develop words that he hears from the teacher. These words originate from the Holy Ghost and are given directly to this newborn spirit the spirit and turn sends them up to the soul he should realm and they enter into the mind as syllables and sounds that cannot be interpreted into his native language at this time. The sounds and syllables then turn into words and sentences as the exercise of this process is developed. The labor of spending time in the classroom is the responsibility of the student. How does a student show up in the classroom and how does he discipline himself to hear the teacher one might ask. The student shows up in the classroom by setting time aside for the process of speaking in tongues. These tongues are uttered by the student out loud. They are voiced out of the mouth and can be spoken softly or in a plainly understood volume. At first, these sounds will sound like gibberish to the new believer as time goes by the gibberish will turn into syllables of gibberish. As the language is beginning to take shape from the teacher to the student through the mind and out of the mouth a language of unknown interpretation is now taking shape and will be spoken by the believer. This may take days or weeks or in a few cases months to fully develop to the point where the student can sit down and immediately opened his mouth speaking in an unknown language that is being given to him by Holy Ghost for him to speak forth.

NOTHING HE SAID IS WRITTEN IN GOD'S WORD? No verse in God's word does it say you create your own personal babel language and chant it when you pray or shout it out at people when preaching. NOT ONE VERSE! HE told you that is what you should do, NOT God's word. God is not the author of confusion, SATAN IS! Satan loves BABEL and loves it when Christians waste hours and hours dishing out BABEL that does NO ONE any good.

This one of the finest explanations for seeking and using the gift more often . It is very inspiring. It is not easy to minister this gift most times BUT I was truly impressed with the Godly instructions given in the last 5 minutes of the video.
We know that the Holy Spirit or Jesus Himself is the giver of the gift . I personally like to think about the Word " Gift". If a gift is given to me do I have the right to give it away or minister my own Words or lanuage to another...I'm happy to see this confirmed !

For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. 1 Corinthians 14:2. This verse should settle all debates and arguments on this comment platform. Too much arguments, too much reasoning attempts: one main thing that God hates about imans, always trying to reason; this they fail to enter His rest. Speaking in tongues is a form of God’s rest for prayer language, no distraction, no reasoning in the mind because the mind is at rest. Period!! That settles the matter.

The reason why some people has been doing wrong things is because of the mistranslated verse of the New Living Translation in 1 Corinthians 14:14
    New Living Translation
For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, BUT I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM SAYING. - 1 Corinthians 14:14
Let us read the New King James Version instead:
    New King James Version
13Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. 14For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. 16Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say?17For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified. - 1 Corinthians 14:13-17
PROPER WAY - Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray THAT HE MAY INTERPRET. (verse 13)
PROBLEM IF WE DO NOT DO THE PROPER WAY - For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is UNFRUITFUL. (verse 14)
SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM - What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the UNDERSTANDING. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the UNDERSTANDING. (verse 15)
CONSEQUENCE IF WE DO NOT DO THE SOLUTION - Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, SINCE HE DOES NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU SAY? 17For you indeed give thanks well, BUT THE OTHER IS NOT EDIFIED. (verse 16)
The reason why understanding is UNFRUITFUL is because nobody can say AMEN. And the reason why nobody can say AMEN is because they do not understand the language spoken. That is why Paul gave us a solution to this problem in verse 15. OTHERWISE, nobody can say AMEN.
    .

      Unless he is talking and praising God in " tongues".Those Paul was speaking to had already been saved according to Acts 2:38 so to state to them what i just posted would have been to tell them something they already knew. In the verses you posted he was speaking about the gift of speaking in " tongues" which is to be translated by a believer that has the gift of interpretation.     Tim it's very clear the Holy Spirit is communicating via various authors , including Jesus himself that His ppl should speak in Tongues and pray in tongues. The bible contains history, but we are disingenuous with the Word, particularly the NT if we think it was written to inform us of the church in "past" times, and don't link it to the present church. The word of God is useful for correction, exhortation & rebuke. Read 2Tim 3:16, it doesn't say as a historical record of things in the churches past. Is tongues for everyone? No it's for believers, right out of Jesus mouth, the Word is clear: Mark 16:17 "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;

The gift of tongues is not and never has been some mystical unknown language. The apostles received the power to speak KNOWN foreign languages in order to reach the diverse people that were their audience. It had a definite purpose and wasn’t anything near what some believers have opened themselves to today. Babbling incoherently (called glossolalia) was common in ancient pagan religions and is not truly of the Spirit. Anyone who has the gift today is empowered by the Spirit to speak a spoken foreign language in order to witness to those otherwise they couldn’t due to a language barrier. The devil is wearing Christian garb today folks. Stay rooted in the Word

In this video, what would be the name of the language, and from what region on earth does the language "hail" from?

    • @waynejeez5620
      @waynejeez5620 4 роки тому

@@blessedhighlyfavorde it's NOT about the "subject matter". It's about "order". God has ALREADY established the order in which we are to live. Jesus said, "I AM the Light of the world; he that FOLLOWS ME, shall NOT walk in darkness, but shall have the Light of life" (John 8:12). The Lord shows us how easily we go astray. In Genesis 2:16-17, God gave Adam a commandment, NOT to eat a particular fruit. God also warned Adam of the consequence if Adam DID eat it. Next, you see the "serpent" talking to Eve. The serpent "mentioned" God, and the next thing you see is Adam and Eve eating the fruit they were told NOT to eat (Genesis 3:1-6). God then "rebuked" all three of them. When someone is dabbling in spiritual matters, and are NOT starting with the order God has ALREADY established, the Lord "rebukes it". Peter cut off Malchus' ear; Jesus healed Malchus' ear. Humans go by how they feel, and they "control" people and things. God establishes order for us to give us rest (Matthew 11:28-30). The "subject matter DOESN'T matter with God".

God does EVERYTHING in His own order, NOT ours. In Acts 2, "tongues" means "languages". When the "gift of languages" was "given" (not taught), people from neighboring regions could hear "the wonderful works of God" in their own native language. In I Corinthians 14, in the King James Version, the word "unknown" is "italicized", letting us know that word was NOT in the original manuscript. The languages were KNOWN; the "mysteries" were NOT. For those who supposedly "speak in languages" today, what are the names of the languages, and from what regions of the world do they "hail" from?

    • @robertnieten7259
      @robertnieten7259 Рік тому +1

In the original Greek ,that the new testament was written in ,our English word " tongues" is singular not plural and means, " another language" and " a language".
So for example, in Acts ch 2 when the believers recieved the Holy Spirit it actually reads. "..and they began to speak in another language..." and "..and they began to speak in a language..".
The reason that it is repeated three times that the men in the crowd inquired of each other how they were hearing what the believers were saying in their native languages is to direct our attention to the fact that the men in the crowd were Hearing what the believers were saying in their native languages, but the believers were all speaking in the same one language.
This is the first example of not only speaking in "tongues" as being the first evidence that the Holy Spirit has been recieved but a sign to unbelievers, the men in the crowd.

This comment is rather lengthy so must be presented in a few separate posts - PART 1
This post is not intended to offend anyone who practices glossolalia however, after studying this phenomenon from a linguistic and cultural point of view, there is only one viable logical conclusion that can be drawn: glossolalia (a/k/a “speaking in tongues”) is simply an advanced form of learned, subconscious word-play or free-vocalization; anyone can learn to produce it relatively easily. Glossolalia only has specific significance in a cultural or religious context where it is part of that cultural or religious belief system.
In Charismatic Christianity, “tongues” can only be interpreted as divinely inspired speech and/or its interpretation; this view comprises an integral part of its belief system. Most other Christian and non-Christian traditions look at Biblical ‘tongues’ as real language(s). The word used in the original Greek texts, ‘glossa’, refers to real language, not ecstatic utterance.
The fact of how glossolalia is actually produced and what it linguistically comprises doesn’t come into question for Charismatics. It almost really can’t; if it did, there’s really only one rational conclusion: tongues/glossolalia totally excludes any possibility of being divine in nature.
One may certainly believe him/her self to be divinely inspired to practice glossolalia, but glossolalia in and of itself is neither divine nor miraculous; it’s actually quite mundane and often times its structure in a given speaker is even quite predictable.
To quickly summarize a few facts about glossolalia:
Glossolalia will ONLY contain those phonemes (sounds) found in a speaker’s native language or any other language s/he may be familiar with or have been exposed to (either knowingly or not).
Glossolalia is governed by the SAME phonological rules that apply to the speaker’s native language(s)
In other words, if a person knows or has only ever been exposed to say English, their glossolalia will not contain any sounds, or combination of sounds, not found in English. It’s as simple as that. So for example, the sounds made by the German ü or ö will never occur in their ‘tongue’. Further, the phonological rules of their glossolalia will always conform to the same phonological rules of English.
Syllable structure is also rather unique to some degree. Glossolalia typically exhibits a very open syllable structure; that is, the syllables of a given “word” are typically Consonant (C) Vowel (V), and strings typically consist of a repetition of this structure; so something like CVCVCVCV. With the final segment of the string, there seems to be a choice of using either an open syllable or a closed one (a closed syllable has the structure CVC).
Note that where I have used ‘C’ (consonant) here, it should be understood that it could represent a single consonant, or any allowed consonant cluster. Further, it should be noted that any disallowed syllable structure (e.g. consonant clusters, diphthongs, etc.) in the speaker’s native language will also be disallowed in that speaker’s glossolalia.
Therefore, the end result being that a speaker of German’s glossolalia will never sound like a speaker of English’s or a speaker of Spanish’s glossolalia. Conversely, neither of theirs will ever sound like a German’s.
Glossolalia most closely resembles human babbling in structure. The typical syllable structure of “babble” is CVCV (i.e. open syllables no matter what your native language may favor).
Many will argue that small children will/can also “speak in tongues”. Small children brought up in this religious tradition can and do learn to produce glossolalia from an early age. In some respects, it’s actually easier for them as they are still in the process of playing with language and sounds. Because of this, the progression to full glossolalia is not a difficult one. In addition, they’ve been listening to it and have grown up in the tradition since birth - they’re simply imitating (and ultimately learning) what they’re seeing and hearing all around them. More importantly, they are learning that it’s okay to play with sounds and produce strings of speech by playing with those sounds (albeit subconsciously). The religious significance is also usually taught from day one, so the phenomenon is immediately associated with a religious context. They are taught from a young age that there is something ‘special” about what they are doing. There’s no mystery here as to how/why small children can exhibit glossolalia.
Adults new to the phenomenon will learn it virtually the same way; by observation, repetition, imitation, positive reinforcement and encouragement. Once a person learns the methodology behind it, glossolalia can be done at will in any setting; church, sitting in a chair at home, wherever. It does not need to first present itself in a church setting. Initial presentation can be virtually anywhere. There’s no mystery here either; it is learned by exposure to the environment or cultural/religious setting in which it occurs, and either consciously or subconsciously imitating what is occurring. Very often this is done by imitating the most prominent ‘speaker’ (the "guide" as some would call it).
In addition, there even exist many “how to/instructional” type videos on UA-cam by which an aspirant can ‘learn to speak in tongues’. The existence of such videos are clearly indicative of glossolalia being a learned behavior. The videos I have seen are very similar - they teach one how to enter a somewhat meditative state which allows your mind to simply play with sounds.
Some people will refer to a study done by the University of Pennsylvania on the phenomenon of glossolalia. The study determined that when a person exhibits glossolalia, the language producing areas of the brain are not engaged; i.e. ‘tongues’ do not originate in the speech center of the brain. This argument has been used to support its supposed divine origins. After reading the study, I would argue the results are exactly as what one would expect; it stands to reason the brain’s language producing center is not really being engaged simply because glossolalia is not language. It’s just free vocalization -playing with sounds.
The other issue with glossolalia which seems to strongly diminish its validity as something divine in nature is the supposed interpretation of a given string or strings. The results of studies done were very non-inspiring: Yes, there are people who can supposedly interpret a glossolalic string; however, if one were to record that string and play it to ten different people who are said to have the ability to interpret; you essentially get ten totally different answers. Typically, all interpretations are very general, non-specific, and often deal with known issues/situations in a particular congregation/church, or are just very generic praise type phrases/messages. No two ‘interpretations’ of a given string of glossolalia are ever the same. They may on occasion be very similar, but given the generality of the subject matter of the interpretations, that would inevitably be expected.
Glossolalia, by the way, is by no means exclusive to Christianity - many cultures employ glossolalia as part of their cultural tradition; from Siberia, to Borneo, to Africa, to Native America. It is all produced the exact same way, regardless of cultural or religious differences. In all of these other traditions, glossolalia is regarded for what it really is; simply a tool (like chanting, or meditation) to connect to the divine or spirit world.
It is important to keep in mind that for these people who are not Christians and speak in tongues (i.e. practice glossolalia as a part of their belief systems), they are speaking and producing it the EXACT same way Charismatic Christians are - it can’t be stressed enough that there is absolutely ZERO difference between “theirs” and “yours”. To think that because you’re Christian and they are not, that what they are doing is somehow “Satanic” in nature (even though you’re both doing the exact same thing in the exact same way), is utter nonsense and religiocentric in the absolute extreme.

Speaking in tongues is a manifestation of the Spirit of God and it can not be done by natural human ability alone. It is the Holy Spirit that gives the utterance, which is why man's carnal teachings which are contrary to the scriptures can not produce speaking in tongues. Only faith which comes through the hearing of the word of God will produce the manifestations of the spirit, through love. When we love God and keep his commandments (see I Cor 12-14) it is then, through faith, that we may receive and do what the natural man can not produce. Natural man's attempts to produce speaking in tongues is proof enough that speaking in tongues is supernatural, for tongues will flow from a born again believer in Jesus, just as Jesus said, like rivers of living water, and natural man's attempts out of the flesh will fail, and will not flow, nor will it even sound like a language. The best counterfeit that can be produced is by memorizing something that one has heard from another language, and perhaps embellish it a bit, commit it to memory and say the same few lines over and over again, producing a very poor counterfeit to the genuine.

Speaking in tongues (T-speech), or glossolalia (a term used to encompass not only Christian ‘tongues’, but all other cultural and belief traditions that practice the same thing) is non-cognitive non-language utterance; free vocalization. It simply fails as language by any criteria used to define language.
There is nothing you’re doing with respect to tongues that cannot be explained in natural terms. The fact that the brain’s language producing centers are not overly engaged when a person is producing tongues (as evidenced by a study done at the University of PA by using SPECT imaging), further evidences that glossolalia/tongues is simply not language but rather free vocalization.
Nowhere does the Bible indicate that “tongues” do not sound like language. All references to “tongues” in the Bible refer either to the physical organ in the mouth or to real languages (perhaps not understood by those listening - the “hearers”, but always understood by the speaker.
The reason tongues seem to “flow” from the speaker is due to the overly simplified syllable and sound (phonetic) structure of glossolalia. Modern tongues mimic language but upon closer examination, they are only a façade of language - The only reason it sounds like a language is that you want it to sound like a language. But it’s not. There is simply no language being produced.
I agree that there’s a good amount of t-speech where the speaker is clearly “faking it” - it is sometimes obvious that a conscious effort is being made to say something……anything, as long as it isn’t English.
I do not doubt the sincerity or faith of those that produce t-speech, but it simply is not language by any definition.

Lots of people have different definitions for things than the Bible has. The Bible describes speaking in tongues, teaches us what it is and what it is not. It is not of the world. It is a diving gift of God's grace, not something anyone can do by human ability alone. This is only done by the working of the Holy Spirit of God. Without the Spirit of God, it can not be done.

    PART 2
    Pentecost -
What supposedly happened at Pentecost is NOT glossolalia at all; it’s called xenoglossia - the ability to speak in a LIVING language the speaker has in no way, shape or form ever been exposed to.
One can however consider two other possibilities:
It is possible the Pentecost narrative has a less dramatic reality and was enhanced, as stories often are, long before ever being committed to writing.
Yes, there were Jews from all over gathered in Jerusalem, but most were from the Mediterranean basin, a very heavily Hellenized area - virtually everyone would have familiarity with Koine Greek in various degrees; it was the ‘English’ of its day. It is quite possible it was simply just the apostles preaching to the people in Koine Greek and the story was simply enhanced to how we have it recorded today (people hearing them in their local native languages). The true miracle here may have simply been the apostles finding the courage to go out and preach; these were people supposedly literally in fear of their lives behind locked doors after the execution of their leader, Jesus. The gift of the spirit was the courage for them to overcome this fear. The language used was simply Greek - understood in various degrees by virtually everyone in the Greco-Roman world. See part 4 regarding how Jews regarded praising and praying to “their” God in a language other than Hebrew.
It has also been argued by some that it was not a miracle of speaking so much as one of hearing - these people HEARD them in their various native languages.
The fact is, is that there are no known solid, provable cases of xenoglossia - upon closer and intense examination, the better known cases have proven not to be true examples of xenoglossia as all speakers were at some time or another exposed to the target language they were exhibiting.
Unfortunately most examples one hears of in the Charismatic Christian community are not backed by any details or specifics - it amounts to essentially just general hearsay (which, in a way is kind of too bad - a few well documented cases to study would be great).
It is noted, however, that in Charismatic circles, Hebrew and/or Aramaic seem to be THE “go to” language(s) for supposed instances of xenoglossia. Such instances are always accompanied by a story of how/where it occurred. At its core, it is always the same underlying story. For all intents and purposes, “the story” has been built up and developed over the past several years to almost urban legend status amongst the ‘tongue speaking community. This underlying core story can be summarized as follows: an individual (usually a preacher) is speaking in tongues to a crowd. In the crowd there always (very conveniently) seems to be this one Jewish guy (or lady) who, of course, recognizes the ‘tongue’ as Hebrew/Aramaic and comments to the pastor afterwards.
I can’t tell you how many versions and variations of this same story I’ve heard.
The story is problematic and rather dubious on several levels: Why a person of the Jewish faith (presumably a practicing Jew) would be found attending a Charismatic Christian meeting/service in the first place just begs a slew of questions. Most practicing Jews, unless from Israel and speak Modern Hebrew as their native or second language, typically only have a cursory knowledge of Biblical Hebrew and even less Aramaic. Hebrew and Aramaic are only used in prayers which are usually learned by rote; the same way pre Vatican II Catholics learned common prayers in Latin. Many Jews I personally know can read Hebrew (they learnt to do so for their bar/bat mitzvahs), but have no clue what they’re reading/saying.
These ‘tongues coming out as Hebrew’ stories are rather sketchy at best. It is interesting to note that it’s never a more common language like German, French, or Spanish that’s used as the example for xenoglossia; it always seems to be some more obscure, lesser known (i.e. more unverifiable by multiple speakers) language.
If such claims are to ever be taken seriously, they need to be well documented, but I’m not sure the nature of glossolalia/xenoglossia would allow for a controlled study as the speaker would need to produce the language more or less on the spot.
As far as people quoting Corinthians as support of Christian glossolalia - as one writer put it….
“1 Cor.12-14 - This passage sequence seems to be the general ‘go to’ for evidencing glossolalia, however, Paul is referring to real normal human languages here, not glossolalia. Essentially he is simply saying that if a person prays in a language (real language native to that person) and no one else in the general audience understands that language, then it does no good to the people listening as no one can understand what is being said except God. Therefore, if a person were to do that, what s/he is saying should be translated into the vernacular so that all may understand and benefit. There are a number of analyses done on this passage in comparing the words used for ‘language/tongues’ (and words added to the passage in subsequent translations) in which the conclusion of all of them is that it is real normal human languages being discussed here. To paraphrase a bit from an article written about ‘tongues’ in Paul’s letter: “Paul is not a proponent of speech that is not understandable (1 Cor. 14:9) and in 1 Cor.14:10 states that no language is without meaning. Glossolalia does not fit his definition of language. He insists that whenever foreign languages are spoken in prayer, they should be translated. Throughout the whole, he is talking about real languages with real meaning. Paul’s overriding message throughout this whole chapter is that everything done in the public worship service is supposed to be edifying to the hearers. That is his key point. He is calling for intelligibility. He is appealing for clarity. When we say something in public worship, the people in the congregation need to understand the message.” Further, to a Jew, there was only one language with which to pray to God in; Hebrew, the liturgical language of the Jewish faith - already a dead language in Paul’s time as Jews in what is now Israel spoke Aramaic. Jews spoke whatever language was spoken in the land where they lived and perhaps also spoke some Greek as well as Latin, but when they went to Temple, Hebrew was the language they prayed in as it was deemed the language of God and his people. “Tongues” (i.e. other languages, particularly Gentile languages most of which were completely unknown to most Jews living what is now Israel), the author states, changed all that. “For the first time ever, inspired truth was revealed by God in languages other than Hebrew. This in and of itself was a remarkable sign (some would say a miraculous sign), not only to the unbelieving Gentile hearers, but also to the unbelieving Jews. For the unbelieving Jews, it was a sign of judgement to come (Isaiah 28:11). Paul paraphrases that verse in 1 Cor. 14:21, just before saying that ‘tongues’ (foreign languages) are a sign to unbelievers. His primary meaning, then, is that tongues are a sign of judgment against the unbelieving Israelites and a token of divine grace to the Gentile unbelievers who hear the message in their own tongues/languages. So again we see that the gift of tongues was God’s declaration that the wall of partition had been broken down. Although the oracles of God had once been committed to the Jewish race alone (in Hebrew), now the message about God’s wonderful works would extend to every nation, people, and tribe. That was the primary significance of the “gift of tongues”; simply God’s message being delivered to Gentiles in their own languages. The phenomenon of glossolalia was never intended here; a pseudo-language that no one, usually including even the speaker, understood. “

@ Steph Allan. Praise God for you shedding light to this debate to bring it to a close (I hope). For anyone who speaks in a tongue[a] does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. 1 Cor. 14:2.

Insanity and foolishness. Teaching people how to "speak in tounges" is pure manipulation of biblically illiterate people.

You're absolutely right. Insanity and foolishness. Teaching people how to "speak in tounges" is pure manipulation of biblically illiterate people.
